    Try the same exercise in ACC. The default setups are quite good in that game and you will not squeeze 2+ seconds out of a setup in ACC. A big advantage for the game since it makes it more accessible for folks without skills in setups.

    • @Ermz

      I greatly appreciate that the devs in ACC go through the trouble to do that. Also to output telemetry for MoTec. Both very cool things other devs can learn from.

      I love GT3 and ACC is gaining my attention. I'm tired of iRacing's system and prices. I hope the devs put more attention on issues like fps drops and collision system.

      @@FerJitsu8 ACC has many qualities and is arguably the best GT3 sim right now. But the developers have unfortunately neglected the online side ever since release, with many basic features still missing. Still, some of the best and most rewarding online race can be experienced with ACC, when you end on a good server :-)

      Not only ACC gives you good setups out of the box, they aren’t “broken” in any way and there haven’t been any weird setup exploits on ACC, And it’s not like setup doesn’t matter there because of that, of course it does but it requires a lot of work and understanding what car needs rather than applying same things that are known to work and give outright speed for all tracks,
      Shame that FFB took different path and is more tamed power steering rather than more raw like in other sims, I personally like it but many don’t and they dislike the sim because of that fact alone

    This is one of the biggest issues with sim racing and why I hate complicated car setups. PC2 was the same way, unrealistic setup gave the best hot lap. Everyone should follow ACC's example with meaningful setups to choose from for each car and track. AND NO LOOPHOLES! I don't mind tweaking setups but making them from a crappy default is not realistic.

      Amen. Expected ACC to be okay when I bought it to check it out. But it just does everything right so I stopped playing every other Sim for half a year now. Yes I loved other games with bigger car&track variety buuut the points you talking about, the great rating systen, quickjoin and CP races made me a total fanboy. And jeez those grafics and soundsystem that´s immersion on a 48"screen and wiith 7.1 headphones..

    Simracing for almost 2 decades and never ever have i made a setup. I know it is important but i just don't care. I am not here to play car mechanic simulator. Luckely lots of games have a option to load setups from "my mechanics" :D Also i don't care about leaderboards and with the best setup i will still be in between the midfield and a lucky win. Still having fun though :)

    The Metal Moro AJR is a real, Brazilian Endurance Series car. It is done by a well respected metal works, and racing car engineer and maker from Southern Brazil.
    That car won the Brazilian Endurance Series in 2018 and 2019.
    Nice video. Setups can do a world of difference when you are trying to tame a racing machine.

    I'm glad you explained that removing the camber and aero completely on rFactor 2 is a physics bug in that sim, because it went pretty hard against what I've learned about setting up cars in the 22 years I've been tinkering. That said, Developing a setup per car/track becomes a necessity after you start really getting into trying to cut consistent, quick laps.
    What I think most people have to learn who are just starting out with setups is that your first and main goal is to set up the car to be predictable, comfortable, and consistent. Unless you're exclusively a hot lapper, you want your car to react the same on lap 1 as it does on lap 10 and so on, and you want to run at about 85-90% that whole time with a difference of no more than .3 seconds lap by lap (unless you're continuously improving, but then you're not maintaining 85-90%).
    Most people (including myself when I first started) think that you change setups to make the car faster. In the end, that should be what happens, but it's because once you push past that 90% it's easier to find the limit without going over. When I'm working my setups, I don't expect to gain more than maybe .4 seconds by the time I make my car predictable. Once I know what I'm working with, I start factoring in my own driving style and what I would need to be quicker, usually in the part of the track where I feel I lose the most time. That's when I move ever so slightly away from comfort and predictability, and start "building speed" into the car. The difference is that I'm working from a setup that I know I can use as a baseline catered to my comfort, so the adjustments I make will produce results that I should be able to adapt to quickly.
    Last thing I'll say is that unless you're using a preset/shared setup, building a setup for a car is not something you can effectively do in just a few laps around a track. And even in using downloaded setups, to get it where it works well for YOU will take some time, unless your driving style is almost identical to the person who made the setup. I tend to use up 1 - 2 hours making a setup I'm happy with, and I do hot lap stints, 5 lap stints, 10 lap stints, and depending on what I'm setting up for, even full fuel runs to learn what the car wants to do and what I need to adjust.

