@@MrSpeed-do2zkhahaha No !!! Houston is flat out ghetto I've lived here my whole life in the Heights area that was the best neighborhood for me
@@MrSpeed-do2zk on the contrary, it should be considered child abuse to raise kids in houston. The air quality is bad that one can’t even breathe there. It’s an environmental disgrace that needs to be wiped off the planet for global survival. The same can be said for many Indian cities and Mexico City.
There is also a lot of petty and property theft there. It’s just a desperate coastal shithole. New Orleans but with buildings
San Antonio is just like Houston but farther from the coast and hotter. Houston but *without* buildings and, in many ways worse but you can breathe there for now. Your best bet would be Austin and Dallas if you are going to Texas. All the important stuff happens in Austin or Dallas.
CNBC finally slammed Texas as the worst state in America, it is dystopian

I'm from Twin Falls, Idaho. I hated our 7-month winters.
I moved to Houston in 1979 and have been warm and happy ever since.
My birthday is in April, and I always wanted to go swimming for my birthday.
Not in Idaho! Shoot, you're lucky if it's warm enough in May.
But, as for Houston, I see it as the world's largest small town.
I know that sounds odd but, each Zip code has it's own flare.
The people are amazing! It makes living here worth every penny.
I'll never forget my first day here, stepping out of the car after a 38 hour drive,
I stepped in Fire Ants. Welcome to Houston. :)
There are always trade offs.
What do you mean "7 month winters"???????
It's only 6 months and 28 days.
I moved to a location with 4 seasons. Couldn’t take the 8-month summers and wearing summer attire on Christmas Day.
Yes, fire ants attacked me when I first arrived in S.C. They burned so bad.
I’m born and raised in Houston and lived in LA for two years. Los Angeles has objectively worse drivers and traffic by a country mile.
I think traffic is worse in Houston
I'm from NJ/NY and I just moved to TX.. houston by far or should I say I10 by far have the worse drivers.. LA must be crazy lol
Definitely!!
Y’all haven’t sent nothing come to the bay
Oakland is the Wild West frfr
Houstonian here, I’ve been to LA, traffic is way worse
With the water Heaters and the AC unit, you have to put Clorox in the pipes once a month, and that will prevent the pipes from getting clogged
DON"T put plumbing in attic !!!! you wouldn't think someone would have to tell you this .
Love love Houston WestU ! We are from the Netherlands. Always cold and rainy. I love the heat, the people, food. Everything is great. The traffic was in the beginning scary. But I love the freedom.
Why do you like the humidity in Houston?
@@AzureKite191 I love the warm weather, Holland has the same humidity but it’s cold. Then I prefer Houston.

Welcome to Texas 🤠
FYI, majority of bad drivers are people that moved in to Texas from other states. I’ve lived in Houston for over 30 years and I noticed bad drivers when outsiders started moving in.
Houston has tons of bad drivers. I have been rear ended at least six times in Houston. For some reason, teenage girls are the worst drivers and I have been hit twice by females running through stop signs. The last person didn’t have insurance so she lost her license and my insurance company sued the driver and her mother (who owned the car).
Say it again!!
It's stupid ppl like this who do whatever for likes that mislead ppl all the time!
@@picklerix6162so you missed the part where they said it's peoole from OUT OF TOWN huh???? You DO REALIZE millions that moved here from other states right! And honestly if YOU got in six wrecks YOU are the problem
I was in Los Angeles. Also a city of people from not there. Houston drivers are not nice (I'm refraining from saying more) but SD and LA drivers were saints comparatively speaking. In fact I kept saying it as I was driving there.
Maybe the problem is the 3 of y’all. I was born and raised in Houston, so I do drive fast. If you’ve been rear ended several times, drive faster or stay in the right lane. Get out of people’s way. I love driving in Houston. Everyone drives 10 mph over the speed limit. If you can’t handle it, take the bus. My guess is that Downtoearth, Pickles, and Yosteve are older people who were not raised in Houston, nor did they learn to drive there. If they were from Houston or had learned to drive there, they wouldn’t have any complaints. Now that I live in Austin, I’m always beyond annoyed with people who actually drive the speed limit or slower. I don’t have all day to leisurely drive from point A to B.
