i live near bristol in and i also used to live their 13 years ago in the st george/hanham area in the north east of the city! most of that part of the city is residential but each area has its own high street but most of the time i just went into the city centre 😂
St Paul's Easton, Southmead and Lockleaze are far more dodgy than any of the areas featured here and the first two at least have a lot going for them. The idea that Kingsdown ( outside maybe of Stokes Croft which is a law onto itself and nobody in Bristol would class as Kingsdown anyway) is some kind of crime ridden hell hole is hilarious. The majority of it is pretty posh.
Lockleaze, I lived there for a year too 😂 absolutely awful, just out on it's arse, dilapidated as fuck and nothing to do. Of all of the places I lived in Bristol that's the one I fucking hated.
Yeah, I think he's confused about a lot of things. While talking about how rough Kingsdown was, he was showing clips of St Paul's so I think he confused the two
I've been a delivery rider for 5 Years in Bristol and regularly delivered to many of the tower blocks and areas listed here and been out late partying 4 to 6 am sometimes I never had any trouble... I have witnessed a fair few assaults but it has always involved intoxicated people looking for trouble... Imo a truly dangerous area is where trouble finds you whether you look for it or not. Compared to townships of South Africa or the Favellas of Brazil Bristol and the UK is very safe indeed
Not really who we want to be comparing ourselves against though is it. Lets focus on becoming a truly safe place rather than not being a truly dangerous one.
Yeah I totally agree, I used to live in Bristol and go back to visit friends there often. Never felt unsafe. I think violent crime statistics are skewed in a way with criminals being at war with each other. If you’re just a normal person and not involved in anything you’re unlikely to get into any ruckus.
@@crintondux cool story bro so you are everywhere at once are you? 😂 stop separating people from the truth it's a shit hole full of drugs and knife crime.
I was surprised by the stats for the areas you showed, as having lived in Bristol since the late ‘80s, and worked there as a police officer, I’d say Hartcliffe is the only one I’d agree with. Certainly the reality for Bedminster, Kingsdown, Temple Meads and the City Centre is very different to that which you portray.
I'm shocked that Easton, formerly known as the stabbing capital of the UK, and St Pauls didn't feature on this list. I guess the crimes there go more unreported with less police presence. With the infamous 'crack alley' and 'turbo island' in the Stokes Croft/St Paul's area and the number of abandoned houses and crack heads shouting in the streets I always felt it was much more dangerous that the rest of Bristol when I lived in the city.
@@francesbelle7734 all you have to do is google stapleton road to see it's reputation for stabbing. I personally know someone who was stabbed to death in Easton. Just because someone's experience is different to yours doesn't mean they are wrong. Perhaps you are the one who needs to ditch your preconceptions and pay attention. I'm not slagging off Bristol, I love the place, that doesn't mean you can't point out some of it's flaws.
bristol born and bread, and i can assure you most of this info is false, city center unless its a Friday or Saturday night its tame as fuck, most of your footage of Bedminster is just one tiny little area of Bedminster, you mention kingsdown for the most part kingsdown is just stokes croft until you get further into the posh more well off point then its kingsdown, hartcliffe where im from, i can assure you is as bad as it looks and again take it from me its worse than any of the areas mentioned, you called the are before the center temple meads its not that temple meads has a high crime rate its just right on the door step of bedminster which is basically redcliffe as well and again these three areas all back onto the city centre, all im saying is there are so many areas worse the only one i agree with is hartcliffe
I looked at this video to reminisce and see some areas I particularly liked. I've frequented all of these regularly as I've lived and worked amongst all of them here. I have no idea what anyone's expectations of inner city life is, but the images you've managed to focus on are what a lot of people may see as negative e.g. derelict buildings, tower blocks and graffiti. I particularly like these kind of places as well as the 'prettier' side of the city; however, if you don't show both sides it's totally out of context and could look grim to many. I know what the video is about, but the dialogue in some parts are an exaggeration . Telling people who alight from Temple Meads not to hang around or turn a wrong corner. Jesus, it's not a war zone. Do yourselves a favour and visit Bristol, you'll have an awesome time. Friendly people and great times to be had. If you're not involved in the shadier side or don't act like a dick, you'll be fine.
Oof trashed my dialogue 😀it’s all good, a bit of dry humour on my part and this is all still new to me. I’m not trying to put anyone off going to Bristol, and I don’t expect the tourist board to pick this video up! It’s intentionally one-sided, these are statistically the five highest crime areas in Bristol which was of interest to me, and backend analytical data from YT confirms it’s of interest to a wider audience. While nicer areas are not.
@@ukexplored Apologies mate. My language is a bit strong there. Don't get me wrong the footage is brilliant (I personally liked that side of the city) just worries me some people may be put off from a good experience. If people can't get out of Temple Meads in one piece, then there's not much hope for them 😂 I did enjoy the dry humour and I commend you backing it up with stats 👍🏻 The video and delivery of narrative is exceptionally good.
As someone who lives in Bristol u couldn’t be more accurate I’ve been to all these places day and night and most of the time there stunning and pretty chill (except stokes Croft we don’t talk about that.)
@@Fenellamcclean I worked and socialised around Stokes Croft for seven years from 2004 -2011 and lived there for the last few years. I saw a lot of changes in that short time. It's now almost unrecognisable from when I first visited the area. A few clubs and pubs have since gone. I do like the area a lot but there's less of a 'local' vibe to it now and businesses seem to go as soon as they pop up. St. Paul's has also lost many good pubs too. I would say they were my favourite areas to hang out when I was there. Entertaining in many ways to say the least.
People always say US is dangerous but I’m from Las Vegas. Been living in Uk few months and haven’t felt safe this whole time. Police are no where to be seen and there’s always someone shady lurking nearby
I dunno... that muggy be because you're out of your comfort zone, if you consider 2pac drive by shooting I believe more police presence on foot wouldn't of made a massive difference, yes that's only 1 famous case of cause, but I'd anticipate if you consider the crimes in the casinos it would shoot up
@@ariescustom Ok, school is tough alright. Worst time of my life was high school. However once you make it past that stretch you're in the clear assuming you don't live in some ghetto. If you can keep your wits about you, you can make more money in the US than the UK. And money buys protection.
@@ProudAmerican111 Whereas we don't need to buy "protection" here, plus we get good holidays with pay and free healthcare so we can get ill without ending up in a lifetime of debt. 😉
I live just outside Bristol and have been to most of the areas featured, I don't think it's all as bad as portrayed here eg if you go to places like Temple Meads or the shopping centre around Cabot Circus in the daytime they feel completely safe, 90% of the crimes probably occur later on in the evening/night time. Having said that I would never want to go into St Pauls (not featured in the video), I think most crime there is undetected as the police don't want to go there.
Lived in Bedmo, Redcliffe, St Werbs, Easton and now settled in Montpelier and maybe it's just me but I've never come across anything I would consider violent except places like Broad Quay on the weekend late at night which can get quite rowdy (fountains, bnb, millenium square, pryzm, v-shed etc). Stokes sort of "feels" like its gotten a bit worse to be honest over the years, mainly due to just rowdy students, but hey, I walk through it every night coming home and don't get hassled. I've walked home to the above locations consistently around 2-4am a few times a week (gigs, lash, late work etc) and never once have I got into any trouble. Any serious fighting I've ever seen has been some goof stepping to the wrong shit or some absolute cod being obnoxious and ticking off the wrong people. Feel like a lot of people who feel unsafe in Bristol are the muppets moving from richer areas paying 450,000 for a 2 bed in Bedmo then having an anxiety attack when they walk past some young'ens donning some North Face as they google maps the nearest Laura Ashley, which in all honest is their insecurity, not safety. No, it's not the "safety" you would feel in certain cities, but there is a sense of precaution some people just have. You need to get used to it in any Urban Area as condensed as Bristol.
Right well try and tell that to all the knife crime and sexual assult victims Bristol is a shit hole the stats talk for them selfs every week some times more than that some is stabbed antisocial behaviour and drug dealing and robberies is out of controll
I appreciate you used the official crime statistics, but I'm an older gentleman who walks with a cane, and I lived in Charles Street at the bottom of Stokes' Croft for five years and never had any worries about the locals. I grew up in South London, and those streets would deserve the grim portrait you've painted here, but Bristol is one of the safest cities I've ever been in for sure. For the most part it's a small number of individuals with an extremely high number of crimes attributed to each. In Stockwood where I live, there's one house that's responsible for 90% of the crime, according to the official stats. So it's not always representative of an area. As long as you don't live next door to them, you probably won't have problems. Certainly Bedminster might be a place to be a little wary at night among the tower blocks, but in the day it's a safe as houses. Same for all the other locations, bar maybe Hartcliffe, and again you'd need to be deeply inside an unfamiliar estate to be in real trouble. I've visited mates all over the city in tower blocks and never had anything more than a casual look over by the local youts. Same as in south London, if you know the name of the blocks and can name a resident you're not going to get fucked with. If you went into an estate trying to buy a ten bag though, you might get a different experience. It's common sense really. That said, I don't wave a phone or camera about in dodgy places, so if you were getting the eye that's probably half of it. Safety is subjective. Generally though Bristol is full of absolutely lovely people, there's a fairly minimal number of scrotes who are full time pains in the arse. In town it's a bunch of pissheads who are responsible for the majority of violent crime, and shoplifters abound anywhere they can get away with it. Since the police don't do much, they've been emboldened. That's all. You must have grown up with a silver spoon in your mouth to find Bristol threatening, to be honest.
