this song is so relatable to everyone because it has so much room for interpretation. it is definitely an artistic masterpiece in my unqualififed opinion for this feat alone
@@ONLYINOHIO-- thats like, every other song since the 60s. also not really. you can literally meet these beings. this song is both literal and interpretive.
This song is the perfect description of the day I was put in induced coma. It is such a happy version and helps me see the brightside 😎 the killers are by far the greatest band ever!
this song might even be about becoming famous. the alien abduction is a metaphor for how the paparazzi and the fans probe into all the little details of his personal life, checking his blood type etc. the public don't really care about his feelings - they don't dwell on his transmission because it isn't televised. he wishes he could just return to his old home town, but knows he never really can escape his fame. the "starmaker" is his record producer. they find musicians and make stars out of them. these are his own thoughts about his own life. so at the end of the song he says "it's all in _my_ mind" really though, there are so many possible metaphors in this song that I can't be sure. either way though, I love this song.
Im 100% sure it is. Star making (turning people into famous people), dream maker (making your dream of being special becomes true), also the alienation of life, taking a person away from reality... Great comment!
I first discovered this song while driving down a highway in the middle of nowhere at 2AM. I was freaked out by it and turned the radio off a minute in. But I looked it up later and discovered the Killers, who are now one of my favourite bands. So that's a plus.
This song reminds me of bright mornings and walking thru my old neighborhood with my mom at age 6. Everything was so new and big and interesting. I wish I was in the early 2000s again
@@kadymattox158 well i deleted my anti suicide playlist cause the songs in it just make me want to do it more now. honestly i think 2020 has probably won.
This part got me in the heart.. And you know I might have just flown too far from the floor this time cause they calling me by my name and the zipping white light beams disregarding bombs and satellites..
This song is about Brandon trying to kill himself, but failing and then getting help. "They say the Nile used to run from East to West" refers to the placememt of the veins and the way he tried to cut.
Kyzq nope The band has even said themselves its about alien abduction THEY HAVE SAID THIS SEVERAL TIMES and that it's a fun song. Brandon also never tried to kill himself. But People are just obnoxious big headed idiots "my opinion is correct, the hell with what the actual artists have Said" You people have egos out of control, ignoring what Brandon has actually said the song was about because you want to be right.... Wow
I swapped channels on the comms to something more congenial, easy riding maybe and the random locals, as I weaved by the old Bank of England, through a motorised tapestry… The Threadneedle line… entwined… a ceaseless swell of machines and the preoccupied, commuters… absorbed by the hugely epileptic commercials… or rapt inside the private introversions. Despite the rain and the ungodly time the walkways were packed, near crawling and the conveyor lines was much the same… there was not an inch of space to make a jump…
What the song is about to me is wanting something so bad and finally having it and it not being what you expected and it making you appreciate what you already have.
Its about a guy who tries to kill himself aka Overdose. He was hoping to leave this star crossed world behind. But now he wants to stay here. And it all in his mind.
Nathan Higgins nope that's just a theory never confirmed by the band The band has even said themselves its about alien abduction. SEVERAL TIMES And that it's a fun song But People are just obnoxious big headed idiots "my opinion is correct, the hell with what the actual artists have Said"
please stop saying it's about suicide. it's totally fine to have your own interpretation of the song, that's one of the awesome things about music, but there are too many people parading around the suicide theory as absolute fact. brandon himself said the song was about alien abduction. sometimes people just want to write about silly shit, you know? not everything needs to have a deeper meaning behind it.
chng1793z every theory on here has holes at some point in the song. I’ve studied music in depth for years and find common threads relating similar obscure ideas incredibly common. I think it’s referring to (and I don’t necessarily believe this or even think the writers had to believe) the night he sold his soul for fame. There is often reference to aliens/demons in these works and they are often metaphorical. Sounds crazy but give it a few listens through this scope and you’ll realize it’s the only theory that fits perfectly with every line. This may take some prior knowledge of occult origin, and other reference points but more successful artists than not have strongly alluded at some point in their career to this. Could be they picked up on the trend and are trying to build a mysterious persona, maybe something to it, who knows. Maybe I’m wrong?
The band has even said themselves its about alien abduction. SEVERAL TIMES and that it's a fun song But People are just obnoxious big headed idiots "my opinion is correct, the hell with what the actual artists have Said"
I like to think its a silly song, but at times, i feel like it has a deeper meaning. Its all on how i feel that day. I think great songs can be interpreted in many ways, and the killers sure have great songs. They might have their own interpretation they havent shared with us!
this song is so relatable to everyone because it has so much room for interpretation. it is definitely an artistic masterpiece in my unqualififed opinion for this feat alone
i think it talks about an lsd trip...
Suicide attempt
a 4D being realizing its a 5D being and coming back down to make the world a better place
It’s definitely about schizophrenia or other intrusive thoughts due to mental illness and trying to detach
This is my favorite killers song. I feel so good singing along. It’s just a happy sounding song.
🤍
Sorry to tell you but it has connotations of su!cide

Dude... this gives me the weirdest feeling. Like being back in the 80s. I was never in the 80s to begin with tho.
I'm thinking the same thing and I only saw eleven months of the 80s.

I know what this song is actually about. Only a chosen few do...and it's not anything anyone else has mentioned or would ever guess
It's a euphemism for his penis. Right?
I saw this comment a while ago and was so confused. Listened to it a couple times and well... Shit.
Madeline O'Neill haha I forgot that I wrote that. But it totally is.
Ryan Hartson I read this, processed it, then laughed for about the first minute of the song asking "why?" out loud to myself.
Ivy Robinson but then you got it?

Yes, I know what it means. It's awkward because The Killers had a feud with P!ATD and FOB a few years ago.