The worst thing lately is people moving to Texas. They are slow drivers, rude, entitled, complaining about EVERYTHING, lost about everything, imposing their beliefs on you, they also don't seem to be Adapting to life in general.
They can’t drive for shh in the rain here. They cause so many accidents in Houston trying to go like 70 in thunderstorms. Like y’all were going 40 for a reason. Saw someone just the other day wreck on I10 right before the morning commute with them closing 3 lanes 😭 Cali folks
I worked with Texans why are you people so loud.
You just described Texans
News Flash: Texas is not that great and the rest of the country hates you.😊
Go back to CA if it is so bad ya mo r on!
Houston is tucked into a southeast corner of Texas, on the Coastal Plain. Texas is HUGE: different soils, widely different average rainfall totals, different average temperatures, different bugs/spiders, different utility delivery systems, and different local customs. Even the local accents in different regions are different.
Moved here a few years ago… property taxes are insane…now homeowners and car insurance are following suit. The heat is like living in the devils asshole with the humidity. Outta here in a few years, counting the days
Where are you going?
@k4door789 looking at a few different states… would like a smaller house around 1500-1700 sq ft w30-40 acres. Small farm. Want my seasons back… miss cool crisp fall. Already have a game plan for the farm, just have to implement it to adjust to acres. No big cities, no HOA, quiet country life
Can't wait
Property taxes were not bad till people from CA started moving here and driving property values sky high .
I lived in Houston from 1976-1988 and loved it when I first moved there. It was just the right size with lots of activities and not too much traffic, but then the boom started and it became intolerable. Traffic increased, the heat and humidity were awful, and my sinuses were always inflamed.
1. Big house will used more cooling and heating.
2. Wrong place to put water heater.
3. Easy diy fix for your drain pan on the ac. Pour a little bit of bleach With water so it goes down the pvc pipe. As it should eat away any algae buildup.
Even Texans watching this noticed how bizarre it was to find a water heater in the attic. What on earth!? Very bad idea.
Water heater is more efficient in the heat of the attic, no basements, maximizes free space in the home. People should be regularly checking their home (at least every 4 months) anyway
The out of control violent crime, and weak on crime prosecutors, are by far one of the biggest threats facing Houston!
I lived in Southeast Texas for the first 41 years of my life. I've never seen hot water heaters or AC units in the attic. I can't imagine why the builders did that. I can say that out of your list my least favorite thing is the fast drivers. I could tell some stories. I used to drive into Houston for the Zoo, the Museums, and Concerts but you couldn't pay me to live there. I'm definitely a small town woman. ; )
As a Texan, I can say that many people don’t need to be chatty to be capable. You want something? Ask the question. It’s not rude. It’s patience and courtesy.
The allergies suck.
It’s freakin hot.
Outrageous power bills …because,
ITS FREAKIN HOT.
Crying about heater and ac drains…. You can’t maintain your home ?
“But I don’t want to. Why are the attics so hot?”
😂 because it’s freakin hot.
Thunderstorms and hurricanes?
Never heard of em huh?
Property taxes. Yep.
We all hate it. Don’t move somewhere before doing your homework.
Plus, it’s hot.
Traffic?
Construction?
You don’t have that anywhere. The buildings and roads just grow out of the ground everywhere else.
Houston drivers?
Yep. Everyone knows.
Bugs and mosquitoes?
Only tropical rainforests are worse.
Mud daubers, black widows, gators, hogs, Aggies ?
Never watched wild kingdom?
Contractors?
Yeah, do your research.
Again?
Intense heat.
Yeah, it’s hot.
Houston is on the same latitude as the North African desert countries.
Not sarcasm. It’s super hot AND HUMID.
Red ants.
Yep. Avoid em.
SNAKE !
