I think it's safe to say that this "new" sprayer Travis bought and fixed up is a massive upgrade over the defunct one sitting in your shed. If it does the job well and allows you to avoid having to call for a self-propelled model from Nutrien to come out and do the same job, I'll chalk it up as a win. Who doesn't like winning? Thanks for the video.
Here in the UK grass growing is a big thing and we always use nitrogen as well as P and K fertilisers normally in solid form which is far faster than spraying or alternatively a lot of slurry
The only spray on stuff my co op could get me was black label w zinc... not overly impressed with it. That sprayer is similar to mine, just make sure to flush everything with water when you're done those things clog like crazy 😕
Agritec, liquid calcium and fertilizer. I have been using them and have great results. Talk to Gary. I also aerate the ground with a plug style unit. Scott from north Texas hay had a nice unit to aerate. I miss him.
Ryan even though there are a lot of other farming channels now then there were way back when you started, I just wanna say you were probably the one that inspired many of those RUclipsrs now whet they admit it or not.
Raising a crop of grass hay is like raising corn you need phosphorus and potash to get good yields , if you haven't put any down in the last 5 years you are running low . I would consider soil sample and a crop advisor with knowledge of grass hay production
Liked the back lit shots at 7:48. That really showed the spray pattern. It'll be interesting to see what the results are once you go to cut it, if you notice more / thicker / higher crop when cutting, or obviously more bales in the fertilized area vs the non. Lookin' forward to some TROTS vids from Travis laying down fert on his new hay ground. And the belt - pure Yankee ingenuity. To steal a line from the movie Heartbreak Ridge - You improvised, you adapted, you overcame.
Ryan says that the sprayer has been welded before. He must not watch his brother's channel because it was travis that welded it before. In Travis' video, he mentions that he didn't weld it hot enough (before Ryan broke it) and had to weld it again (after Ryan broke it). Nice to see Ryan is keeping up with his brother's channel.
Hey ryan, couple questions for you. Are the fields more alfalfa or grass? Alfalfa is a legume and makes it's own nitrogen. We're have seen a good response applying gypsum on our hay fields. Ther hay needs ther calcium. Do you have any soil tests? Also another thing. My sprayer needs to be running at 25 to 30 psi minimum to Gerry the nozzles to tm on decent
Hi there from the UK. I would say the only reason you were having a few issues was because you were going to slowly forward. The nozzles were too large for your forward speed, hence the low spraying pressure and it was finding it hard to overcome the anti drip diaphragms in the nozzle holders. Have a look out for a nozzle chart and that will be a good guide to what speed you need. Or just go a little faster or add some more water. You also need to keep the booms up, as you didn’t look to be covering all the ground between the nozzles.
Good to see the manager didn't miss out on a tractor ride. One question though, when's the last time you checked the ph in the grass areas? You may need a shot of lime to assist with nutrient uptake. Maybe have the intern go out and get soil samples.
Love your videos just like Travis's you two are both so informative I really love seeing that 4640 getting out and doing some work in summer that was my first brand new tractor many years ago 1978 take care and be safe out there
I see I'm not the only one getting some random foliar trials done this year for the simple reason of "why not? It'll be fun!". Great video. I agree with the comment saying to spray at a higher speed. Those nozzles will probably spring to life with an extra 2mph, barring some other issue holding it up.
should of tried different nozzles on the sprayer those were the 3 whole pattern u need the 1s that build higher pressure n spray a heavy mist hope these nozzles works for u
Drone footage looked great . The sprayer and tractor looked really good as a unit. Thanks for sharing. I think I remember Travis blamed himself for that part breaking. Take care.
