I feel the tbr thing so much. I'm also a mood reader. I love challenging myself and I have phases in which I constantly read followed by phases were I might read once a week. I can recommend doing buddy reads. It's so fun to discuss books and it's been really motivating me to make time for reading (I struggle with that even if I'm in the mood for reading). Another thing I did is installing Mindful scrolling as a Google chrome extension. You can choose specific sides and then whenever you try to access them you'll be asked if you really want to spend time there and then it names something from a list you created in the settings of the extension. That list if filled with things you enjoy doing instead of being on this sides like reading or spending time with a loved one. It's free and helped me a lot
this explains so much on how you're able to read so many books! It truly is about prioritising reading and it can be difficult to make the adjustment. I managed 100+ last year and fingers crossed I can do this year too!
The audiobook segment is true. Sometimes I am just in the mood for an audiobook and cannot hold a physical book and to be honest some genres are much better on audiobook. All my psychological thriller books are on audiobook because that is how I enjoy them.
yesss! I have a similar experience where I especially love romance, middle grade & memoirs on audio book, but can absolutely not listen to fantasy- my brain just can't do it.
Tip 11. Read multiple books. If you set a specific time for each book and choose different genres so you are a lot less likely to get them mixed up. My stance on audiobooks is, a) I love absolutely them and b) I don’t personally consider them reading. The reason I don’t consider it reading is purely that it is a ‘doing word’. I wouldn’t watch the Grand Prix on TV then tell everyone I’d raced in the Grand Prix. That being said, audiobooks are a great way to ‘consume’ stories not only for people unable to physically read books for whatever reason but for those like me who can. Thanks for the vid Leo and keep up the good work in introducing us more content.
I personally love setting reading goals and turning it into a sort of challenge/game; it keeps me on task. I just started getting back into reading after like a decade of not reading a single book. I set my goal to 50 last year and ended up reading 64. This year I’m aiming for 100 and I’m right on track (actually a few books ahead) at 30 read atm. I’m personally quite proud of my progress, especially considering that I literally stopped reading entirely after college. I was afraid I’d become illiterate but that clearly not the case. LOL I mostly read what I like but have forced myself outside of my comfort zone a little and pushed myself through books I hated. I try to balance it by reading books I’m fairly confident that I’ll like after ones that I didn’t. My TBR is more like a long list of things I thought sounded interesting. I don’t read it in any particular order, but I do generally pick something from the list when deciding on the next book. I read really slowly and it bothers me to read more than one book at once. I tried listening to a couple of audiobooks last year but it’s just not the same IMO, I prefer physical books. Unlike most people, I have a lot of free time to read, so it works for me.
booktok got me out of a huuuuge reading slump, getting me motivated to do something I could be doing, which the media has helped work out for me with not just reading but exercising and going out too
I have dyslexia and audio books are a god send. I read so slow without them and it's discouraging. What I do is I have the physical/ebook version and follow along with the audio book. That's how I like to do it. I still read books that don't have an audiobook sometimes, but it is really difficult.
This is an excellent video with great advice! :D Last year I read more than 100 books for the first time ever. And the biggest thing for me was to prioritise reading during the day. It's really lovely and calming and a good break from the screens! This year I set my reading goal to 1 book haha. I love seeing how many I've read, but this year I decided to have no goal. I never used to set any tbrs before, but I've joined some readathons and then it works really well for me because I have a specific reason for reading each book. Without a readathon I will pick out a few I think I might want to read and just go from there.
i need to get into the audiobook game!! love all of these tips!! personally, i prefer reading more than one book at a time. it helps me keep the reading momentum going :)
This video is absolutely fantastic. I loved the tips! I totally agree with you when you say we should be more realistic with our reading pace. I know that you only talk about books, so I'm sorry if I'm being annoying by asking you this. I really like your taste in books and I was wondering if you could talk a little bit more about the dutch culture, like your taste in music or movies that are popular in your country, or even books. If you know any channels that talk about the dutch culture but they speak english in the videos, can you recommend some? I'm not sure if I'm being silly by asking you this. It's just that I love your content and would love to see more about your culture.
glad you enjoyed it, thank you! you're not annoying at all :-) I'm not sure I'm really the best person to ask, I don't feel like the things I enjoy are super integral to being dutch (I love indie rock bands and netflix shows that are international haha).