I grew up and lived in various parts around and in Bristol from 1981-2018. It was great in the 1980's, 1990s' and first half of the 2000's but then it started getting gentrified (like a lot of cities around this time) and then started to become full of pretentious 'cool' people from London. You stopped seeing people you knew and the whole city is just unrelatable. The city centre has been declining for the last 15 years, its overrated and overpriced. Bedminster was seen as a shit hole, Bradley Stole soulless and Brislington full of people with names like Rupert, Jacinta and Freddy the fucking cat. Stokes Croft was dodgy but that's where a lot of the Alternative venues were in the 2000's. Old Market was always seen as Seedy and had quite a lot of Adult Shops and Gay Saunas. Bristol is getting more dodgy because the scum of London are moving there.
Interesting, thanks, the one thing I didn't think would be an issue - boundaries/areas - keeps coming up. Google, Apple, the local councils all seem have different opinions on where areas start and finish, the police also split their stats and policing areas differently often splitting areas.
Bedminster is a big area, with sub areas such as Southville, Ashton, Ashton Gate, Ashton Vale, South Street, Chessels, Windmill Hill, around St. John's Lane and East St areas are classic Bedminster. All are BS3. I went to Southville Primary school and I was taught to write my home address as Southville, Bedminster
I used to visit a friend who lived in a student shared accommodation in Temple Meads and it was terrifying at night. It was like something out of a movie at weekends, you could hear police and ambulance sirens all night, kids would set stuff on fire and hang out in groups, I just don't get why the local authorities don't do more to make the residents feel safe.
Temple meads is near the centre which has an A road going through it which forks off to different areas of south Bristol, there’s an Ambulance station and Police station within half a mile so that would explain the emergency traffic. I’m from Bristol and it’s pretty grim but that’s for mostly different reasons. Pathetic RUclips channels like this are the lowest common denominators for people to speculate.
Spent a lot of time around Kingsdown what with working near the area for almost seven years and knowing locals who lived around there; Carolina House being one of the places I frequented. Never had any trouble. It's lively that's for sure but on the whole pretty safe to me. Looks a lot worse than it is. Safer than some of the estates north and south of the city.
‘Safe’ is subjective. I read through reports and some comments on forums where people described it like living in hell and having to move out of the area. Sure, there are worst areas, but there are also plenty of areas where that’ll never happen. Plenty of decent hard working people live there too, I’m sure.
I've lived in Hartcliffe my entire life and have never once felt unsafe. It can get violent at times. But it tends to be consensual violence. The local herberts do seem to enjoy the odd dust up.
Wow. You’ve really gone to town on Bristol!!! I’ve lived i Bristol all my life and live and work in bedminster, city centre and temple meads areas. It’s nowhere near as bad as you say. Granted the graffiti is a problem and you can’t get away from the crime stats. However as someone in my late 40s who regularly goes out night and day in half the areas and has done for years, I can probably count on both hands how many serious crimes I’ve witnessed. If you mind your own business and stay on the right side of the law, you’re pretty much ok. In the main people are courteous and friendly. Some of your filming is of the same street/places over and over again. You’ve even got footage of the outside of a friend’s house which was during a time when they were gutting and renovating it (trying to portray fly tipping). The old pub and building around temple meads by the flats have been derelict for over 15 years or more. You mention it’s probably only recent and deteriorated quickly because of how rough it is around there which is non sense. The low property prices around this area is because it’s all flats and no houses not because of how deprived the area is. Some of the buildings that are empty are because of the extortionate fees charged by the council and landlords making it difficult for businesses to survive. But there do and they are. I could go on and I hope people pay no attention to your unfair and imbalanced portrayal of Bristol.
I know you've gone by stats, which are generally irrefutable but having lived in Bedminster for the past 6 years, the picture painted by the stats couldn't be futher from my subjective experience. Interesting to see though.
Yeah, I try to point out when the stats are skewed, like to car crime in bedminster if I remember correctly, but the stats do only tell part of the story. I appreciate when people who live in the areas speak up with some real truths, that’s always helpful.
@@crystalken I dunno, east street is not somewhere i would walk alone at night, it used to be such a nice place too. North street is ok but that's more ashton gate
@@kimstockwell721 East Street is a freakshow but it's not scary. I used to love a Miss Millie's then a trip to Cash Converters to check out all of the latest robbed gear 😂 Heroin was rife on the estates back in the day, so many of my friends ended up smackheads 😔 Not sure what the drug of choice is now but I don't think as many people are out on the rob like it used to be.
The figures for Bedminster are slightly skewed by the fact that Southville is included in the BS3 area. The influx of monied Londoners and their like to the area has pushed up house prices and where there's money there is bound to be crime.
I was brought up in Hartcliffe, went to school in Withywood and then lived in Bedminster, but moved about 35 years ago. I simply don’t remember it like this at all. Bedminster was thriving, we used to be so excited about getting the bus from ‘Ard”cliffe to spend our pocket money in Bemmy.
Hartcliffe was always had a rather rough reputation I need to add though, when I meet a Bristolian and tell them I was brought up in Hartcliffe I think they expect me to hit them. Can I add I do rather enjoy and appreciate the beauty of a Titian painting !!
I live in Bedminster and people tend to keep to themselves mostly and won't bother you. Although there is alot of crackheads. There is only one small area called redcliffe next to which is sketchy af and I nearly got jumped but it hasn't been as bad these last few years
I would not agree with the video and how you named the areas. I’m Bristolian and lived in Bristol for a long time. The places you named and then showed on the video are not the same as how they are known. I think you may have got your info from voting ward boundaries? Stokes Croft is part of St Pauls, an area that you didn’t mention but well known to be very dodgy to walk through. As is Lawrence Hill and Easton. You’ll not be hassled in Bedminster (your car may be a target at night). The city centre itself is fine. Broadmead shopping centre (near the centre) is awful and full of street drinkers. Basically, if you put a pin in Broadmead and drew a line east you would hit St Jude’s, at Pauls, Stapleton Road and Easton. They are the places you would feel venerable and not want to go. IMO.
I walked from stokes croft to stapleton rd every tuesday lunchtime from work. To a school rmto volunteer. I felt 100 per cent safe. Sensationalist vid.
I was born there in 89 and lived there 30+ years those are some of the areas I always felt most safe! Social housing is no more dangerous than any where els. I grew up in Easton and have seen multiple murders and been robbed more times than I can count . Gentrification has changed that some what but I suggest you take a walk down Stapleton road of an evening if you really Wana know what it feels like to be unsafe , especially if your not a man.
Having lived here for 15 years I'd say the idea that Bedminster is one of the most dangerous places in Bristol is completely laughable. Its one of the most gentrified areas in the city with some of the fastest rising house prices in the entire UK. Those crime numbers must be skewed by including parts of Knowle or Bishopsworth or be entirely made up of petty minor crimes. You're more likely to be run over by a young mother with a skinny chai latte on North Street than ever see a fight. Similarly I'm amazed Easton didnt make the list. I worked there for five years and the area around Stapleton Road was rife with muggings, gang fights and a couple of murders. Maybe it's changed since then but in the winter it was always a pretty unpleasant commute
Yeah, I just went with the official crime stats as if I went with my own opinion I’d get way more people telling me I have it all wrong. At least now we can blame the way the police collate their crime stats. Although I’d my memory serves me correctly I explained why bedminster featured so highly.
I’ve spent plenty of time in Bristol at night, often after gigs or club nights, and I’ve NEVER had any issues. A guy got mouthy with me on the Glos Rd once, about 22yrs ago I think, but that’s it, and he was proper hammered 🤷🏼♂️
@@badmindsandgangsigns746 Local here. He's right. This video paints a false picture. Nowhere in Bristol is unsafe if you know how to be on the streets. Not even Easton. Lived there for several years. Just avoid that little so-called park by Lebeqs traffic lights. Why people still walk through there is a mystery.
Yes, myself and a lot of the comments thought the same. That's why I did a separate video on St Paul's recently and tried to explain why I thought it wasn't on this list, even though it's clearly very dangerous there today.
I lived in Bristol (Whitchurch) before moving to Australia and found that the violence you've referenced existed mostly around the Centre's pubs on the weekend. I only encountred violence on one occasion and it was easily overcome with the assistance of other patrons of the pub I was visiting - (I believe it was the 'Rummer').
Can we get a top 5 most multicultural areas in bristol video please? that would be awesome some footage of Easton, St pauls ,Stokes croft, Eastville/fishponds ,St judes/Red cliffe ect would make a good video
The reason you saw homelessness in kingsdown is because right next to the park you put your drone up is a hostel for homeless people. Its why they tend to hang around in the park right next to it. And i hate to nitpick but the shop you showed in kingsdown monicas is the road i live on and it actually cotham not kingsdown.
Nitpicking is fine, different maps seems to border smaller areas within cities differently and I get stuff like this pointed out a lot, I’m sure you’re right, but it’s surprising how often locals are wrong too about borders.
Exactly just quoting stats and walking round an area with a bias formed by those stats without any attempt to put any content into the conclusions drawn is quite frankly dumb and irresponsible.
Temple Meads is just the name of the station. Bath City Council calls the immediate area Temple Quarter, but no one I know talks about Quarters, unless it's Four Quarters bar on Park Street. The area behind the station is mostly referred to as St Philips. Opposite the station it's Redcliff(e) north of The Cut and Bedminster on the south side.
Thanks. I get different borders and area outlines depending on which map I’m using, or if I’m using the police crime map, you’d think it would be clearly defined.
Yes,the only problem (if it is) is that all the creatives from London move into an area with an exciting dodgy vibe and in a year it's full of coffee shops and sourdough bakeries and to be honest no one really misses the dodgy vibe especially if you're that young Dad with a baby + two toddlers meeting your equally creative mates in the coffee shop on Sunday so your creative wife can have a lie in.