Back in the 1970's I worked for Texaco in Lockport Ill. We made pure Anhydrous Ammonia. It was cut by grain elevators and fertalizer spreading companies. In the 70's they made what was called Aqua Ammonia which was 22%. Some where between then and now it was raised to 32%.
Always happy to see each and every video you produce, Ryan!!! If our daddy were still with us, I'll bet he'd be your biggest fan with all the technology that has happened since the 1960's when we farmed. ;o)
Finally got to see the sprayer your brother fixed. Yup it was the cat but you got your field sprayed. Should help. Hope you and your brother have a good hay crop.
Pretty nice sprayer set up especially with the auto on an off function. Black cat had one also crossed my path, than I walk under a ladder no problem. Picked up a floor mirror annn dropped an broken 😬😳
I wonder if raising your engine RPM or increasing your hydraulic flow might help push product out of the nozzles better. Seemed like a weak stream out of them and would benefit from more pressure.
Ryan I really liked the music and the drone views all went well together. I hope you use the music again. With the drone views you can tell if you have plugged nozzles on the sprayer. With equipment nowadays getting bigger will you change your stripping to accommodate so there isn't so much overlapping ? Love your videos.
Man, you're a genius when you used your belt! Sometimes you just got do with what you have. Have had some fun ones like that happen as well. 👍 "Instances happen" 🇺🇸🐮💪❤️
Have you checked out Grassmen in Ireland. Main man is a big JD fan. (Rates a NH T7.315 HD was his favourite Demo) Just reviewed a FastTrak and currently a Valtra.. ls known in UK for silage but covers many other things
I'm hoping you will show us the result in 3 days, a week and 3 weeks? The liquid we use shows definite improvement within 48 hours. Be interested to see yours at work.
Because that is a new seeding you can get away with no tilling in some cow peas next spring at about 10 to 15 pounds per acer. the added tonage will cover the cost of seed and fuel plus free nitrogen. Not trying to tell you how to farm. Just an idea if you are interested.
That liquid nitrogen is incredibly caustic. If you have any metal or galvanized pipe or fittings on your sprayer it eats them up quick. It is just acid!
No, not that sophisticated a rate controller, and not individual nozzles like that fancy sprayer he rode in earlier that could do that over the waterways... Later! OL J R :)
How would a high school student get farming experience? I have an Idea of how to farm but a 0 experience and was wondering if someone could help me out.
A lot of farmers fertilize their own way. I been briefing the channel past few years when bored, but even though that anhydrous ammonia, 200lbs an acre, with a coat of dry in fall, best corn. But i think their ground up there is a lot better than central indiana, Im guessing. Has to be, or hes a liar on all their yields. And im not saying that, but even knowing the way to get best corn some farmers choose to not pay high fertilizer bills and just take the loss. In a real farm world... Hes just wasting time here whether you look at it. Unless thats all the side dressing they do if they dont pre plant anhydrous. Def dont think they pre plant annie
rule of thumb for fescue on turf lawns is 1lb of Nitrogen per thousand sq ft..it probably needs P and K too, if the root structure is short below the soil you'll get less yield because it won't handle drought as well either. not sure what they call for when it comes to hay but i think your too low on N, like i said, thats just the turf side of my mind thinking. i would take soil samples though for sure. figure out what your lacking in the soil.
If you were spraying product on plants, like a weed killer, you would want more of a mist. Those nozzles might be too large unless you up the volume and drive faster, but that might be hard on the sprayer if the ground is rough. For fertilizer it might be okay as it puts the product into the ground more than on the grass.
I’ve heard you mention your brothers channel more in the last few days than in the last year... I really like both of your channels
Me too.
Me also
Hey what’s Travis’s channel name?