😂
Avoid the poison ivy, poison oak, chiggers, horseflies, paper hornets and yard Nazis ( overbearing HOA’s)
I think being born in texas made me weaker to the cold lol. I can take heat to an extent but cold? no
Atleast mud daubers aren't aggressive like hornets

YEEEEEEE----HAAWWW
@@olliewithab1926 I'm the exact opposite. I live in Cleveland, and i rather have 50 degrees (even 40) over a 90 degree day.
The biggest hazard with Houston traffic is that you have drivers from all over the world, and they all learned to drive differently. That makes them unpredictable. Compare that to New Jersey and New York. There, everyone drives very aggressively, but since they all drive aggressively, they're predictable.
You have a good point.
Born and raised in Texas and its okay.. but I do recommend get a native Texas friend. They will help you through anything process u need.
You missed the Crime Rate. It's insane how much crime is in that area.
Some don’t consider stealing a crime. It’s a right! Just ask the collective who vote to force individuals to pay for their special interests or go to prison.
It’s all the you know who’s moving here
About property taxes. You need to claim a homestead exemption so they can only raise your value 10 percent.
Im using a company to fight it as well

I had one on bone dry Sacramento… cools down at night into the 60s… not so in Texas… way too humid and stays 80+ degrees all night may through September . Just my $.02.
Sump pump
Basement?! In Houston? What's that?
What Basement? There isn’t a single basement anywhere in Houston. We are too close to the coast.
Dude, I'm a native Texan, and no one should move to Houston, Dallas, or Austin! Lol. Find you a way smaller city/town to move to, and you'll be much happier. Houston's crime is liken to Atlanta, Ga!
Summarizing:
When it rains hard, it splashes.
It is hot during the summer.
Drainage pipes can clog.
Some weird animals unknown to the rest of the US: mosquitos, bees and ants.
Electric bill and property taxes are high.
You think no other state has mosquitoes, bees and ants???? All southern states especially fight them all the time.
My cat is eyeballing that box...
Homestead Exemption also protects you from ridiculous rate increases, 10% max every year. So even if your house goes up by 50% you max out at 10% in taxable value
Our Air Con. went out last summer Hell on Earth! The bill for the new one as the old one was toast and the duct work was put in wrong ....$8000.
The biggest thing I noticed moving to Texas is the Spring. The Summer is long and all people talk about, but Texas is in Spring if it's not Summer. The lack of Winter makes the longest Spring I have ever seen. The trees do not turn much so October feels like late Spring. Winter is early Spring. And then it's still Spring until late May.
We have 4 seasons in Texas: Hot, Hotter, Hottest and OMGee!
I’m Texas we don’t have the tools to remove ice or snow. Once salt is on the road it melts a little then refreezes then turns to black ice then everything shuts down. Be prepared for January!!! I can’t express that enough your live will be hell when it freezes

We need republicans to stay in Texas 😢
@@rileytheminidachshundimmigration will eventually be the culprit. Look up Texas public school demographics. Way too many people here who’s parents are not from here or the USA for that matter. Too easily manipulated by all the bias media.
Lastly, every sub-division has an HOA. HOAs are huge in Texas, and the state gives them way too much power. The boards can get out of hand. If you move into a new development, it will be several years before the HOA is turned over to the residents, and the management companies need to be more responsive.
Who invented HOA ? And why do home owners not vote them out
@@kathyfugere6085 I'm not sure who created the concept. In newly built neighborhoods, the HOA can take years to transfer to the residents if they ever are. Many new build areas come with contracts that state the HOA is in the hands of a permanent company and never transfers to residents. Many of those companies manage thousands of HOAs and never respond to any of them unless they take enforcement actions. I hate that they end up with more power than some local governments.
