Ed is adorable. I feel so bad for him how the others cut him off all the time and walk away leaving him there standing alone. In other back stories of his character they tell how terrible his childhood was too. That was part of the reason why he became the Riddler. Another part was because nobody ever appreciated his intelligence. (This would be later on for this series of course.) I wish they made a female character similar to him so he could have a chance. Madison McGuff thats the direction taken by Batman the animated series ( 1992). Some of the villains like Mr Freeze, Mad Hatter and Baby Jane were given sympathetic backstories. Interestingly, although Batman still carried out justice for their crimes he was still compassionate in his approach. Thats what I loved about the series. I hope Gotham takes a similar vein.
+Nathan Johnson That made me sad. He was so happy when he was able to help out at the GCPD, those couple of times that his co-workers acknowledged his contribution, and then he spiraled.
He was the best part of Gotham, I loved seeing all the little clues even from the beginning that he was unhinged: the state of his notebook in the very first scene, the way he loves all the little details of a gruesome kill, the smile on his face watching the police station devolve into chaos. His character was done so well.
I could watch him for hours he is the best riddler by far. I like Carry but he was to over the top. This guy fines the right balance and that smile is hiding something more sinister behind it.
Notice Ed's agitation when Gordon solves his riddle. The one thing the Riddler hates the most is when people answer his shit right, because it takes the power away from himself and he no longer has something that they want and only he knows. When he asks you a riddle he really only wants the wrong answers so he can feel superior to you,so he can be right and you be wrong. Dude is twisted.
+EspeciallyTheLies I think the reason why he got upset when Gordon got it right on these clips. Was because the way Gordon answered. He didn't make much eye contact and the way he answered sounded like he didn't see the riddle as much of a challenge.
Why do I get the feeling that all it would take is a few people telling him "good job" or "that's brilliant Ed" every now and again to avoid him becoming a narcissistic sociopath?
Ed reminds me a of a girl in my class with aspergers. Hyperinterested in his work and his field of expertise, really intelligent in almost a robotic way, is relatively slow to pick up and social cues, but he still means well and attempts to be friendly when he smiles. Also goes really into detail when explaining things to other people. It’s hard to look at the Riddler as a villain here if you just think he’s an autistic guy - I actually think he’s kinda sweet.
Olivia Drambarean You spell it wrong. Only the Riddler in the TV show (and a few others) are spelled Nygma. My real name is Nigma. Look it up. Enigma. You understand?

Also I searched up his name and on google it popped up spelled Nygma not just for the tv show but also the comics....but I'll take your word Ed.
Johanna ღ Nygma is a guy who likes riddles and acts like a master strategist. He doesn't act like a a crazy guy making jokes all the time like Jim Carry did.
His plotline teaches a very important lesson. Murder cures autism, people. But seriously, it was so frustrating that our neirodivergent representation sweetroll had a 180 character turn into the maximum adjusted charmer, like :\ seriously. I bet it's just easier to write him like that instead of working his original persona into the showman villain role.
Whenever I see nygma I smile. He is really innocent guy, I cant believe he will be a bad guy. But riddler maybe only batman villain without evil intention
Mr Freeze has no evil intention. He just wants to save his wife. But, Ed only wants to be appreciated and seen, and his way of showing that is through violence, cus that's the only way he can get the attention he craves.
Kind of similar with Catwoman.. she's not diabolically evil she mostly just enjoys toying with Batman and all though she comes off as non caring and non sympathetic she actually is just misunderstood and guarded do to her past
i love how nygma is casually better than sherlock. with sherlock, he takes 30 mins in complete silence to figure things out. nygma makes silly remarks in an urban space in around 5 minutes while he giggles and enjoys his job, even observing things not even sherlock could notice (as fast).
Finding someone uncomfortable to interact with doesn’t mean active dislike. Ed kinda reminds me of this one guy from a biotech-forensics course I took - super obsessive, never sat still, weird hobbies, odd sense of humor, and very little grasp of social cues. The guy was weird and hard to interact with, he almost effortlessly made people uncomfortable, but that didn’t mean everyone disliked him. He was a decent enough guy; you just had to be very blunt with him. He was still learning what most people know instinctively from the time they’re very young; most of our classmates kind of knew that and tried to be patient. I see a lot of that in Jim’s interactions with Ed - that patience. Same with Captain Essen. Virtually everyone else just insults him or treats him badly for not already knowing this stuff.