Lunch break on the farm with Ryan gotta love it!
So awesome to see golden age John Deere equipment like that still going to work! Beautiful tractor and awesome videos!

Sprayer seems like it works really good nice job Ryan. And nice job to Travis getting it going, you guys complement each other

The Drone footage is amazing!!!!!
Ryans amazing belt fix though

Travis did a fix on that holder! He even said it wasnt what we will call perfect but S#*T happens!! LOL!!! Good fix with the belt
Nice video Ryan! Hooking that sprayer up the AgLeader was a fun little project. It’s nice to see it in action. Cool drone shots!

We spray Boron on our Alfalfa alongside tombstone for leafhoppers between our 1st and 2nd cut.
great video, hope the sprayer works out
Hey Ryan!! Crops are looking good. Keep up the great videos buddy!
You need to drive a bit faster then you can drop the rate down and keep the nozzles flowing right
fight with that with our sprayer, especially when turning

Thanks for the vid Ryan..
When we side dress our wheat in February, March we will usually hit our hay ground with a shot of 28%, always a big jump in tonnage!
How did the tractor handle the weight when full going down the road? Seems like it'd make the front a bit light.
The belt🤣🤣🤣 well and this is why farmers are so much cooler than anybody else is because of the things they come up with
Are you going to wash the 46 after you are done spraying and put the duals back on and wash the 82 as well
Love the videos Ryan... you guys should get a Landoll Tillol... we Run one and it makes a perfect bed for coming through and planting
I have a chart for easy calibration.
Agritec has good products, liquid fertilizer and calcium etc.
Been using them for a few years now.
B2 or not B2 that is the speed question lol. Great Video Ryan- Glad to see Rocket in the video as well. Have Fun and Stay Safe :)
Ryan can you please explain what the grass strips are all about .. I am guessing erosion ,but is erosion so bad where you are ??
It didn't fold up because of the cat... Lol
@Jeffery Amherst they do make good coyote bait. 👍
Me watching him manually unfold the booms well I sit in my John Deere self-propelled sprayer pushing a button
Now you’ll really gave a good test plot for whether it worked.

Does the airconditioning work on that tractor
Ah, the belt trick... been there lol :)))
There should be a filter up in the nozzle on the boom once youve taken the tip off
I sprayed 28% down on my grass fields befor a rain turned it nice and green I didnt mix it with water either it was first time trying this.
Whoo. I lost a few days its only Sunday today in Scotland 28th🙄🤣
Fantastico, as Clint Eastwood once said improvise and adapt, You did exactly that Ryan:):)

I’d say you’re going way to slow pump can’t build pressure that’s why 15 didn’t work
Is that supposed to be spraying streams or a misting layer
Hows the cost of liquid compare to dry fertilizer?
Should of broadcasted the fertilizer
I'm hoping you will show us the result in 3 days, a week and 3 weeks? The liquid we use shows definite improvement within 48 hours. Be interested to see yours at work.
We have a international 684 and a john deere 2640 and a ford 4000 tractors
Damn in Europe, it's almost impossible to get 32%, but I'll just mix 50% clover into the grass mixture and get nitrogen :)

How are you able to keep up with only 1 semi truck?
I see you can't leave in the tractor without your manager jumping in to supervise
What's the name of the song your playing in this video?
You should carry some paracord in the tractor.
Does it increase the flow rate on the outside of a curve and/or decrease the flow rate on the inside when you turn a corner?
No, not that sophisticated a rate controller, and not individual nozzles like that fancy sprayer he rode in earlier that could do that over the waterways... Later! OL J R :)

Pretty sure that was a stripe-free skunk. Pretty rare but better than a black cat.
What breed of dog is rocket
May have to bump up the rate or less water and more product
Driving faster could have solved it, as it would've increased the flow so the product reached all the nozzles! Rookie mistake!
Check out the agphd fertilizer removal app, might help to know what rate your aiming for.
cool man 😁
Were Hannah been haven’t seen in your video lately Ryan
I've noticed that too. Hmmmmmmm ..

5 gallons of %32 N to the acre isn’t going to give you much response. That’s less than 20 pound to the acre. Just a thought.

My mother once tied up a dragging car muffler with her panty hose.
I've used many wire coathangers to tie up exhausts in the '70s & '80s.
Your not getting enough pressure to the nozzle. You want a fine mist, either not enough pressure or wrong nozzle. Or both
Those are tri-stream fertilizer nozzles, not flat fan spray nozzles... Later! OL J R :)
If you get a new baler are you going to get a John Deere?
where is Hana
She won't be back until her name is spelled correctly.;)
You should have put the other side in first. That's where it was when you unfolded them.
Shouldn't you have more of a mist? More like when you spray?
Not when applying fert. The streams are meant to get the liquid to the ground. This is an application when less plant coverage is better.
@@TheRestOfTheStory that makes sense. If you cover the plant the chance of plant burn increases. Are you happy with the job that sprayer does?

Go ahead, rotate to alfalfa. We’ll watch how it does.
you will get better bang for your buck by puting potash on hay but it will be intresting to see what happens.
Use liquid 32 and sulfur ........ ." Y-drop " Ill never again use dry fertilizer !
Don’t use dicamba that will kill all your crops we killed most of our alfalfa this year spraying dicamba

Surprised your not spreading manure after you bale.
