i can 100% support "the art of gliding"! it's a wonderful book i received last christmas. viento is an amazing collaboration of werner luidolt, simon lemmerer and johannes mentasti - and as you mentioned: they usually provide all texts in german and english. (i'm also a bit biased because at least simon and werner are from the same federal state as i am and i'm absolutely amazed by what they're doing ^^) and also thanks for reminding me that i have to take another deep dive into this book
I am simply amazed at the technology now. Even though as a thinking human being I knew it was coming. "back in my day" about 20-25 years ago we just pointed and went. Even before I had my handheld ICOM radio with GPS I flew for 3 hours once with none of the usual instruments (electrical failure) with essentially only an altimeter and airspeed. Truly seat of the pants and eyeballing it. I wonder if everyone now can find and center thermals or even take turn point photos (outdated I know). When we weren't sure of a photo, we had to circle back and go again. I assume nowadays you just blow through a turn point and the equipment does the confirmation and recording. Oh well. All this "new stuff" is indeed pretty cool.
Happy holidays, Tim.
Same to you!

I was thinking a fun enterprise task now would be to use phones to take photos of turn points…
I guess I just failed my medical. I read the title as the most beautiful gilding books.
Maybe I should get a gliding book for my boyfriend!
He would love it!

Well a bit to late for my Christmas wishlist now
Sorry about that, the books only just arrived today!
Sadly, books are largely overlooked these days, they’re a dying art ☹️
Yeah can’t beat a beautiful book like this though! Certainly nicer than browsing instagram…
