Well done without a dictionary on the dial.

I know that nowadays tourbillons are mostly for show, but am I correct in my impression that taking the balance wheel out of the tourbillon entirely defeats the purpose ?

I was thinking the same thing. But it looks like they isolated the balance wheel only...the rest of the escapement assembly is still rotating.

Balance wheel is still rotating. Have a look on the coil

Thinking about the same thing too, waiting for some explanations

You may call it a semi-tourbillon. A full « whirlwind » includes both the balance wheel and the escapement to rotate about the gravity. Here only the escapement does. It is still a pretty cool movement.

Montblanc is a luxury brand without an identity. There’s nothing tying their designs together and no story to tell.

You can thank current Richemont CEO Jerome Lambert for that. Prior to him, MB had a pretty clear design identity (TimeWalker, Star, Nicolas Rieussec). Lambert arrived and copies a bunch of JLC designs but with compromises (due to using ETA/Sellita movements).

Honestly, from the thumbnail I thought I was looking at a AP Code 11.59.