Two of the flats I have ocupied are featured here. One in Bedminster and one in Temple Meads. The 'recently empty' properties in Temple Meads have been empty for at least 20 years and are zoned for redevelopment. It's no worse than many other city areas. Southmead is the only place I refuse to go .. that is scary.
I lived in Bristol on and of for years this video is a bit much. Bristol is s safe place as long as you conduct yourself well and treat others like you want to be treated yourself. There is problems like anywhere just as cool and your be sweet 😊
I'm based near Bristol - some of this surprises me, some of it doesn't. I haven't seen much trouble in Kingsdown - admittedly it is very polarised, the bulk of it (probably two-thirds) consists of pretty affluent inner suburban roads - the bit closest to Stokes Croft is dodgy. The main central area (round Broadmead) has really gone to rack and ruin over the last few years, with a lot of shops now boarded up and many people sleeping rough. Broadmead itself will be closing down within the next 18 months (it's being demolished & replaced with flats and offices) so it will likely get worse before it gets better. Temple Meads probably has such a big issue with crime because it's sandwiched between Redcliffe on one side and Barton Hill, Lawrence Hill and Easton (all areas with high crime rates) on the other. Bedminster has actually improved of late - I've walked round there at night and not seen much in the way of trouble. It has benefitted from the gentrification/yuppification of surrounding areas like Southville.
Wow, looks pretty rough around there. I wonder how many of those kitchen appliances are actually broken; someone could make a killing opening a second-hand appliance repair store :D
Visited for the first time earlier this year, absolutely loved the city, food, artwork and general vibe. Didn't get to explore too much of the city but the high amount of trtaffic in the city centre at night meant I felt safer than most cities quiet ones)
Just got home from a work trip to Bristol, I was shocked to say the least! Most areas I went to seemed dangerous, aggressive begging outside many of the shops, fighting on the street, rubbish everywhere. Only place I felt relatively safe was the pub where I was staying!
It can get crazy there, especially after dark. I went for a drink near Cabot with a friend last week and sat outside to people watch and saw some sights. The level of homelessness is particularly sad to see.
@@francesbelle7734 yeh drug dealers, people randomly demanding money off passersby and fighting seems really safe to me! Been to safer third world sh$tholes!

