  • Tidradio's H3 Ham HT. Small Size, Big Features.
    The Tidradio H3 Ham HT. Is Tidradio's latest release. It combines the feature set of larger Ham HTs with a compact size that many will find make it perfect for an everyday carry HT. Wired programming with a plain USB-C cable and wireless programming through the ODMaster App together with air band reception makes the H3 a compelling choice for a budget priced Ham HT. And oh, by the way, signal purity is good.

    I purchased an H3 after watching you and a couple of other RUclipsrs reviewing this radio, it arrived last week I can honestly say I love it and that I am so impressed by the whole package it is reasonably priced and arrived within seven days from AliExpress. The integration with Bluetooth is smooth and easy to navigate through you can even program it via a webpage, the unit can be charged either with the desk cradle or via the USB C on the battery with the supplied lead. The voice prompts are clear and can be easier turned off of if not required. All in all I think Tidradio are definitely on to a winner. With the addition of Airband which is clear and works brilliantly, with the long battery life and all the bands that is able to cover is a no brainer. Well done Tidradio some of the other manufacturers will need to step up now !

    Not that I need yet another radio, but this is one I couldn't pass up. Bluetooth AND usb-c programming options? I was hooked right there. Its compact size is another big (pun intended LOL) plus. My old eyes are so glad that most HT's nowadays come with the color screens rather than a tri-colored screen like the original uv-5r. Soooo much easier to see. I can definitely see this radio becoming one of my main 'go-to' radios.

    You recently did a review of the TD-H3. Love your reviews. I am looking at purchasing one. I really like its features and form factor. My question is, is there anything that would concern you with the operation of the radio that would cause you to not purchase one? And dose the Bluetooth dongle work well for programming with the “Odmaster App”?

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  5 месяцев назад +1

      At about $40 dollars, US, I haven't found anything of great concern. It's an entry level radio that seems solid. The H3 and H8 don't need the Wireless programming dongle to work with ODMaster. Updates to the app come fairly frequently indicating they try to fix bugs and update radio coverage.

    Your presentations are very good and quite informative. A few questions for you. Is the H3 a full duplex radio ? Also from my reading it appears that the H8 seems to be a half duplex radio, can you confirm this please.

      The H3 and H8 are not full duplex radios. Most budget priced radios are not, either. Most full duplex radios will call that out in their advertising. Check out my latest videio on Budget vs. Premium HTs where I address that. ruclips.net/video/SR6TUZRUg6Q/видео.htmlsi=f0x0VhqptZk6WhAL

      @@GadgetTalk4U Thanks. We have not purchased or used any Ham HT’s in the last 20 years. Typically use and modify Motorola Astor Saber HT’s and the newer variants APX’s. We modify the software to extend and open up the radio. We our friend are on patrol they can have one HT that works for their job and they can talk to their ham buddies. Also we for the same cost of the 3 big premium companies we can purchase commercial grade full duplex analog / digital handie Talkies. We had some P25 repeaters which we enjoy. About 7 years ago I did purchase one of these Chinese Wouxun HT’s. Did not see anything that terrific. But I now see all these newer Chinese HT’s with very modern features like USB, Bluetooth, and being able to download repeaters in the places I travel without having to enter them by hand into software via the repeater book. Being able to monitor VHF/UHF will be good enough for now. But having one HT with access to Ham bands, FRS, and GMARS well, half duplex is an ok compromise. You can’t beat the price !!!! Some of these radios are IP64 incredible. So mabe one day these Chinese radio will produce full duplex radios with GPS, APRS, Text and emergency communication to Satellites. On HT that will do everything for a reasonable price. The Japanese radios are pricing themselves out of the market which why we were using Motorola radios.
      We spend more time lately on HF.
      Thanks for your reply and your presentations they are very helpful.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  5 месяцев назад

      I believe this simply means that with the dual watch enabled and because the radio has two PTTs, you could, say, transmit on 2M and receive on 70CM assuming the other operator's radio was set similarly and he or she used the opposite PTT combo.

  • @charlesterrell2603
    @charlesterrell2603 5 месяцев назад +1

    I actually own an old Kenwood tri-band HT with the famous double plug. Wonderful little radio, but even for its era that plug combo was a mistake. Diameters of headphone and mic jacks are swapped from what was standard on portable tape decks. Inexcusable! Data and PTT pins seem arbitrary and conflict with external audio.
    And then Baofeng came along and turned an obscure proprietary screwup into a permanent industry standard...
    What portable radios need now is the usual smartphone headphone-mic jack plus USB power. Expose serial, mic, and stereo headphone virtual devices through USB OTG. (Stereo would allow mapping A, B, weather, airband, etc to separate ears, or to play FM broadcast music in glorious stereo.) Maybe replicate all of that through Bluetooth. Add another USB port directly to the battery for faster / independent charging.
    Looks like Tidradio H3 is a big step in that direction.

    The programming can be done via an app using Bluetooth? A bit too quick tour of this radio. The only other radio that uses a Bluetooth cellphone app to programme is the Radtel 490, so far, unique.
    The "harmonics problem" isn't one from a low-powered transceiver of a mere five watts, unless the affected receiver is about ten feet from the "troublesome" transmitter. It's a "problem" blown up out of all proportion by testers using dummy loads and test equipment, not real radio conditions. G7MJT.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  5 месяцев назад +3

      Unfortunately, the regs don't say anything about distance or real radio conditions - just the limits. I agree that interference from a 1 or 2 watt spur, or even less, is unlikely to impact anyone, but these manufacturers know how to build clean radios, and maybe public pressure will be the incentive. I linked to a video review of the app. It also works with the H8. Check it out. Thanks for commenting. 73

    • @mikesey1
      @mikesey1 2 месяца назад

      Thank you, Jim. If a problem is negligable, why bother fixing it. It is only the US FCC that appears to be bothered about harmonics in the microwatt range; these are microwatts far less that 1 or 2 full watts.
      This all started with the alarm at the millions of UV-5R rsdios entering the US. The FCC was charged with finding a reason to restrict the use and importation of Chinese-made radios.

    Pitty the radio does not have USB C charging on the radio self. Not a big fan of cradles -> outdated. Like the small size though. Like he USB C programming port and cable chip built into the radio. Like the mic gain option. Dont like the display layut, reminds me of QYT KT-8R. Dont like the half screen menu.