We used to run our own HMO until one President courted a Management Company and we’ve been stuck with one company after another since. We were lucky the first Manager had a rental home in the property and he personally visited every other day. He responded quickly to complaints like a landlord. He also kept our maintenance fees lower than the surrounding complexes. However, as soon as we hired a management company our monthly fees increased by 33%. He closed his business and moved to Conroe after 15years and it’s been awful with the two companies who followed. This latest one doesn’t even respond to calls or emails and has no personal contact with anyone except to complain. Our President had to fight with them to pay for my shattered window replacement that was caused by a pebble from the landscapers’ leaf blower. It took months to be finally reimbursed and at first the Mgmt company refused to take responsibility saying the windows were our responsibility. The fees keep increasing each year and our services and landscaping decreases. They just brought us in line with their other properties and regularly charge “assessments” as much as $200/month on top of our regular fees. We were 4 years with the last one and as soon as it was finished our regular monthly maintenance fees rose. I was paying more for my maintenance fees than my mortgage and there was no relief from that during Covid whatsoever. A nightmare.
I say I am a native Texan, and I love it here. But if you hate it in Texas, all I can say is MOVE
Not very niceeeee 😢
If Texas sucks, Texas sucks. I can confirm a lot about Texas sucks, like a lot of places. Accept it.

They sound like liberals.
Texas is hot and boring.
Townes Van Zandt said it years ago "the thing about Houston is, it ain't the heat, it's the humanity". Spot on.
I’m born and raised in Houston and love it. It is more affordable here than most places. We also have Southern hospitality and I’ve not experienced someone not acknowledging me when I walk in to a coffee shop, restaurant or retail store. Power bills are outrageous? Wow, I think that one is on you, sir. I negotiated a great rate. Traffic is far worse in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, etc. We also don’t have a state tax which is nice and we are a diverse city with a great night life, top notch restaurants and fun things to do. Melting chapstick? If you are in the north, it would be frozen chapstick or other things. Houston is awesome and an hour or so from the Gulf of Mexico. There is so much to love and see throughout Texas, so come visit!!
I live in Houston unfortunately. Houston is not a travel city. The construction and horrible humidity and heat make Houston a miserable place to live.
It does get hot and humid (hard to live here without AC), pollen is bad and does flood in some areas but not everywhere, I live in a old four bedroom house and my electric bill is on average $265-$365 in the summer not $600, most of my friends and family only pay about $100-$150 for electricity, I have seen on rare occasions possums, squirrels, racoons, armadillos, turtles, snakes and big and small birds but I have never seen wild hogs in Houston and I'm about to be 54 and live in a mostly unincorporated part of Houston, I use to live in the inner part of the city when I was younger and only seen birds and squirrels there.
I understand how you feel! Because, I turned down my opportunities to move there twice! Once in 1992 and again in 2006! I always believed that Houston were the ‘bomb city’ that you could go there have a great time and live there! However, I had to remember that it is still TEXAS! Houston and Dallas, along with New Orleans has more than its fair share of troubles!
I live in Seattle and moving to Houston soon. I was born and raised in Louisiana so Texas is nothing I can't handle. I really miss the heavy rain and thunderstorms.
but why? what's wrong with Seattle?
@@yukon666 too much homelessness, people high on fentanyl and herion in the streets which the police do nothing about it. Also its too overly progressive and I do not want to raise kids here. Mind you I am apart of the LGBT Community, but I do not support the idea of kids Transitioning under 17 years old and they teach these behaviors in Is their elementary schools and I damn sure don't want to raise me and my bf future kids in such environment. Idk why everyone hates on Houston drivers. I learned to drive in Houston at 15/16 and love driving there. Always add 10-15 mph to the speed limit. If you complain about Houston drivers, it’s cuz you can’t hack it and Tulsa, OK is more your speed. Houston is massive in size and people don’t have all day to drive leisurely.
If you wanna go slow, stay in the right lane, take the bus, or move some place else.

Houston used to be a good City back in the 80’s and 90’s but now it’s horrible. One thing you didn’t mention is how much racism goes on in Houston it’s really bad not to mention the high crimes. I noticed that Houston got really bad when folks from Louisiana came here from hurricane Katherina a lot never went back to Louisiana and stayed in Houston but then crimes drastically increased.