Is it just me who can’t get into audiobooks! Idk what it is like i love podcasts but when its a story i cant focus and I feel like i’m constantly missing stuff.
I used to be like this! Then I got into middle grade audiobooks, I firstly mostly listened during illustrating and from there on started other audiobooks too!
I would maybe start with some memoirs read by the author ~ I really enjoy listening to them speak their story. Tina Fey’s book Bossypants or Michelle Obama’s book Becoming have great audiobooks. Or if you’re you want more to the experience maybe listen to audiobooks with a full cast like Sandman by Neil Gaiman or Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Full casts can be great as it’s way more engaging and plays out more like the old radio story show.
Thank you for your amazing advice as I really really need it please stay safe and enjoy your reading 📖 love your family friend John from Australia xxxx and I am in the biggest slump ever due to my mental health issues ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
I’m the kind of reader who gets distracted by pretty covers in bookstores and buys the book. Only to realise I’ve already bought it on kindle or audible 🙃😅
Love audiobooks too.. love your vlogs’ & updates’ aesthetics & your taste in literature. I fell in love with your Paris vlog, could you pls share the hotel’s name & location? This is where I’ll plan my next Paris stay. Cheers.
I'm unable to get into audiobooks, I don't know why :( I've tried a few times, different genres and everything. I just can't get into the story. And I end up getting bored and frustrated very early on.
i always say that any way you can consume a story is reading & is valid ! for centuries, human beings told each other stories and the majority of the population consumed stories orally because they could not read/write ! to forget this history (and excluding ppl that are unable to read now for a variety of reasons) is so elitist and pretty strange to me
I'm not ashamed seeing anything as a race, but I have started to look at my reading more individually and not care what other people think. However even when doing this I'm still an incredibly slow reader to the point where I have to buy my own books because I am too slow to borrow books from the library. For some reason, everyone tells me how fast of a reader I am and it's really annoying to me. I've told them I'm not and they ignore me. It takes me 6 days to finish a contemporary novel. I have to dnf books and return them which is very annoying. It takes me weeks to finish a book if not months. I have a lot of annoying and bad reading habits that really take the fun out of reading for me and I have been in a reading slump for the past 2 years due to moving and not having access to my physical books. I have them back now, but have still been unable to motivate myself to read and as you said in the video, I have been disliking almost everything I have picked up which has been even more discouraging. I honestly worry I won't ever feel the same passion for reading I once did. I also have other interests that take out a lot of reading time and I haven't enjoyed audiobooks. Thank you for the video hopefully will be able to implement these tips into my reading!
Try to go back and reread a book you loved in the past when you used to read a lot. That helped me! It took me a while to get into audiobooks too but because like you I have a lot of other hobbies, I love the audiobooks for while I'm doing those things. So I pop them on while driving, cleaning, Gardening etc. Once I got used to listening to them I find I quite like it. Definitely depends on the book/narrator and I find I speed up the narration slightly to help my attention
Reading should be a pleasure ; why people have TBR lists is beyond me as such a thing serves only to create a sense of obligation to read which could lead to resentment. Surely the best way to enjoy books is to read them when you are in the mood to read.
I don't think TBRs have to take the fun out of reading. I don't use them ever because as you said, it stresses me out but my friend is stressed when she doesn't do it. She likes to plan and if she doesn't she falls into paralysis. People are different
Me being 10+ books behind on my goodreads goal, sitting here with a notebook and pen 📝😅

@@kaylajames9334 I'm 15 behind, but even that seems so hard to catch up on lol. Hope you've been able to catch up a little!
@@Tashiea I had to stop. It was starting to make reading, not feel fun anymore. I think I am up to 50 books though maybe a little more.
