@@GeoffBuysCars Hi Geoff, I'm a retired mechanic and drive round in a 2001 Toyota avensis, still going great and easy to maintain and hardly spent a penny on it, new cars are shite! Keep doing what you do 👍

I love the 'Arts & Crafts' headlining Geoff. Looks great. Upcycling is the best way of preserving our planet, instead of throwing perfectly usable stuff away and using up precious resources to make new stuff we don't really need. Shame they don't teach this stuff in schools.
Even more iritating is the only reason it fell off in the first place - makers not allowed to use certain kinds of paint and glue which could last much longer. Why can't they use them? Because they can apparently harm the environment...
Exactly my thoughts. If the looks bother you then maybe consider a colour change to something like gunmetal grey. As for the rest of the car, well, you don't really see the outside when you're driving it do you? And the interior of this car is very plush. Most cars of this generation seemed to be quite bland.

Low profile tyres are at this point pretty much unuseable in the UK yet they've been fitted to cars even more lately. Why does a family car need tyres with super low profiles anyway?

I drive a 2008 version with well over 200K miles. I think mine is a facelift model as the interior and engine specs are different. It's a 525D but it's actually a 3L 6 cylinder. Still a great car, had it 7 years now with no major issues, drives great. Before that I had the E39 and I agree they look way better. I'm reluctant to trade it in for a new car, as many I know have had so many issues with modern cars. Maybe one day, but not ready to get rid of it yet.

I've had Christmas lunch out for the past couple of years, about £70 a head, and then gone for an afternoon walk and come home for tea that we are too full to eat a lot for! If I spend the morning cooking all I want to do in the afternoon is sleep. So then Boxing Day is cooking with an afternoon nap,, which avoids the Sales - swings and roundabouts.
I had a 635d with exactly this set up, and I can tell you, it was really infuriating. Also, the indicator lights on the dashboard were obscured by the steering wheel, so doubly infuriating. Bad BMW design.
Best way to destroy turbos is to not leave running on tickover for a full minute before switching off. The next is exceeding 5000 miles for oil and filter changes and for ultimate destruction short trips. I suspect all three in this video were illustrated.
Only need to leave it a full minute tickover if you've actually driven it hard and the 5000 mile is an American myth, short trips in general kill any car and it's engine components including a turbo if fitted. If you do short trips the 5k oil interval also makes more sense.
I had one of these in silver, 55 plate about 10 years ago. I had to get rid, so many electrical issues, which I can’t remember. I used to brace myself every time I started the car for the dreaded BMW chime sound and a new fault. The split boot (which is great) used to randomly pop open, the TPMS was dodgy, the idrive had issues. But it was soooo comfy, mpg was ok and the engine sounded nice for a diesel when you kick down
In a world where designers must win prizes for the most lines, folds, and creases in the sheet metal, (see Hyundai for example), I think this car is a refreshing change.
Hi Lovely car pity about the sun roof, I hate them, but couldn't agree more it's an estate, so great for the tip run and my merc estate skip also doubles up as a kennel
If you want to head west to east on the train, you need to specify via York or Via Sheffield to get you off the west coast line to the East coast line. From Carlisle, you might even need to go via Newcastle. For East coast you'd probably need to change at Preston to via Blackburn, Burnley and all of West Yorkshire before changing again at York
I’m no Beemer fan boy, but for me it is a good looking car. So glad it doesn’t have any chrome on it as for me, chrome = cheap. Each to their own I guess 😊 I did say to myself when you got the wallpaper “really”, but have to confess it looks better than I expected!
I had a, until she indoors wrote it off after twelve years and 90k, 2006 - 530 d Msport touring. Wonderful apart from the terrible run flats and it didn't have heated seats which the dakota leather seats needed in winter. Perfect car and if it had pan roof it would have been incredible but it didn't. Few pints in pub -12pm - 2pm - then Christmas lunch at home. Done the dinosaur way.
I cannot agree with the split tailgate being a great feature! If you lift the glass section the luggage cover retracts and prevents you looking out the back window if you forget to return it! I agree with you about black cars, we have one: They are a pain and show all the dirt
The M57 engine is one of the best things BMW ever did. Smooth, powerful, durable, economical, easy to mod if you want more power. Once the swirl flaps and various plastic cooling parts are dealt with, pretty damn reliable too. I had a 330d and the M57 in that was an absolute tank. Shame the rest of the car seemed to disintegrate around it, but the motor its self felt like it could go on forever. I have a petrol E60 now which is the opposite - Feels gutless but the car its self is solid as a rock..... Maybe the E60 530d is the sweet spot...? Grunty motor, decent build, none of the rust problems of the E39/E46... Might try that next!
Another black car with black trim instead of chrome trim of course...If it had black alloys it would be even worse...🤔😳😳..The head lining was brilliant
I love wind deflectors, not for style but to stop rain/water coming in. The last three cars I've had seemed to all come in directly on the window switches
I have a 57 520d and I loved it. Now, sat for over a year with no battery it’s got an immobiliser issue. Shame - drove lovely, black just like that. Did the flaps on it but timing chain was a bit scary - have to take the bloody gear box off to look at it!! Did 53mpg and way better than the 15 plate x1 I have inherited now from the mrs.