I was born and raised in Texas, and you couldn't pay me to move to Houston. Well over half of the population of Houston most likely come from out of state, if you want to retire in Texas it is a big state central, or West Texas are places to look into. Just remember many of the families in these places have roots that go back a hundred years, or more far more, and men there have strange ideals about land, fences, shotguns, daughters, and the family Blue Healer.(Not necessarily in that order).A man I know got tired of seeing the Metro-plex slowly creep across the country side towards his home, so he sold out and bought a ranch five countries farther West .One day he was going around his fence ,and met his neighbor doing like wise ,they got to talking, and he ask "You have much trouble with cattle thieves around here"and the neighbor said "Haven't had no trouble seine Grampa and the boys hung three of them back in nineteen twenty-four Texas is not just Houston.By the way put yor water heater in your garage, and use copper lines ,and your AC behind your house.
Thank you Jill. I enjoyed your commentary. I'm a born and raised Texan. I agree with everything, my worst is allergies. I am highly allergic to the red ants too. They leave wholes in my skin like a spider bite. What helps though is when you get stung, put the green rubbing alcohol on it right away. It somehow neutralizes the poison. You might have to repeat rubbing every 15 minutes but after 1 day of that it's like a skeeter bite and doesn't cause a scar. It also helps with the itching too. Another thing, if you have sugar ants coming in your kitchen, get some sidewalk chalk and draw a line where they're coming in at. They will not cross a chalk line. Always make sure to empty any standing water after a rain. It takes less than a week after a rain for mosquito larvae to start. Property Tax varies from zip code. Y'all live in one of the highest rated tax entities. And I know from previously working for a process server, Harris County can buy your property to expand the roads. (Condemnation Dept) It's been my experience that the majority of cases get paid 1/3 of their value. Also, Harris County is in so much debt they are dependent upon grants to budget. Originally when beltway 8 was built, they said there would be no toll after it was completed. To stick to there word they sold the beltway to another company and now we are still paying. For me to take the beltway to I-45 to go back to my hometown it cost me $7.50 in toll fees round trip and you still have so much traffic that you can't go over 30 mph. I look forward to hearing more. New Subscriber!

We moved to Texas, north east of San Antonio, in 2000. We left last year for many of the reasons you mentioned. We had planned to retire there but we couldn't afford the property taxes. The mosquitos made me stay inside from May to Oct. I was eaten alive the second I went outside. It takes for ever to get anywhere and the traffic just became over whelming in every way. There are many great things about Texas but for these reasons we had to leave.

1st mistake: You moved to Houston 😅 I don't even like visiting Houston. In all seriousness though just found your channel and i am digging the content so far. 👍
We have been here over 10 years, I don't think the service is any more or less here than in other places. Sadly, I just don't think as many people care anymore about offering good service. When you see good service, you know it's a differentiator. I also don't think the utility bills are higher than they are in other large cities in other states (NY, IL, CA). I will agree it defies logic to mount a water heater in the attic. Our home in CA had it in the same place too.
Great information. Good show!
As someone who was born and raised in Houston, I have all kinds of issues with this video. I feel like someone from Idaho posting videos on Living in Houston, Texas should really engage with a native Houstonian. This is definitely a non-native Houstonian perspective.

I also lived for several years in Fort Worth, New York City and Seattle. I studied abroad in Dubai and Moscow. So, you can agree with him and his wife till you’re blue in the face, but I’ve lived all over the US and abroad. That said, I lived in Houston for 18 years and know the city well. I grew up in the loop and went to high school in Sugar Land. I know what I’m talking about Henry. And for the record, this video is about living IN HOUSTON, not other cities. So I don’t know why someone should leave Houston and experience how other people live in other cities to be better informed to talk about Houston. Lay off the beers dude.
Yep. Nailed it.
@@Michael-kf7gm you like Houston more than Seattle and NYC?
@@AzureKite191 Each of the 3 cities have their own appeal. I was born and raised in Houston so it will always feel more like home. Seattle is more scenically beautiful and NYC has an energy unlike any place else. But both Seattle and NYC are insanely expensive. That said, all 3 cities have their perks. If money weren’t an issue, my favorite city is San Diego.
