I think they just played every possible chord that there was to play. Gawd I would not want to improvise on this without a ton of rehearsal, and I think Corea was still reading the sheet music. Just amazing to watch. So glad this is here for all to see Corea's and McLaughlin's legacies.
This must be one of the profoundest musical statements since Coltrane/Parker.. I am very familiar with this piece...Al.. Chic ... Lenny ... Stanley ... fantastic o!!... but I think even Al di Meola would exclamate ... Wow!!... this is a duo ... and ... well ... priceless!! whoever posted it has my gratitude
Who has the absolute chops to even play with the likes of Chic Corea, but John McLaughlin? What pianist but Chic Corea would dare to match chops with the likes of McLaughlin on guitar? A match made in musical heaven. Even if he's playing an Ovation. A great mix, but even better musicianship and tonality from the hands of two modern masters.
He was playing the ovation in 1971. He took nothing from LITTLE Al. I saw him play solo guitar in 1971 in Vancouver ( Hello " MY Goals Beyond".) For a factory guitar the harmonics were wonderful. To each his own I guess.

Both are Genius, it's fantastic music, this kind of music has divine origin ...

JM is right of the cover of Belo Horizonte---one of my FAVORITE albums!
JM looks happy to have Chick playing on his tune. How could he not be?
Dois músicos, sensacionais.
Stunning concert...¡¡¡ YEAH...
Believe it or not, Corea's playing is strongly reminiscent of Bill Evans, both in his simpler passages and in his modulation pattern.
dead on interpretation. I saw Chick at Blue Note when he recorded Further Explorations - a tribute to Bill Evans, and his playing was uncanny...
+Michael Frueh Ahmad Jamal too
John also has paid tribute to Bill Evans with an album. Incredible interplay here.
... going to see these two this weekend at Chick's 70th birthday concerts at Blue Note, NYC... very psyched!

I think the ovation sounds great here
How can anyone thumb this down
this is priceless.
Excellent!

EXTASIS MUSICAL!!!...
Love Chick Corea! This piece reminds me a little of a Charlie Brown special (in a good way).
musical moment
A tune from McLaughlin's Belo Horizonte album.
the definition of "Level 80"
It's a little hard to believe he's already 70. I'm going to see him "this" weekend with Gary Burton.
And 7 years after your comment, they're both still playing great!
ジャズの伝説たち。先生:ご冥福をお祈りします。音楽に感謝します。
He probably took that ovation thing from Di Meola. I wonder if they were considered as cheesy 30 years ago as they are now :P

AGREED as much as I LOVE Al's playing no comparison to John's EVER
@anandanaga999
you mean the mixing engineer, right?
what about jaco pastorius ;)
Well Chick sure drowned Him out
too bad the guitar can barely be heard.
Same old jazz cliches. I like JML for his compositions.
