    They were known as Compact Fairlanes here...I knew of some local to me back in the 70's...That one's looking pretty nice...

    The car is really a sharp looking car. Someone said a person couldn't restore a car for the money they are asking, and I agree. The paint color really makes this 56 Ford really pop in my opinion.

    In the fall of 1955 my folks bought a’56 Fairlane two door hardtop. I grew up in Southern California so the car had the big engine. I remember seeing the small Thunderbird logo on the front fender and thinking how cool it looked. It was my Dad’s first new car and he took really good care of it. A week after we bought our ‘56 the people who lived 2 houses down from us bought a ‘56 Ford Parklane (the two door wagon).
    Ah, suburbia….

      Very nice only big negative, after owning two Y blocks, I'll never be plagued with another. I had the first in my 54 Custom line ñ9t much power and crappy economy dand no mechanic no matter how experienced could install the crappy rope type rear main seal so it would not leak. I finally decided the few drops were not a big deal, I drove the ole 54 for ten years, nice ride with a roomybin5erior, no creature comforts except a heated for cold and great vent windows for arm weather.

    I love the color blue and white and sweet looking all over.

    There’s no way possible to build one this nice for that price! The body and paintwork alone is gonna run $10-$15k then you’ve got engine, suspension, interior yet to go. You’ll have nearly double this invested in a good, clean 56 starting from ground up so your money ahead by getting this one that’s nearly perfect and it your own final touches on it!
    Nice car guys!!

      @@Freedomquest08 it would be a real burner with 6.0ls and turbo though.
      Or a twin turbo Eco from a police interceptor

    ....nice pick, Jeff....and for every young budding "car kid" with a pulse....these pilared Fairlane Sedans and Coupes were...quite literally, everywhere....
    ...this featured 2-door Club Sedan represented Ford as it's flagship model, dressed in its original Colonial White and Bermuda Blue two-tone...
    ...the P - code 312cid/5.1L Y-block V8 would have come equipped with a Holley 4-barrel carb.producing 225 bhp...and mated to either a 3-speed column mounted manual, or the 3-speed Ford-o-Matic...
    ...the sticker price on this beauty would have been roughly $2,3900...which seems laughably inexpensive; but as a frame of reference, the average home in 1956 was just $11,700, and average annual household income was just under $4,500...
    ...out of just over one million four hundred thousand total Fords made, almost half were Fairlanes...with this Club Sedan 2-door accounting for just under 178,000 units...

    • @alanolson6913

      Yes, they truly were everywhere. Along with the mid-range Chevrolet and Dodge -it seems every street scene in a photograph from that era has a number of them somewhere.

    A lot of the cars in the fifties cam from the Factory with multiple carburetors, both 3x2 and 2x4 and even 3x1 in the early Corvette....

    One of my favorite old FORDs

  • @morgansword
    @morgansword 2 года назад +2

    I would just love to have all the fords I have owned from this era. Youth is wasted on the young, we just didn't know what we had! I think that to sell, this one is a bit high as the stainless is in rough shape, the trim is dented from its times of not being treated like it is today. I think that they went backwards when they traded out the factory thunderbird valve covers. Also if trading stuff from other 56's, the crown vic back seat had the large chrome piece across the back and made a "V" between the seat sides on the upper half with a folding armrest just under the chrome V

    The same car as my brother's acceptance was white and green 3 on the tree with overdrive and the first stick I drove , age 8 and I shifted in the second, Had it up to 40 in the parking lot. I sure go ahead to look under the steering wheel between the dash cause it wasn't tall enough .. Also had 56 murk's wagon and end hard talk Matching white turquoise , they were both 312CI where the Ford was 272CI Wish I could find the 55 or 56 Mercury. 🙏🙏

    I believe the Thunderbird edition had the 312 engine. Does this car have the 312?

    • @lenisbennett3062
      @lenisbennett3062 2 года назад

      The 312 was only available in the thunderbird in 56. This car came with a 272 or a 292 . Fairlane got the 312 in 57.

    Like to know if it was a 292 or a 312. The 292 was standard but I've never seen that 3 duece set up on a 292, only on a 312.