I'm not moving to Texas, but, ya all are great. Totally enjoyed this video.
if you are not moving here then back off ,weisting our time
😂😂😂@@pathtovortex
I hope Texans never flood our great states.
I'm thinking of moving to Houston, very insightful video, thank you!
do yourself a favor and don't move here. I did and I regret it. houston is a sewer
I didn’t realize how nice it was living Houston until I moved to NY/NJ.
I’ve never seen water heaters in the attic! Weird it’s not downstairs in the garage or a utility closet. I mean, it holds water! Why would it be in the ceiling?
Not only that but an air conditioner too???!!! Zero sense.
Also came from the northwest. This video is 100% accurate
haha yup its an adjustment fo sho!!
Are you liberal or conservative?
Notice after any rainstorm you'll hear various frogs and toads. The toads are abundant. I'd catch one whenever possible.
Keep in mind that where you guys are from has low to no humidity, but here in southeast Texas, the humidity is always present. Even in the winter.
Excellent info from you both!
Thank you for your informative videos! My daughter recently moved to Houston and has lived in So Cal and Az and she says, worst drivers she’s ever seen in Houston, lol
hey thanks so much and yes I agree its insane here 100%, anything else shock you?
@@LivinginHoustonTX Just the red fire ants! Better than scorpions, haha! We were used to lots of spiders in So Cal, and get the crazy heat and monsoons here in AZ!
You haven't been to Atlanta, have you? 😅
People can drive in Houston. See San Antonio for the worst drivers on Earth. Texas just recently got ranked by CNBC as the worst state in the country.
@@gonzalo4658 Not surprised that such a liberal organization would rank Texas so terribly😂 Wouldn’t believe a word they say!
Great video and nice home. I was born in San Antonio, and worked for IBM in Dallas, so I know hot. However, I went down to EDS in Houston for a job interview, and it was way to hot for me. LOL. Yea, scorpions, snakes, spiders, etc., I remember those. Now-a-days, Texas is not for me, but my family still lives there, including my 95 year old dad.
Texas wont be for anyone this state is really going down the drain this time; the media is catching on that this humid-sunny hellhole is best suited for mediocre drug hooked transplants and POSs and not people with common sense
Born & raised in Texas & to me the worst thing is the humidity, that's why it feels so hot!!! I will never leave though💜
I use to live walking distance to the mouth of the Columbia river in Oregon. For 4 days straight winds were clocked gusting over 120 mph at the south jetty. After 8 years we had enough. East coast calls them hurricanes, we called them winter.
Congratulations, you've single handedly convinced me not to move here anymore lol
Good
I feel like this list is pretty common among nearly all major metropolitan areas apart from the snakes and fire ants. I've lived in Ohio, North Carolina, Washington, British Columbia, and Illinois. There were snakes and fire ants in NC, but every place has their wildlife woes. WA has bears and mountain lions while OH has turkeys and coyotes.
You kind of gotta pick your poison lol
you can fix the water heater and air conditioner drain Problem by typing it to the outside. do not pipe it to your pan. That pan should be a safety pan in case it overflows.
Property taxes is significant, have to hire a company to fight it for you as HCAD laughs at you if you try to fight it yourself. High home taxes did prevent a real estate crash couple decades ago as normal people cannot afford to pay double taxes when houses double in price. BUT no state income tax, this is one reason why state income tax isn’t needed.
Cool video. Honestly most of this is not really that bad and I even like some of these things like the storms and the heat. For me, the main problem with Houston is the lack of walkability. Although once I got to know the roads, it's actually pretty easy to bike around Houston and there is a lot of shade and nice neighborhoods to bike through.
If you have AC how much is your electrical bill. 800 a month is outrageous don't you think?
@@cannotbeshaken7889 800 a month is definitely outrageous. You’d have to have a really big house or bad insulation to have a bill that high.
@@keefers84 In the video he say's his electric bill was 800-900, and that you have to keep shopping around to find the cheapest. He found another company that is cheaper, but I'm wondering how much cheaper, because even 500 is too high.