Hahahah.... Thank you so much for uploading :) I *love* this guy as the Riddler. He is actually kinda hot but the mannerisms and the "I-am-creepy" hair do very nearly kills it. To top it off, his brilliance in Gotham is so seriously under-appreciated. He's this oddball that everybody seems to take for granted. And those scenes with Kristen Kringle!!! I laughed so hard! He tried to flirt and it turned out so futile xD I know that feeling :'( Honestly he's probably the only real reason why I'm watching Gotham. I can't wait to see more of him :D
DOES ANYONE ELSE JUST THINK ED IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!? His looks, his smartness, his adorkable ways like dream guy XD (except that he's a murderer BUT HE ONLY DID THAT FOR HIS LOVE AND THEN BECAUSE HE WANTED TO) like why did Ms.Cringle not fall for him quicker he is amazing, AND I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE RIDDLER HE'S MY FAVE!!!!! And the joker ya know but whatever because Edward Nygma is my huspand
chizoioioi re-reading my comment just made me cringeeee 😂😂 I was going through a Ed phase; I mean I still flipping love him but Jesus I needed to calm down 😂
Oh, Ed. He's so entertaining and, in my opinion, deserves a bit more screentime. I love how much joy he takes in watching that girl die from Viper/Venom. I'm still wondering about the video games, though. Maybe he was lonely from playing video games by himself.
Dwarf Fortress? I read that's a construction game, but I first assumed that it was a strategy game. It could possibly be both, I guess. Also, have you read the Sherlock Holmes novels? Er, stories, Sherlock only had three full length books. I haven't read my collection in a while.
poor Ed....he doesn't deserve to go through that. actually, now that I think about it..... me and Ed have a lot in common; we love riddles, we both wear glasses, love science and blowing things up and I won't treat him the way every one else at the GCPD does (because 1, my parents taught me better. and 2, it's just plain mean.)
harvey was so unnecessarily rude to him :') i loved s1 ed the most tbh.. he was sweet but misunderstood. the pre-riddler version of him has a special place in my heart..
I love the Riddler and there’s so much untapped potential with the character. A dark version that is still comedic in a messed up way. Not joker crazy, but smarter. Like a less gruesome; more comedic jigsaw.
I feel sorry for Edward, if it wasn't for his arrogant and some times creepy attitude, I could see him as someone I'd get along with, especially if I just got called out at 3AM to a Double Homicide. Basically, he's the chipper CSI who loves his job except no one can stand him.
Cory Michael Smith is a great actor to the Riddler, he gave his touch of sophistication, charisma, and with how handsome and sexy Cory is, the Riddler was for me the most attractive character in Gotham
Für mich ist Oswald Cobblepot der Genialste. Ich habe mich in ihn verliebt. ❤❤❤ Wenn mich jemand nervt, nerve ich ihn mit Rätseln. Ich liebe die Raterunden vom Riddler.
+Emmuelle Berger It's funny you should say that because Mathew Gray Gubler who plays Reid voiced Riddler in the Arkhamverse animated film Batman Assault on Arkham.
he acts a lot like me weird, nerdy, spouts facts at random, interested in weird was things, having no idea what certain things are a social no no.........HE'S PERFECT😍
This guy joins Frank Gorshin, John Astin and Jim Carrey in making The Riddler really fun. Crazy, but fun. John Glover was very sophisticated and twisted but the other guys are more memorable.
He's soooo cute and sweet , I don't like that cringle lady she's so mean to him He is that cute that's dateable I know what he becomes The riddler has always been one of my fave batman villains Can't wait to see him start to take that turn
everytime i see edward i feel so bad for him, he just needed someone to understand him the way he was and instead they were mean towards him, my boy deserves better
I felt sorry for Edward when he was trying to get Kringle to notice him and he did the right thing by killing her abusive ex boyfriend Dougherty. And him killing her after he told her that was an accident. But I stopped feeling sorry for him after he started enjoying the thrill of getting away with killing her which caused both his Edward Nygma and Riddler personalities to merge together then killed an old man because he saw him burying her body in the woods. And he crossed the line by killing an innocent cop and framing Jim for his murder and also revealing that Jim killed Galavan even though Galavan deserved to die. And all because Edward was paranoid that Jim suspected he killed Kringle. And he also indirectly caused Lee to miscarry her and Jim's unborn child because of the stress of Jim being framed and sent to Blackgate.
