Another terrifying film from Cold War Britain. Care of the Homeless (1965) is a Civil Defence training film illustrating the procedures involved in the setting up of rest centres and the billeting of the homeless after a nuclear bomb. There are plans to house people evacuated from Bristol in the nearby city of Bath.

This notion that one can survive a nuclear blast in a city, particularly at ground zero is plain stupid nonsense.

Don’t see that the film was suggesting that anyone at GZ survived. Hiroshima and Nagasaki suggest that it is possible to survive if you are far enough away from GZ.

I was born and lived in Bristol for years and I live in Bath now. Its crazy to think that this film was making out that there would be survivors in Bath and it would be oh so easy and organised. Bath would have been obliterated in 1965 with multiple warheads targeting the City. Back then Bath played a huge role for the MOD with 3 "mega-sites" with 1000`s of people working within. There was also quite a lot of military secretive stuff going on the outskirts. In the 15 years I have lived in Bath they have closed all of these sites..Damn! The film makes out they had Nuked close by Bristol. Again there would have been multiple warheads directed there because it had huge industrial and Port Facilities. The film is incredibly unrealistic and I find it hard to believe that the viewers would buy into this garbage. C`mon!! Still have electric??

Does not seem too bad, lots of cups of tea and a jaunt to the seaside at Weston.

I hope I’m in Bath in 1965 when the bomb drops.
I get the feeling the Home Office didn’t exactly tell the truth in this film. Although a nice cup of tea can do wonders.

Well this movie is way too optimistic. In a real event of a nuclear attack on the UK I would be doubt if any area would be unaffected by fallout and the refugees would be so calm at rest centres.
Likely this idealistic circumstances would last only for 72 hours at most. But after then: pure chaos and anarchy.
