I love how their songs start slow and kind of funky, then they gain this energy and you get so wrapped up until your tumbling along with them and you feel the beat of the song in the racing of you heart.
The writing on this song is epic. To me, it's one of the greatest underrated pieces of music in decades. The lyrics are genius because they convey such a deep story in such cleverly simple descriptions. It keeps building to the end with this verbal crescendo- turning the listener back to that moment in their lives when love was young and passion was invincible. That despite regrets and great trial, it's the "cadence" from loves greatest moments that carry us on; even when we find ourselves in a land where the "bell don't ring and the sky don't snow." Epic! Epic, I say! Ha!
there is so much meaning in this song. Brandon wrote this song about his mother and if you really look at all the words each one is carefully thought out with a message every line. Touches you where you can feel it.
Anyone who appreciates romance as a whole will spill rivers of tears over this song. If anyone has loved strongly and deeply, they will understand the underlying emotions But also, the narrative about forgiveness and the unknown has one questioning when (if they are young) such a story will happen to them Helps everyone connect
One of my favorite killers songs, and has been since I was 9 years old when day and age first came out. Saw them play it live when I was 15 years old and then when I was 17, it was amazing. Just hauntingly beautiful and poetic lyrics.
You should listen to the song "Moonriver" from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I think that line is meant to capture the same feelings one gets from the original movie scene.
“Is there still magic in the midnight sun, or did you leave it back in 61, in the cadence of the young man’s eyes” - these lyrics are pure magic! Well the entire song is.
There have only been a few moments in my life when I instantly hear a song lyric and it’s so beautiful it makes me cry. “She said she always knew he’d come around” was definitely one of those. One of the greatest song ever.
I saw them here in Philly last year. It was the last stop on their tour. They were incredible! Played all the hits. 8 or 9 minute versions of their most popular songs. A couple covers. Best live performance I've ever been to.
Yes this song is about Brandon's parent's and his mother Jean getting brain cancer. Also about his father realizing about the Mormon faith. He moved his family from Las Vegas to Utah. So Brandon was introduced to his faith in God during his years in Utah. The great divide is when Brandon came back to Las Vegas. This is directly from Brandon's uncle. Jean's brother. He's my good friend. He is very proud of his nephew Brandon!!🤗👏❤
TeekyDeeky Sleeky Yes which I can understand and agree with but its fact that modern standard in music has dropped significantly with marketing and image becoming more important rather than the quality or creativity of the music.
Just checking in on a total random RUclips stranger 10 years after a comment. How’s the decade treated you? I hope you’re still indie rock n rolling. 😊
I believe he wrote this song for his mother, dying from cancer. It becomes more and more powerful as I get older and you realize there's less and less time for those dreams you have to happen. I wish we didn't get old and die. This song makes me cry every time.
Tell me why i cant get my mouse off the replay button. This song is so insporationable and magnificently beautiful.Wow. i just fell in love with again.its been a long time.
This song was dedicated to his mom after he found out she had a brain tumor, two years later she ended up dying .His music is magnificent i think Brandon flowers is a great songwriter, better than most artists today who have composers writing their stuff.
Yesterday I could finally see The Killers on stage; the experience was simply magic. I got so fucking hyped when they played A Dustland Fairytale, even tho I was the only one who knew all the lyrics 😂. Love this song so much 😍.
I love the deep symbolism in this song. Does anyone have any opinions on what it means? I have my own, but you can never be totally sure... unless the writer tells you, obviously. Great work on making the video! It's nearly perfect, and the few mistakes were small and you fixed them. :) Great work.
The lyrics are correct. In fact it's the only lyrics vid of the song on here that is right. Most say "money on a palm", and " I wouldn't dream so high" "money on a pawn" and "Out where the dreams all hide"......that's right, this video is correct. Great song Great Band Five stars for the vid. :)
@fillysunray The writer has said it is about his parents and dying mother. The kingdom is his mother, he continues with that metaphor with 'cinderella' etc The great divide is life and death, the valley is being in between the two.
This song may have a close meaning with some people. The song is about the lead singers mom passing away from cancer. There are a lot of people who can relate to that topic including myself, though my mom did not pass away from cancer, she did a crippling spinal cord tumor that had left her severally disabled. So some people may be able to have a close connection to the song. No need to condescend.
@fillysunray He said it was about his mom having cancer, and how much hewants her to survive the devil is cancer cinderella is his mom the castle is her body the kingdom is her mind/heart/spirit/whatever u want to call it thats what l think at least
Alot of people dont, but Im a big fan , I love all their stuff even Brandons solo album. I guess its just a choice of music, personally i love it but we all have our opinions.
The thing is that people complaining about modern music don't know good music. Sure you listen to the radio and say it is shit but there are great bands out there like walk the moon out there that are not mainstream
I love how their songs start slow and kind of funky, then they gain this energy and you get so wrapped up until your tumbling along with them and you feel the beat of the song in the racing of you heart.