Great video, thanks. Please come back and show all the hundreds of barber/International supermarkets (that don't really sell anything) that are popping up all over Bristol.
They're money laundering fronts for various nationalities organised crime divisions. A bunch have popped up in Keynsham, and none of them get enough trade to justify the leases for retail units on Keynsham high street.
Bristol city fell into the hands of talentless architect's and corrupt planners since the war. Im bristol born and bred, and how bedminster made it into the top 5 il never know, they should have taken bedminster off tbh, im suprised southmead and knowle west isnt on there but more to the point why isnt Stapleton Rd on that list an absolute shit hole around there. Hartcliffe has got better overtime it still has its anti social behavior problems like everywhere else really. Ive never had any problms when going into bristols areas nothing at all. Only probs you would have is if you went looking for trouble
Interesting fact for Temple Meads. The high crime rate is because British Transport Police have an office there and record all crime on the rail network in the region to it. Massively skews the stats.
I've lived in Hartcliffe for almost 30 years, and can honestly say i've never had any real trouble living there. Most people who live there certainly don't feel deprived and have good jobs and go to college and universities. Just like anywhere in Britain, you're going to have good and bad people in both deprived and affluent areas. I'm in no way attacking you're view as it's based on government statistics, but just to possibly educate those who wouldn't go anywhere near Hartcliffe based on - what i would say, unfair criticism. It's not the best place in the world, but it's not the hell hole people make it out to be. Most people who judge Hartcliffe have never stepped foot in the area.
ive lived here all my life (I am 19) and have had knives pulled out on me a few times just for walking to Morrisons with my phone out, I've been attacked while walking to the imperial park and a lot of people I know have been through similar experiences, its getting worse around here and I don't really see why anyone would come to visit anyway.
Hartcliffe is a shit hole. And that's coming from someone who's lived there in the past (not anymore thank fuck). Just walk down to the shop by the the flats and see for yourself
I worked at Hartcliffe Boys club for a short time in the early 90s, it was rough. 7 year old kids smuggling Diamond White cider in was sad. The youth leaders were nice, however.
That's interesting to hear, I consider myself to be well traveled across the UK and I would say personally that Kingsdown is one of the worst areas I've been to. I had a number of uncomfortable interactions with people while I was there, I choose not to film those as I don't want this to become one of those channels where members of the public are exposed for the benefit of others.

