  • Seven days in the wilderness: Wabakimi Provincial Park. That's right. My son Noah and I were dropped off in the remote wilderness area by bush plane. For the next seven days we travelled by canoe through the second largest Provincial Park in Ontario's far north west (3 hours drive north of Thunder Bay).
Together, Noah and I would practice our canoeing, bushcraft and wilderness survival skills as we explored the area.
Alone in the Canadian Boreal Forest, we wouldn't see anyone else until we were picked up seven days later.
For us, this trip would be simply another Place to Paddle.

Wabakimi Provincial Park is an unmanaged wilderness area and part of Ontario Parks. It's an exceptional boreal forest landscape rich with indigenous significance.

Absolutely top notch film. And a beautiful canoe! Thank you for helping ensure the next generation Canadian appreciates the tremendous gift we have in our backyards.
Two of our boys inspired us to try canoeing again. The old stories must have inspired them. Had not been in a canoe in 37 years. Didn't think I could.
Now we just throw my wheelchair in the middle of the boat a let 'er rip. Should not have waited so long....

excellent video. Clearly, a great dad doing his best to give his son lifelong memories. I cannot understand why anyone would give it a thumbs down.

      Thank you.
I'm not too concerned about the thumbs down (I actually even have a few subscribers who dive my videos the thumbs down as soon as I publish them - people are silly). It's just a part of the RUclips creator experience.

Hi Jason. Well done. I think this is the trip I was considering accompanying you on as a videographer. I see now that I missed out on a great one! Very special to share that experience with your son.

Thanks Larry. I hope so. It's one of those things isn't it, that we hope we can inspire our kids to get outside and explore further but also that they'll continue to do this stuff on their own later in life.

If we can travel on their original trails, I think we can learn from the trail forebears.

Man, what an adventure ! a brilliant, inspiring film. You have an amazing ‘backyard’ with all that wilderness. A couple of questions if I may: I'm guessing there was a third party with you? I was wondering how you achieved some of the shots, then figured that there was a red canoe on the floatplane too? Also water? did you carry your own supplies or filter the lake/river water? Top production, thanks. Also great to see the younger generation out in the wild away from their play-stations and the like.

Hey Andy, Thanks again for the compliments. Yes, we had two people with us to help (Jasmijn Decuyper as photographer and Jeff McColl who helped to paddle her canoe). All of our supplies were carried with us and we used a Platypus Gravityworks water filter system to clean our water.