    Thanks for using RF2, I like you have it as my main sim. There is an awesome Global Endurance Series MOD just released for it. You should do a review. WEC and the FIA complained and they had to rename as it was called the FIA WEC 2019/2020 mod. Spent all weekend endurance racing it and the BOP is excellent, the cars are as good as it gets and the liveries are excellent. I have run the Rebellion car (trying to stick it to Alonso in the Toyota Gazzoo car) the Furry GT3 as well and the Porka RSR. Terrific MOD that yet still highlights the greatness of RF2. I agree with some of the posters here, I hate setups. I am a driver not a Crew Tech. Very grateful to Kunos for the ACC setups and I am hoping that the RF2 guys update the sim and add new base setups. RF2 is on TV as you say in many leagues. This would not be the case if it couldn't not hold up to far newer titles. An obvious tip of the cap to the king of sim racing. RF Pro that we cannot have.

    Now that the Hards on AMS2 are quite known, it should be fixed soon, i hope.
    To add to the video (and on my previous comments), setups become important with some experience, i think it's better (if you're a beginner) to learn the cars / tracks, and become at ease when you're driving, then setups are relevant. There's also the leaderboard series, by trl limitless, where he tries to break some world records, and he gives very good advices, for him, setups are about 1 to 2.5 sec overall, so pretty close to Ermin here. Thanks for the video again, the quality is superb!

    Setup is very inportant, im a active sim racer everyday, i literally change everything and as racers we all know having perfect gearing, lowest the car will take and the stiffest it will allow for better cornering on most tracks is best, Most of the time without the car being undrivable, And i agree rf2 is my favourite for pure driving, but i can not stand the waiting times and ui with the cars, i mean i don't know where any of the csrs go sometimes lol, good vid 👍💯🏁

  • @chuckystang

    Why is it certain cars in RFactor2 handle all wrong, I mean non driveable. Is it a set up issue? I like many have no idea what I am doing tweaking the setups but take the C6R that comes as a free vehicle, the front tires break traction at all times while turning and gives for not only extremely poor performance but can be felt in very odd FFB effects. The wheel will go light as you turn left or right and does not matter the circumstances. The only time you will not get this is while in pit lane at very slow speeds. I have tried checking for obvious issues with my wheel or FFB settings but now that I have done all that and still problem persists, I am convinced it must be just a dud default set up. Is there a location where one can easily obtain someone else's set ups and just load them and give them a shot? Thanks

    • @chuckystang
      @chuckystang 4 года назад

    • @whysoslow1999
      @whysoslow1999 4 года назад

      @@chuckystang If you want to make rF2 cars drive more realistically, yes, you do need to adjust the setup as the default setups are often shit. Like -2 camber on the rears in a GT3 car; should be closer to -3.5, or even -4
      but to be fastest, he shows that in the video :p

    More downforce doesn't directly mean better car, what you want is balanced downforce! Maybe the stock setup have more front downforce than rear and that's what makes the car oversteer!

    • @whysoslow1999
      @whysoslow1999 4 года назад +2

      Yes. His point is; In a lot of sims, you need to use an unrealistic setup, such as this one, to go fast.
      AMS2, PC2, rF2 are extremely bad about this. iRacing also has some problems, like minimum tyre pressures being faster, although they have been upping the minimum pressures to reasonable values. Although, for example ACC, there arent many exploits to be found in the setup and you wont find THAT much time with them anyway.

  • @aledmb
    @aledmb 4 года назад

    I don't get it. You load the default setup, make at least 4 big driver mistakes in your timed lap, tell me to keep your laptime for reference and then go to the garage to make the car better? You just need a better baseline time before heading to make setup changes. That's lesson number one in car setup.

  • @fdeutschs

    Was not expecting to see these kind of physics/setups loopholes in rF2 and on a car modeled by Studio397. Does it happen only on this car or there is something similar with the GT and Endurance pack cars?
    I remember something similar with the USF2000 car in terms of running the lowest tyre pressures and wing in order to be fast and with no consequences.

      It depends on the rule makers of the series. Some are strict, some not so much. CART could of penalized that move if they wanted to. CART rules were CART rules and does not apply to all racing series.