Ive lived in Bristol for 20 years. Its not a rough place. Thats about it really. I drink in the town centre and there is not any trouble. Come over you will see. Its more a fun place not a rough place. We exist to enjoy ourselves here rather than trying to be hard. The trouble is the cost of rent.
This is great viewing, because you use factual data as well as clips of our City as we know it to be, as opposed to the way in which many seem to idealise Bristol (eg endless pictures of Clifton). There are a number of comments below which read as calling into question your findings and they pose interesting questions: I too am extremely surprised at a number of absences from the list (most obviously Southmead and Easton, but there are some parts of East Bristol too which I would have expected to figure). I can't help wondering whether the stats might be factually correct but possibly misleading, there might be cultural factors at play - ie very high crime areas where serious offences are routinely not even reported to the police. A 'tourist' or shopper in the City centre or Temple Meads areas is probaly far more likely to report crimes which are relatively minor compared to inter-gang violence or other drug related crimes happening elsewhere across the city. So sadly, I guess this (great) work is in fact, examination of the tip of an iceberg.
Thanks, appreciate your kind words. It’s exactly what you said, yes, and I touch on it in the video; like templemeads being due to the station, bedminster having disproportionate vehicle crime (this is all from memory), some areas not reporting many crimes, and so on. I do take into account the opinions of locals in some videos, but for the most part I use published stats as a constant.
I'm 56 and was born in Bristol and have lived here all my life. I've worked all over the city as a photocopier engineer and all this video proves is how inaccurate crime stats can be. Of all the places mentioned in the video I think Hartcliffe is the only one that might scrape into my to 10. Places I would avoid, especially at night are (in no particular order)... Southmead Lawrence Weston Lockleaze Easton Newtown Knowle West St. Pauls Barton Hill Horfield The lower end of Fishponds. Hartcliffe and Withywood would probably be the next two. Stokes Croft is more St. Pauls than Kingsdown.
Southmead is a bit on and off but lawrence weston and lockleaze and the rest of the North bristol's council estates are normally quite quiet compared to east and south bristol
broadmead is dying for sure but ironically, the oldest part of the city, crown mothers ruin to name a few venues, + all the strips through old city with boozers are packed every night even on weekdays. The market there isn't quiet during the week either.
I went to Bristol on a camping trip for three days or two nights and lots of people outside at night sing for you can hear us at night I couldn’t fall asleep and there’s lots of ambulances. It was really sketchy. I had a room that the walls was peeling and it smelled like bio it so bad that somebody was sick in my class at night on the bed, it was scary, but I was on the last night so, yeah, I really scared to go to Bristol till this day
That is a depressing image of UK, as a whole.I'm in China for a few monhs and you don't see any of this and most people live in 40 storey tower blocks-all in good condition, with no grafitti and you hardly see any police, apart from the occasional arguments you'll get anywhere. No homeless, apart from the odd occasion when some people have got mental problems, but tents are in camp sites for holidaymakers. Most people go out at night to do Line dancing, in public squares,Tai Chi, play chess, food streets etc never seen any no go areas. There'll be organised crime, but not random muggings etc
Then ignore all this. No reason to go to hartcliffe,it's so far out,but I wouldn't say avoid it. Don't go to Southmead and don't go to Oldbury Court area of Fishponds but do go to Kingsdown, wonderful vistas there. Even St Paul's is fine, lots of fine Georgian architecture there, just,if you're a man ignore any nice ladies trying to make friends with you and you'll be fine.
I've walked home through Bedminster on many a drunken night out, and not once have I come to any harm. The video you have shown paints it in a dark light . If it was that bad, then why are the house prices one of the most expensive in Bristol
@@johnywaffle1365 I think I mentioned there is really high vehicle crime there which pushed the overall crime rate up. But crime stats only tell part of the story always, but we have to go by data as a standard. Maybe you're too imposing a figure to be a victim 😁 - what could I do differently? It's a video highlighting the top 5 highest crime areas.
Bristol uni students are not the scaredy type. They are brimming over with confidence and they shit gold. That's because Bristol is reknowned as a rich kids university. If your surname is Goldsmith you go there. The shops in the vicinity tell you, look at the price tags.
Another good vid. I'd encourage you to visit Luton at some point. Appreciate the quieter music; in some of your earlier stuff it's been a bit distracting. One change I'd make going forward is to not 'stack' the headlines. I think having them appear in a list could be more effective.
It's wrong and unfair to say most of the city centre outside of Cabot Circus is a ghost town. There are other parts of Broadmead that are okay, and St Nicholas Market is thriving.
As someone who's lived in Bristol for 46 years I can say the areas listed in this video are not the most dangerous, the only rough area in this list is Hartcliffe but it's no worse than any other council estate, Bedminster is a little bit run down around the shopping areas but is one of the more expensive desirable places in Bristol, there are barely any residential properties in Temple meads, Easton and St Paul's particularly Stapleton Road are 10 times worse and I wouldn't walk there at night if I could help it. I would say though these areas and the city centre have gone down hill massively in the last few years I couldn't believe what a dump the city centre has become when I recently visited the graffiti didn't help either. If I made a list it would be St Paul's, Easton, Lawrence hill, top 3 and then either Knowle west, Hartcliffe or Southmead, or any other council estate around Bristol but there not that bad in my opinion.. (never been to Kingsdown though)
@@kimstockwell721 Same, my Dad was born in Knowle West, my Nan lived on Creswicke Road, I lived with her for a while. There were dodgy people about but you kind of mixed in your circles. If anything the sense community was far greater there than some more 'well off' areas I've lived in. I think people from South Bristol are much more straight up.
thank you for the heads up about Bristol, I’ve walked through those areas at night when I visited and had no idea about the risks being on my own intoxicated waiting for travel back in the morning, I will definitely be more cautious in the future thanks to this video
Tbh many bristol residents myself included would list different areas you should be cautious in, i think when it comes to this stats arent always the best way to rely on things. Bedminster at night is probably the only one residents would also tell you to be cautious in ( along with the city center but i thimk that applys to all citys) St pauls and easton would probably be top of residents "be cautious" lists yet they arent feature on here at all.
I live in Bristol and have lived in Bedminster and Hartcliffe. Bedminster is not a dangerous area really, more middle of the road. Hartcliffe from a reputation background is possibly the worst however in my experience in Hartcliffe most people don't report crimes for fear or reprisals. Crime statistics therefore are likely a hell of a lot higher in hartcliffe than 4th!
I used to live right near Bedminster. The local govt and cops arent interested in stopping the trafficking of women and public heroin use... In our local feedback forms we get there is no room to write about it nor any questions about either. Vote Reform to protect our kids and women!!!
Very interesting video. I don't see a problem at all with evidence of cannabis use, because I live in a country where weed is legal from shore to shore. On the other hand, I agree with most of your conclusions about the neighourhoods that you've examined. That being said, Bristol is still one of my favourite cities.
Just clocked those flats at 4:32 are from the TV show The Outlaws good series like bristol's version of top boy and dangerous round there bare drugs and gang activity
I think you've been a bit unfair to Hartcliffe. It's a mix, some parts are poorer, but plenty of normal people who work and have pride in their area live there, I would be happy to wander around there at night. Bedminster is mostly quiet. The only area of Bristol I wouldn't be comfortable walking around at night would be St Pauls, that really does have a menacing feel about it, but maybe it's changed, I haven't been there after dark for years.
they were not in the crime stats, but they are crazy areas and I've done separate videos on those two areas if you're interested ruclips.net/video/0TtU0DLt5_U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/m3FMYfwQwRk/видео.html
I went to further education for a year at Hartcliffe College, there was a burnt out car on the playing field once a week but I didn't encounter problems, even frequently walking a mile to the bus stop. Then I went to the University of the West of England in the north of Bristol for 3 years. Great city, rambunctious. I was in the early years of transitioning from male to female and was hassled a few times but overall a great place to live.

