The new album is absolutely fantastic, as war Sunbather. Deafheaven is one of the few metal acts out there to still make original music and not succumb to genre stereotypes. The fact that the obnoxious metal "community" is wetting there pants over wether Deafheaven is "true black metulz!!1" is a testament to this. Keep it up!
"Where's my passion gone? Has it been carried off by some lonely driver in a line of florescent light? Has it been blurred together in ribboned patterns on the night? Along the stretch of some unnamed plane, we began again. I saw in your face that we’re the same when we began again. A multiverse of fuchsia and violet surrenders to blackness now. My world closes its eyes to sex and laughter."
The answers here are exactly why metal fans are so annoying. Yes, it's black metal. The band is unique and not a complete stereotype, no need to overcomplicate it. I've been a black metal fan for many years..the genre started pretty much because they needed a subgenre for all the bands that were ripping off mayhem. Either way, this is my first time hearing Deafheaven, and it's really great.
I really miss those sounds, a merge of black metal and dreaming melodies, what a great surprise was this group in their first albums. Their last work, Infinite granite, was a great great disappointment for me
This is great. This is also not black metal. It is closer to post rock or just post rock. Reminds me more of Cult of Luna and similar bands than anything black metal. Still great music regardless of what you call it.
listened to it hundreds of times.. still blown away. it's majestic
Red Machine Kieran yes fuck I’m not the only one
Majestic. Perfect word for this tune.
Same. This and vertigo
So powerful

I stopped listening to metal years ago but I still come back to this beautiful piece of music. I think that says a lot about it.