brandon wrote the lyrics to his mother, who at the time was fighting cancer. she passed away in 2010
You're quite a talented writer yourself.
Make it a novel
inspired by his parents love as well stated by him
Reminds me of how love was when I was a young buck....wow I learned wat Brandon Flower meant.
I love how every single line in this song has its own story. There aren't any meaningless ones in here.
exakly
there is so much meaning in this song. Brandon wrote this song about his mother and if you really look at all the words each one is carefully thought out with a message every line. Touches you where you can feel it.
@ilikebacon no cinderella was his mum, she said she always knew he turned around, the he was referring to his dad
Anyone who appreciates romance as a whole will spill rivers of tears over this song.
If anyone has loved strongly and deeply, they will understand the underlying emotions
But also, the narrative about forgiveness and the unknown has one questioning when (if they are young) such a story will happen to them
Helps everyone connect

The whole song is great, and the ending is just so powerful..
"Moon River what'd you do to me?" there is just something about this line that I love
i love that line but the line stands out for me is castles in the sky stand stranded, vandalized
You should listen to the song "Moonriver" from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I think that line is meant to capture the same feelings one gets from the original movie scene.
The line is a reference to the idea that his parents may not have gotten involved without the songs effect on his mother.
Gets me every time... my Mother sang Moon River to my kids as part of their bedtime lullabies 🥰
Part of the fantasy world 🥰😁😁
“Is there still magic in the midnight sun, or did you leave it back in 61, in the cadence of the young man’s eyes” - these lyrics are pure magic! Well the entire song is.
Yes those lines in the song are about his parent's. I asked Brandon's uncle. He confirmed it for me. Love Brandon's song's!!
I seriously started crying the first time I heard this song. I love it so much.
"Is there still magic in the midnight sun, or did you leave it back in '61?"
"IN THE CADENCE OF A YOUNG MANS EYES"
"Out where the dreams all hide"
The Oddball esta musica el la escribio y la dedico a su madre que estaba muriendo de cancer , la buena chica que muere es su "Madre"
He wrote this for his mom. She died from a 2 year long battle with cancer. I think he has to be the sweetest man on earth.
I remember I only had this album on my iPod nano, and I listened to it for like 2 years without getting sick of it - still one of my favourite songs
the lyrics is so genius, leaves me a goosebump everytime
This makes me cry almost every time
Brilliant, never tire of this.
one of the most underrated songs by one of the best bands i've ever had the privilege of listening too.
I like this song because it tells a story and has meaning to it.
Love this song. Super fun and easy to play on ukulele.
One of those songs with amazing lyrics and rhythm. Holy shit it's good for the ears
Such an amazing song. "In the cadence of a young man's eyes.... Out where the dreams all hide"
This sounds so wonderfull live, The Killers always my favorite band forever
There have only been a few moments in my life when I instantly hear a song lyric and it’s so beautiful it makes me cry. “She said she always knew he’d come around” was definitely one of those. One of the greatest song ever.
i love these songs i wish i could go to a concert of the killers
my thoughts
I saw them here in Philly last year. It was the last stop on their tour. They were incredible! Played all the hits. 8 or 9 minute versions of their most popular songs. A couple covers. Best live performance I've ever been to.
I saw them three days ago! SO AMAZING everything was just perfect
Martin Szlot I saw them a month ago...and my god. You need to a concert of theirs soon.
I just went to one with the luminers

WOW that's incredible
just purchased my tickets to watch the Killers perform in Vegas wooooohooo!!
this is my favorite song by The Killers
Believe it or not, its possible to like both this AND whatever is on the radio right now
Linden Ray It is possible. But not realistic. Modern music is mostly horrendous.
Chris Martin That is the truest thing ive ever heard
InsanityProductions Don't!!! I have to put up with Radio 1 most days at work... aha.
Chris Martin Eh, different people have different tastes. There's some modern I like, some old I like.
TeekyDeeky Sleeky Yes which I can understand and agree with but its fact that modern standard in music has dropped significantly with marketing and image becoming more important rather than the quality or creativity of the music.
I have been a fan of the killers since I was in primary school and I still love them now! This band mean so much to me.. and always will.
Just checking in on a total random RUclips stranger 10 years after a comment. How’s the decade treated you? I hope you’re still indie rock n rolling. 😊
When i was really little (like three) i liked this song because it had Cinderella in it, now i love it because of the story it tells....
I had no idea how to turn the annotations off. You've changed my life :)
Nice work making sure the lyrics are up before they're sung in the song.
Love this 2020 anyone?

I believe he wrote this song for his mother, dying from cancer. It becomes more and more powerful as I get older and you realize there's less and less time for those dreams you have to happen. I wish we didn't get old and die. This song makes me cry every time.

This song was dedicated to his mom after he found out she had a brain tumor, two years later she ended up dying .His music is magnificent i think Brandon flowers is a great songwriter, better than most artists today who have composers writing their stuff.
