I agree with pretty much all of this. I think for larger company Vtubers, debuts are more useful. Most of these Vtubers have some experience and more help in the background. For an indie Vtuber with no experience or background help, I think the debut is not very useful and doing one after some experience/refresh would make more sense. Might be able to make some other Vtuber friends on the way to help hype the debut. Debuts are supposed to be hype trains.
Lore is something that irl tubers just can't replicate, and while on that it gives an immediate form of connection with their audience. It's no doubt that the vtuber scene thrives off the parasocial aspects of streaming, I would say it's an industry standard at this point. I do appriciate this video even as only a consumer of vtuber content, I found myself becoming more social when watching vtubers and the personable nature of vtubing is no doubt the reason. This is a great video to start getting into vtubing if you ask me.
I've been on the fence about debuts, and you posed some really good arguments against them. Honestly, trying to plan a debut has been something that's been keeping me from actually starting streaming, and it really isn't that important. For many indies like Chibidoki, Numi, PorcelainMaid, etc. you actually can't really find their debuts. You can find their re-debuts, with newer models, but not much for their original, janky models (yes, all three of them had been streaming for years, but with far worse models than the ones you know them for.)
Tbh I love the idea of starting streaming as a pre-debut vtuber with whatever janky-ass model you have. And every time you plan to upgrade your model, record a message for your future self. Once you have a big enough of an audience and are ready to debut, that compilation of messages would be amazing for catching up with your viewers and yourself
ive been seeing your videos pop up on my recommended, and every time im so surprised you dont have more views! i dont see that many people discussing these kinds of vtuber related topics and its super interesting as a vtuber!!
i think debuts are only important assuming the vtuber is looking to be successful number wise. i think if someone wanted to do vtuber streams for fun and as a hobby there's no need to promote yourself to hell and back

Debut’s are very important, since it’s introducing the character the vtuber uses.