I live in Southmead and I thought it would be featured.
Did he really just compare england to south Africa 😂
Yeah I totally agree, I used to live in Bristol and go back to visit friends there often. Never felt unsafe. I think violent crime statistics are skewed in a way with criminals being at war with each other. If you’re just a normal person and not involved in anything you’re unlikely to get into any ruckus.
@@crintondux cool story bro so you are everywhere at once are you? 😂 stop separating people from the truth it's a shit hole full of drugs and knife crime.
I’m from Brazil and I agree
I was surprised by the stats for the areas you showed, as having lived in Bristol since the late ‘80s, and worked there as a police officer, I’d say Hartcliffe is the only one I’d agree with. Certainly the reality for Bedminster, Kingsdown, Temple Meads and the City Centre is very different to that which you portray.
@@francesbelle7734Oh really! What trouble have I caused?
I'm shocked that Easton, formerly known as the stabbing capital of the UK, and St Pauls didn't feature on this list. I guess the crimes there go more unreported with less police presence. With the infamous 'crack alley' and 'turbo island' in the Stokes Croft/St Paul's area and the number of abandoned houses and crack heads shouting in the streets I always felt it was much more dangerous that the rest of Bristol when I lived in the city.
Not allowed to say that 😂

You can clearly see in the kingsdown ward he went around s pauls, but ok
bristol born and bread, and i can assure you most of this info is false, city center unless its a Friday or Saturday night its tame as fuck, most of your footage of Bedminster is just one tiny little area of Bedminster, you mention kingsdown for the most part kingsdown is just stokes croft until you get further into the posh more well off point then its kingsdown, hartcliffe where im from, i can assure you is as bad as it looks and again take it from me its worse than any of the areas mentioned, you called the are before the center temple meads its not that temple meads has a high crime rate its just right on the door step of bedminster which is basically redcliffe as well and again these three areas all back onto the city centre, all im saying is there are so many areas worse the only one i agree with is hartcliffe
Thanks for the input. Obviously not being from Bristol we have to go with the stats. But its great to hear from the locals
city centre at night is safe worst thatll happen is some crackhead giving you side quests
Bristol used to thrive with factories and pubs and we see the results of extreme poverty and nothing but charity shops