I still feel sorry for him, even after what he did. Honestly, he was suffering from either schizophrenia or multiple personality disorder and went insane. It was inevitable that his original personality and his Riddler personality would merge together; the fact that Ed held out as long as he did proves that he didn't really like what he was doing, but the other personality did and influenced him. The Riddler was stronger than Edward. His mental instability coupled with everyone always being mean to him and him accidentally killing Kristen was too much for Ed, not that I mind that he killed her; she was always way too mean to him.
Honestly, I still love him. He's one of my three favorite characters from Gotham, but I guess I don't really care about much of what he does cause I love villains in shows and movies. He also probably has Dissociative Identity Disorder and Schizophrenia that was completely untreated (as far as we know) so that probably plays a big factor in the crazy stuff he does.
Yes, I know he's going to become a mass murdering egomaniacal criminal, but damn do I love Nygma.
thats what makes him great
Cory is so hot
He’s not really a mass murdering not his thing
Thx
He’s more of a jigsaw killer kind of guy. If a hostage fails his riddles they die, that’s how the Riddler plays the game.

I can't be the only one who thinks he looks like idubbbz.....
J. D that's my exact thoughts. He's a bit healthier looking tho and more good looking. :)
kc kay
Edups looks more like Arkham riddler
*that’s* why i love him so much
don’t ruin it
J. D totally
This poor dude has a whole villain arc because no one would be his friend.
Bruh I know I was really sad for this dude all because he wanted friends and a girlfriend
I kind of enjoy the character of Nygma. Thanks to him I find myself becoming more organized. Thanks Nygma You Rock.
+Mikhaila Shetler Thank you. I should be an inspiration for everyone.
E. Nigma
Edward Nigma ed, you are the best ever!
Yes I love how at 0:44 he is just sneaking around the corner my friends compare me to him all the time
Agreed. I have a crush on the Riddler in general but this guy is the best live action Ed. I think he is adorable
The Thot Cult Productions yeah hahaha thats my favorite part
"... There is a MUCH better way to do this."
I personally don't think someone who is perfect in every way would make you solve 400 riddles just to see him
Why didnt Kringle fall for him, because shes attracted to forceful jerks. And because he gave off weird stalker vibes like trying to sniff her o.O
chizoioioi re-reading my comment just made me cringeeee 😂😂 I was going through a Ed phase; I mean I still flipping love him but Jesus I needed to calm down 😂
"No! I want you....to keep your job, and to have it here for...working"
Oh, Ed. He's so entertaining and, in my opinion, deserves a bit more screentime. I love how much joy he takes in watching that girl die from Viper/Venom.
I'm still wondering about the video games, though. Maybe he was lonely from playing video games by himself.
Did he just say 'You slumpy ignoramus'? What does slumpy mean?
Viola Girl Sloppy, a sloppy ignoramus. He was referring to the fact that the coroner missed an important clue.
Ah, OK. Thanks.
Viola Girl He probably plays the most complex games of all. I wonder if he's a Dwarf Fortress fan...
Dwarf Fortress? I read that's a construction game, but I first assumed that it was a strategy game. It could possibly be both, I guess. Also, have you read the Sherlock Holmes novels? Er, stories, Sherlock only had three full length books. I haven't read my collection in a while.
I really love this version of Eddie. Very accurate to the comics, and proof that a live action Riddler CAN be done right.
No wonder he becomes a villain... They treat him like shit.
Madeleine's Paige Exactly what happens to school shooters; they get bullied and snap.
@@bboybolt8193 very true.
he's the cutest thing
People hate him in the Arkham series
Oh Nygma...can I adopt you?
+YingFaDono No. I don't think that you are worthy. Can you prove that I am wrong?
+Edward Nigma LET ME TRY
YingFaDono
One simple test:
When you need me, you throw me away.
When you don't need me anymore, you retract me.
What am I?