To make clay water permeable,
Get a bin style lawn fertilizer cart
and spread gypsum. It works and
it's cheaper than French drains.
Fun fact: We got cicada killers up north too, as they're everywhere.
By far the worst thing about Houston imo is the insane heat and humidity 8 months out of the year. It's brutal. Plus all the mosquitos and insects that come with it. Not fun. The traffic sucks here big time too. If you're a home-owner, property taxes suck a big one also.
I can’t even handle gnats in the northeast 😂

@@LivinginHoustonTXnow’s your chance to get out before your kids get too invested with friends & school! Houston is not worth the hype! Save your family & move to the suburbs, somewhere like Cleveland, TN!
I'm from SoCal- so of course foreigners ( anyone from out of state ) are SLOW!!! We have unwritten rules for our traffic/freeways and highways. And yes, we cannot drive in the rain to save our lives!! It's horrible.
Go back to cali
Hi, thank you for the wonderful video you gave some good points. I am interested in moving to Texas. I am from New York City so I am use to living the city life and I am a single guy so I don't have kids to worry about. For Texas which city would you recommend for a single guy who is in his upper 40's and is looking for a city which has some similarities like NYC. Just started my research for Texas, thanks for sharing I hope to learn more from your videos.
Why is your water tanks in the attic? What if it leaks?
You must be heating and cooling a 5000sqft home for a 700$ power bill. My 2000 sqft home is consistently $130/month for the last 3 years lol
Which company do you use?
The same 😊

He probably is running multiple air conditioners all day long as well. Young, healthy people are so ridiculous when they get hot .... especially white people.....they can't stand to be hot for too long they think they're too good to sweat a little bit. Stop running your air conditioner all day and all night, and maybe you'll save money. 🤡
I use Amigo Energy and get free electricity from 9pm to 7am. I leave it on 75 to 77 during the day with my sliding door open enough for my German Sheppard to go out. Am I worried about someone breaking in, no. At 7pm or 8pm I turn it down to 72 . During the heatwave, my highest bill is $160. I sleep with it at 69.
The ants you showed I call them fire ants. They made the big bad red ants to git. Treat your whole yard for ants not patches. I too am allergic to ant venom. They are some badd little suckers. You are spot on.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH JILL; GOD BLESS
lifelong texan here and you are correct on the heat. houston is by far the worst tx city to be in during the summer. and WTH are you doing for energy bill that high? should be more more than $450 max!
This was actually nice (=very informative). 😊 You two people seem so honest and real. Thanks a lot. 👍
When buying a house TX, would you recommend facing west, East, north or south due to heat? I like the sun in the morning to hit my backyard but I’m not sure how it is in TX
Ya usually the back of the house has huge tall windows. The solar screens help big time!
Depends-- I definitely want my bedroom facing East-- west side of the house is way too hot at night for sleeping.
I recommend one with huge oak trees shading your house. It makes a difference. I own two homes, one has a tree and the other does not and my AC goes crazy in the summer even with those nets on the windows. Summer sun in any direction is awful. Trees will be your best friends.
What is the external shades brand you have mentioned in the video?
Allergy - True!, Rain - fronts are a problem at times, Traffic - True!, 2hours away - cross town a very large city, Heat - True! Watch humidity!, Snakes - rare!😊 He forgot air pollution is a factor n Tropical storm are somewhat rare!😊
Your title is correct, but in the video you keep saying just "Texas" more often than specifically saying Houston. Texas isn't a small state like where you were before. Many of the things you are talking about are specific to the Houston area. This is especially when you talk about weather (regarding humidity, storms, etc). I lived in both El Paso for around ten years, and didn't experience most of the things you are talking about. The reason why that is true, is because El Paso is 750 miles from Houston. I also lived in Killeen for 3 years, and it also isn't the same as Houston.
El Paso is one of the most boring cities I've ever lived in
Houston is just a big new orleans but nothing changes the fact that Texas is the worst somewhat-relevant state in the US
@@gonzalo4658 Having lived all over the states and the world, I would not put Texas as the worse relevant state category. That honor would go to California.