"Bedmo"...why do people call it this 😢

The building at 9:37 is on the Bath Road across from Arno's Vale park. Some way from the centre. It's been vacant for decades.
Old Remploy building.
Bristol is getting more dodgy because the scum of London are moving there.
just a heads up, you use a lot of footage from southville when in the bemmy area.
Interesting, thanks, the one thing I didn't think would be an issue - boundaries/areas - keeps coming up. Google, Apple, the local councils all seem have different opinions on where areas start and finish, the police also split their stats and policing areas differently often splitting areas.
Very true. Tap and barrel pub and swimming baths are both southvillle. And I think he took every angle from the same road????
Bedminster is a big area, with sub areas such as Southville, Ashton, Ashton Gate, Ashton Vale, South Street, Chessels, Windmill Hill, around St. John's Lane and East St areas are classic Bedminster.
… the scum are viewed as ‘victims’ by city authorities, hence the failure to address this crisis.
You must have never been out in a city in night or just a wet blanket

Go and visit Cadbury Heath (Banjo Island), you'll love it 👍🏼
I've lived in Hartcliffe my entire life and have never once felt unsafe.
It can get violent at times.
But it tends to be consensual violence.
The local herberts do seem to enjoy the odd dust up.

I was in Hartcliff during the great earthquake, it did a million pounds worth of improvments.
I moved to Bristol in 2005 and have lived in Bedminster since I got here. Never once felt unsafe. This guy must have lived a very sheltered life!

Yes, myself and a lot of the comments thought the same. That's why I did a separate video on St Paul's recently and tried to explain why I thought it wasn't on this list, even though it's clearly very dangerous there today.
Southmead is worse.
Add knowle west too murders are very common there
I lived in Bristol (Whitchurch) before moving to Australia and found that the violence you've referenced existed mostly around the Centre's pubs on the weekend.
That's a really good idea, I'll look at the Census data and see how clearly it lays out the data!
@@ukexplored thanks would be awsome
Yeah I agree and actually that hostel is on Jamaica Street, which I don’t class as Kingsdown
She’s right it’s Redcliffe not temple meads
I am looking forward to all these doing well going forward as so much money comes in to Bristol.
@@janebaker966 I like that you take your family out on a Sunday morning so your good lady, can have a lie in, now I know why my Mrs Divorced me I would of tryed having her help me with the cleaning on a sunday morning. 😉

Nice top hat!
Thanks
There are scrap metal guys that go around looking for this stuff, but I don’t think they can keep up! 😀
@@ukexplored think I’ll have to find hotels in the better areas of town!