+Edward Nigma an anchor
YingFaDono
Google, your friend and helper.
hes the best and everyone treats him like trash
poor Ed....he doesn't deserve to go through that. actually, now that I think about it..... me and Ed have a lot in common; we love riddles, we both wear glasses, love science and blowing things up and I won't treat him the way every one else at the GCPD does (because 1, my parents taught me better. and 2, it's just plain mean.)
also I like video games just as much as he does :)
harvey was so unnecessarily rude to him :') i loved s1 ed the most tbh.. he was sweet but misunderstood. the pre-riddler version of him has a special place in my heart..
I love him. He's fucking adorable.
aww he is adorable! and he loves to play videogames! like me.
He should have more screen time than Barbara kean, tabitah and butch
The Riddler and Scarecrow are my two favorite Batman villains, for different reasons.
S R the Riddler is my favourite
I love the Riddler and there’s so much untapped potential with the character. A dark version that is still comedic in a messed up way. Not joker crazy, but smarter. Like a less gruesome; more comedic jigsaw.
Ed just need a friend... and need more appreciation for his work because he's a goddamn genius and helped the GCPD a lot.
I feel sorry for Edward, if it wasn't for his arrogant and some times creepy attitude, I could see him as someone I'd get along with, especially if I just got called out at 3AM to a Double Homicide.
Basically, he's the chipper CSI who loves his job except no one can stand him.
The saddest part of him is that he’s actually a decent and unique person. The kind of dorky guy I love if not for his split personality disorder.
Somebody be nice to him, he’s good at his job and a sweet little fella!
Wenn mich jemand nervt, nerve ich ihn mit Rätseln. Ich liebe die Raterunden vom Riddler.
He's so misunderstood
This Nygma guy reminds me of Reid from Criminal Minds.
+Emmuelle Berger It's funny you should say that because Mathew Gray Gubler who plays Reid voiced Riddler in the Arkhamverse animated film Batman Assault on Arkham.
+Emmuelle Berger Pretty soon Hotchner's team is going to resolve a murder commited by Reid. Sure about that XD ;-)
Reid from crim minds the actor was the riddler on the assault on arkam movie
What do a cruise ship and a dead body have in common
lowers microphone to body
correct nothing
he acts a lot like me weird, nerdy, spouts facts at random, interested in weird was things, having no idea what certain things are a social no no.........HE'S PERFECT😍
I love love love this guy as Edward.
Edward is so gorgeous..I want him as a Friend.. he has a fantastic intelligent mind
Do you play video games??
Ed..Don't EVER! Do that again!
I love Nygmobblepot ♥
Get out.
They have an entire fanbase on Twitter
+Edward Nashton They do??
I 👏🏻 want 👏🏻 to 👏🏻 be 👏🏻 his 👏🏻 best 👏🏻 friend 👏🏻 he 👏🏻 deserves 👏🏻 love 👏🏻
This guy joins Frank Gorshin, John Astin and Jim Carrey in making The Riddler really fun. Crazy, but fun. John Glover was very sophisticated and twisted but the other guys are more memorable.
God the acting in this series is great! I got to start watching this.
He's soooo cute and sweet ,
I don't like that cringle lady she's so mean to him
He is that cute that's dateable
I know what he becomes
The riddler has always been one of my fave batman villains
Can't wait to see him start to take that turn
sploosh09 She's not being mean she just doesn't like how he's acting on other private space.
He's so cute and sweet and I don't understand why they are so mean to him he doesn't deserve it but then he wouldn't become the Riddler
I love jim carrey but Corey Michael Smith goated this character 💚
gosh i love him hes so skrunkly
Man, I feel bad, 'cause we all know where he's headed....
Looks like he's about to make a Content Cop on the Batman
I want to hug him.
I know right?
He and Sherlock might get along fabulously...if they didn't strangle each other.
He really is one of the highlights of the show in my opinion
everytime i see edward i feel so bad for him, he just needed someone to understand him the way he was and instead they were mean towards him, my boy deserves better
10:03 First sign of Riddler peeking through Nygma
Yep. *sigh* So awesome :D
Oh I still like and am interested him as a character. My sympathy for him's just gone.
As much as I love the Riddler Ed that we have now, boy, do I miss this Ed.