@@sgtm7 fuck that lol why. Because it’s a great state? Ive never lived in California nor even visited being 19 years old but others have and they say it’s great. Weather, cuisine, tours, cruises, things to do, hiking, nature, the road, and things that aren’t told about.
I think a place is only worth visiting if it’s worth living in.
@@gonzalo4658 I actually lived in California before. I lived in 6 different states and two different countries(not counting the US) before I turned 19. More states and more countries after that age. So unlike you, I am talking about my ACTUAL experiences, rather than second hand, or from some RUclips videos,
Your wife is a gorgeous, classy lady! What a treat to have her on the show. Would love to have her perspective on more often. Also am interested in those solar screens as our house faces directly west, and really heats up during the late afternoon, early evening.
thanks so much! ok I will add her more! yes look into them they are game changers for sure!
Take his advice about home constractors. My brother was going for his 2nd home and its been almost 3 years and they still havent finished his home. Alot of shade contractors.
We moved from Santa Monica CA to the Woodlands TX and lived there for 10 years Everything you say I found to be absolutely true. Your ornamental bark will just float away in a storm, but the rolling thunder is pretty amazing.
Two things. 1.) Your wife is the best part of the video, perhaps because I can relate being a 36 year old woman. 2.) I moved to Houston from Wisconsin and you didn’t even touch on my #1 grievance: fire ants! Perhaps they’re better in Kingwood, but in SW Houston, they’re a deal breaker! Between bills from the ER and itching for months on end, they’re intolerable. I haven’t met one person who isn’t allergic to their sting. The fuckers are aggressive and are all over children’s play equipment. Must wear socks and shoes, preferably boots outside even when you spend hundreds annually to exterminate them.
18:48. ANT'S... YOU CLEARLY DIDNT listen to video the posted timestamp is where ANTs is the topic...😅
@@anjanean No I watched the video. He didn’t even skim the surface. His wife in her sing-song manner.😳🤣They’re aggressive as f$#* and “her allergy” isn’t some anomaly, it’s everyone’s experience. I haven’t met one person who isn’t allergic. Seems that what she described IS the reaction, but far worse. I mean ER visits are common. The fuckers climb on playground equipment not just nests and let’s be clear: they sting you and leave an itchy welt that lasts for 4-8 weeks and that’s AFTER they swell up the entire extremity they stung, give you hives and ooz days later. If you didn’t grow up with these things, their “warning” would leave you ignorant. I know I was. Fire ants are THE reason I want to move. Snakes? Alligators? 😅No! The kids can’t play outside because of ants! It’s laughable as hell if you’re from the north where ants are friendly creatures.
@@jessicak4223 yeah and they're invasive. I grew up with em and man does it suck when you step on a hill without noticing. You gotta wait for the rain and the nests'll pop up
Move from Indy to Dallas and found it to be an easy transition. Moved from Dallas to Houston and was slapped with huge culture shock. I have found Houstonians to be less friendly than other areas in Texas. Houston feels like a very small town, just with a lot of ppl.
uber drivers are terrible here, they dont even talk
Moved to DFW 8 years ago and have never been to Houston and don't ever want to go there.
Sounds about right. Dallas seems like a larger version of Indianapolis. I disagree on Houston feeling like a big town. Atleast compared to Indianapolis or Dallas
it's Ghetto and I'm from North Texas, it was ghetto back in 1970's, black dudes selling cocaine in downtown then.
Exactly it is such a shithole and the air quality is bad. Dallas a sexy eclectic big city feel with just enough hip hop feel and just enough elegant feel. Whereas for Houston, it should be child abuse to raise a kid there in that polluted oxygen.
Yes you need the pan sensor for your upstairs evaporator unit. Also, pour Clorox down the exhaust pipe. You can blow existing crud out with an air compressor.
The humidity by far is the worst, it’s like living in a tropical rainforest, I’m not sure why more Toucans haven’t made their way here yet.
