I have this problem where when I eat too many mouthfuls at once without taking a drink, it feels like the food isn't going down into my stomach, then when I finally take a drink, it's painful washing it down. It's given me a lot of anxiety when eating because I think I'm going to choke or the food is just going to regurgitate up again. I don't know if this is because I'm thinking too much about it or if it's normal but it's an uncomfortable feeling. It's crippling my mental health.
@@testing6753 What do your lungs have to do with your oesophagus? The food is not going into my lungs, it's going down the right pipe but it sometimes takes a while to go all the way down, so drinking immediately after is uncomfortable.
I can try to relate as I have problems eating in general but I think a good solution could honestly be to literally think about everything that you’re doing from the moment you grab food then making sure you consciously eat smaller bites and try to chew throughly, if you take a tiny few seconds more time it will help
@@Clxpzcheex2525 I took the barium test. I'm only holding liquid in my esophagus. But doctors just told me to diet, exercise, and take antacids for that. This still isn't figured out though and it frustrates me daily 😖

Oh I know this one! Ok look. What you have is called tongue thrust. It basically means your parents didn’t teach you to swallow right. Babes have their tongue at the bottom of their mouths because it’s easier to drink da milk. When you grow up to eat solid stuff, you’re suppose to start resting your tongue at the roof of your mouth, your palate. Also it’s why people say “let that coat your palate.” It’s because they know how to swallow and you don’t L
i dont know what i have but at times ill swallow or just breath and a small tickle at the back of my throat appears and gives me a horrible cough attack
My 14 year old daughter have been having trouble swallowing both solids and liquids for over 6 months. She was referred to the ENT department but the referral was declined because our gp had prescribed her omeprazole at the same time and apparently you can’t have an endoscopy done if you’re taking omeprazole. She had a Berium test done yesterday which they couldn’t see any reflux problems or any other issues with the digestive system. It’s also taking its toll on her

@@audreyl704Liquids? Maybe. But solid foods rarely get into your lungs unless they're very small bits, which aren't harmful to the lungs. You cough because your body closes your epiglotis (the thing that separates your esophagus from your trachea) to prevent food from going into the lungs and makes you cough so the food stuck in there gets back to your mouth, and it is very effective.

it happens when your esophagus walls are weak.it might feel like something is going into chest when drinking liquid or sometime eating it’s not a life threatening condition. But u should get it checked out if u r having breathing problem or coughing while eating or after
Been doing this a LOT over the last couple of years (I'm 62). As a matter of fact, I did it again a few minutes ago (it's been maybe 3 weeks since the last time). And as some people are also saying here, I get things going down the wrong pipe and also stuck in the back of my nose so I have to be really careful when sniffing to clear it because I can easily sniff it down my trachea from there. Yes, it worries me when it comes to vomiting because that can also cause these same two problems and that is especially gross. Tmi? I understand.
That. Is. Fucking. Terrifying.
i thought the same thing
😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 yes!

Silent aspiration? The second person did not seem to have a gag/cough reflex

well if your lungs are feeling okay, then you're probably fine. i'd recommend swallowing exercises

What is that area called where the abnormal swallow catches the liquid? Before it splits into the esophagus and trachea?

When you swallow try to place your tongue as far back as possible. Or try to eat with water, coke seems to help too.

I'm glad my swallowing is normal.
on the PAS scale, is this an 8?
Yes, this an 8
Aspiration pneumonia
So liquid just went into his lungs ? Wouldn’t he be dead by now ?
when food and liquids go to the wrong pipe to the lungs - you cough but it still goes to the lungs
It causes disease developed into pneumonia
Small amounts of liquids dont cause any harm nor do small bits of food, your lung is capable of breaking those down.

So what happens after it goes in the trachea? can you just cough it out or do you get some kidn of infection?
It can cause pneumonia, but usually you immediately start coughing when food lands near it preventing you from choking.
im having this test tomorrow. ive been having what seems like stuff going down slower for two years now. never choking though.