This one seems to suit the black, that's just me though lol .
It's an E61. The E60 is the saloon. Your 525d is a genuine cheaper-insurance 2.5 litre but the later one (2007 on) is a de-tuned 3-litre M57 with smaller valves and a weedier gearbox. The Trumpskin leather in yours is glorious. The vape vents are a bit Chris Kaba, though, and have to go. The nav system in these is complete gash by modern standards. The tailgate will, without fail, stop working in the next few years. My 530d only opens the split glass, and then only if you put the interior light on or reverse with the fogs on. I've done 80k of the 230k miles on it.
One thing the e60 has going for it is they seriously don't seam to rust at all. Recently had a 2004 with near half a million on the odo that lives where they salt the roads for 5 months a year. Yet the damn underbody looks like new. So crazy diffrent compared to e39 that it replaced where almost every damn car soon has had lift points welded and tail gate replaced twice.
Can't deny it, BMW estates give me the horn. Not into the weird headlamp nonsense or fixation with screens though. Debbie is getting a serious bit of kit there. What's wrong with wind deflectors? Geoff is hiding something.
Why would you hate parcel shelfs? They reduce the noise inside the car and they avoid people looking at your luggage or anything else that might be worthy in your boot.
Underrated, lives in the shadow of the E39 but bought and sold lots over the years, well maintained one's will last forever and parts can be sourced everywhere, the cost accountants definitely probed the interior against the E39.The whole front end including the crash structure ia actually all alloy to maintain the fabled 50/50 distribution NOBODY would do that now. Petrol 6 like a 530 would be better though.....
I'm looking at the E61, this one, the 5th gen and the E39, the one you prefer, 4th gen and I struggle for an opinion on either of them, I don't prefer one more than the other but I don't get excited about cars where the roof doesn't come off and they have more than 2 doors so I like these about as much as I like my V50 Volvo estate. My cars that I loved were a Lexus Soarer,, a Mk1 MR2, a Griff 500 but most of all my Suzuki Cappuccino. However, you can't carry anything in a Cappuccino.
Had a 530d e60 brilliant car fast frugal the only bad thing is the run flat tyres Dump them for normal tyres and go up a size in your sidewalk , yes will throw gearing off very slightly but the comfort difference on our shit roads is amazing .
Either christmas lunch out or at home is valid. Christmas buffet could also work and easier than the traditional christmas lunch or going to a hotel with no pool for £180 per head (!!!)
When younger Xmas was all about us the kids and the family experience of being together at home on the day. Then later when we all grew up and we all moved out to our own homes everyone piling around with partners in hand becomes a chore. So in their later years mom and Dad announce that they are going to be staying in hotel over Xmas and they have paid for a huge table for us all to join them for Xmas lunch. They did it 3 times and it was good because the venue was excellent and they could afford it. [if you are young, tight for money or staying at the wrong venue then No it is not a good idea, but if you are old and can afford it then fine]
Looks like it's got like my 320d, two brake lights each side more than likely one of them has gone. Reset your mpg on the motorway mine shows 74mpg, cruise control at 70mph.
The headliner is amazing well done
Thank you!

The nav system in these is complete gash by modern standards.
The tailgate will, without fail, stop working in the next few years. My 530d only opens the split glass, and then only if you put the interior light on or reverse with the fogs on. I've done 80k of the 230k miles on it.
That headlining reminds me of my nan's living room in the late 90s.......
Geoff needs to launch a headlining channel 😁.
I think it looks really good .like the wheels too
Cracking cars. Just keep it serviced. My 2012 320d is totally reliable. 60 mpg on a run.
Awesome Geoff boy!!!
Definitely have to have Christmas dinner at home!!!
Cool headlining
Can't deny it, BMW estates give me the horn.
Not into the weird headlamp nonsense or fixation with screens though.
Debbie is getting a serious bit of kit there.
What's wrong with wind deflectors? Geoff is hiding something.
It looks a bit like my old early 90tees ford escort station wagon mk 3 ,😎
That was a great and indestructible car as wel.
What more could you want, need or get for £1.7k!! Great value and a unique headliner to boot! (Roof if you're going to be pedantic) 😊
Difficult to locate indicator stalk as standard. That explains a lot. 😁
I think it's a good-looking car, apart from the colour. Love the monstera deliciosa headlining.
Geoff! That is EFFFFFFFIN horrendous, it's like something from Jungle book!
Poor Debs. Too many drugs 😂
We’ll he is the king of the swingers!
I'm impressed with the diesel in my Mitsi ASX, getting about 40ish mpg and it's only done 110k on a 2014 plate.
I've got a silver M one of those. Nice and fast manual 6 speed diesel. Black inertia.
I think the car is just fine! The best from me! 🙂
Had a 530d e60 brilliant car fast frugal the only bad thing is the run flat tyres
Dump them for normal tyres and go up a size in your sidewalk , yes will throw gearing off very slightly but the comfort difference on our shit roads is amazing .
YOU KNOW WHEN YOU'VE BEEN GEOFF'D............
You should try a Jaguar Sportbrake 2.2 r sport
Looks like it's got like my 320d, two brake lights each side more than likely one of them has gone. Reset your mpg on the motorway mine shows 74mpg, cruise control at 70mph.
Nice car but a bit long for most drives. Love the headlining. 👍
Cream,,,, m8, The interior is cream ;D