I used to visit Bristol in the late 90s and I remember the city centre being quite chic. Looks pretty bad now.
It paints an unnecessarily bleak picture of these areas... This could be informative but it's more like sensationalist. It's a shame really.
I think he just found a list from somewhere. It's inaccurate. It names some places that in my experience are ok,and leaves our some places that are dodgy, for instance Southmead + Henbury.
what about Knowle west or southmead?
Those blue high rise in temple meads are for older people. 40 plus one block, 50 plus another block.
Big contractor's fill their pockets parasiting Bristol and I'm sure those in planning benefit from it financially, otherwise we might have had a truly loved and beautiful city, and that could only have happened if we had been determined to employ respectful architect's with talent. There are small pocket's of Bristol with a hint of it's ancient Soul we can still proudly point tourist's to, aplogising when overshadowed by tower's of a growing concete jungle and swathes of tarmac, potholes, and badly laid pavement's. George Ferguson you were at least that much better than the present day Mayor. Sadly the city has been taken by woke ideologies and this mental illness may never be cured.
Absolutely loved my stay at Bristol.❤.I was a student there. No way was it as bad as Portland Oregon or Baltimore🔫☠️
I am from hartcliffe it was not that bad place to bedminster I lived in north street and I lived of stokes croft not a problem I am a proper bristolean
Go just up the steps to Kingsdown parade and it's very different.
South Bristol is a dangerous place nowadays. FACT
I grew up in hartcliffe and would never go back.....I've had some of the worst experiences there 😬
I worked at Hartcliffe Boys club for a short time in the early 90s, it was rough. 7 year old kids smuggling Diamond White cider in was sad. The youth leaders were nice, however.
Kingsdown is not dangerous. I live there and I’ve never felt in danger. The social housing blocks are not dangerous either.
@@ukexplored it looks a bit rundown for sure. And there are some odd characters around that you have to be a little careful with sometimes, but most of them don’t mean any harm. If it was really dangerous, you wouldn’t be wandering around with a camera!

Ive lived in Bristol for 20 years. Its not a rough place. Thats about it really. I drink in the town centre and there is not any trouble. Come over you will see. Its more a fun place not a rough place. We exist to enjoy ourselves here rather than trying to be hard. The trouble is the cost of rent.
and the horrible and ugly graffiti
@Whatt787 Yea its not all that good. It's round Stokes Croft most of it.
@@ukexplored You should go back walk up Stapleton Road. You might want back up though LOL
Southmead
Lawrence Weston
Lockleaze
Easton
Newtown
Knowle West
St. Pauls
Barton Hill
Horfield
The lower end of Fishponds.
Bristol isn't too bad by day. By night its like something out of The lost boys.
Been to bristol a few times stayed there as well fantastic place to see especially by the Harbour
Lived in them hostel from when I got out of prison it’s run down and full of homeless
Lot a good in Bristol fountains , buskers singing I enjoy the town centre ❤️
broadmead is dying for sure but ironically, the oldest part of the city, crown mothers ruin to name a few venues, + all the strips through old city with boozers are packed every night even on weekdays. The market there isn't quiet during the week either.
“Kingsdown is not safe”- an absolute melt
Lived in bedminster for 3 years i didnt see it as a bad area

Then ignore all this. No reason to go to hartcliffe,it's so far out,but I wouldn't say avoid it. Even St Paul's is fine, lots of fine Georgian architecture there, just,if you're a man ignore any nice ladies trying to make friends with you and you'll be fine.
Bedminster isn't even in the top 10
Bedminster is #5 on the official stats, stats only tell have the story I get that, but we have to use something and be consistent.
Yeah, there has been some high profile cases where it didn’t end up well for students taking a wrong turn.
I think having them appear in a list could be more effective.
we'll add it to the list. thanks for the feedback, we may try that.
Southmead not even mentioned it's up and coming we are learning to be a community only a few bad apples I drink non alcoholic cider for that
@ 5:48 that was where the Outlaws was filmed series 1
Used to live in Bristol, a total shitshow...Glad I left from there. It only has 2-3 nice areas; the rest is not worth visiting.
And the centre that's where most stuff kicks off
i grew up in southmead in the 70s and 80s at one time people were scared to enter the area, so its nice to see its not on this list

thank you for the heads up about Bristol, I’ve walked through those areas at night when I visited and had no idea about the risks being on my own intoxicated waiting for travel back in the morning, I will definitely be more cautious in the future thanks to this video
Tbh many bristol residents myself included would list different areas you should be cautious in, i think when it comes to this stats arent always the best way to rely on things.
Bedminster at night is probably the only one residents would also tell you to be cautious in ( along with the city center but i thimk that applys to all citys)
St pauls and easton would probably be top of residents "be cautious" lists yet they arent feature on here at all.
Even the pigeons have flick knives.
Temple meads isn't an area 😂 You mean Redcliffe! That is Broadmead not the City Centre!
This guy obviously know nothing about Bristol!
Let’s be honest the whole place is an absolute shit hole.
I was surprised not to see Brislington on this list. Worst place in just about every regard that I've ever experienced.
Very interesting video. I don't see a problem at all with evidence of cannabis use, because I live in a country where weed is legal from shore to shore. On the other hand, I agree with most of your conclusions about the neighourhoods that you've examined. That being said, Bristol is still one of my favourite cities.
A nutther masterpiece brilliant suff love it
You're awesome, thanks 🙏
