I've got the Case Sodbuster Jr in the same yellow delrin with carbon steel; mine came in a white Case box, not a bubble pack though. 🤔Anyway, the fit and finish was ok, only minor blade centering though. I like it so far and it's already developing a lovely patina. I completely get what your saying and I agree with you 100%, I think Case should do a better job at QC. Look at Victorinox for example; they make thousands of SAK's a day and they mostly all leave the factory in perfect condition with excellent fit and finish. I'm sure a few lemmons sneak past their QC, but you certainly never hear about a poor quality Victorinox, and I've never seen one personally. 👍So it can be done. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!

Just got one from Amazon today
    Was 22 bucks
    In a CASE box
Blade centering off a little and the edge needs some work
But almost every knife I buy needs my attention
Other than that , I'm happy with it

I have one of these Sodbuster Jr knives that was made in 1983. I bought it second hand from an online estate sale. The quality of it is perfect and I haven't had a single issue with it. The only thing I had to do to it when I got it was sharpen it and remove rust from it. It's 40 years old so that's to be expected. Case's quality control was phenomenal up until the 2010s. I'll gladly buy their vintage knives but not new ones.

I just received that knife as a birthday present. The quality is nowhere near where it used to be,
The tang is bent! When opened, the blade looks like it was used to pry something. The whole thing bends to the left. Looking down the blade, the tip is nearly a half an inch off center line.
It’s a damned disgrace. Another great name dragged through the mud!

They are going go hear about this.
It’s not even the money. It’s the principle. They have to step it up
A former “third world” country is making excellent products and we are making crap.
How whoever is running this company handles this warranty problem will dictate whether I ever buy a new Case knife again.

I sell these at work and own a few myself. What I have noticed is that their “fancier” knives seem to get a bit more attention and TLC before they leave the factory. They’re not perfect, but I’ve seen the worst QC issues on their “user” grade work knives. I do have a Sodbuster Jr. I picked up for $5 at a flea market that’s basically perfect. It happens, but doesn’t seem to be the norm. Should this be the way things are? No, but for whatever reason-perhaps an obvious one-it seems the more you spend the less egregious the issues are.

I just bought 2 of these from Tractor Supply and have no problems with either one. Put a patina on one I plan to use. Keeping the other just to have.

Im in the UK. Sheffield knives have been downright embarrassing at times in the past QC wise, or they're slightly harder to find than the Holy grail. Has improved lately. My Sodbuster/JRs with the plastic handles are working knives so I wouldn't buy a Case for that particular knife. You can get a Whitby (the UKs version of Rough Rider, moved production overseas but still tries to trade on its British heritage) Sodbuster for under £10 in Carbon steel and it is a good functioning working knife. The Chinese made Imperial SBJs are good too.

Last 2 Case knives I bought had issues. Wharncliffe trapper sent back as blade had serious defects. Sodbuster with jigged bone scales had a very blunt tip and was not at all sharp. The blade was off centre and pivot dirty and full of grinding dust. I kept it and did some tidying on it but am done with Case until they sort it out. All the Chinese knives I have bought lately are perfect and scary sharp out of the box.

It really is sad that Case is not doing something about it’s QC. There are so many people calling them out on it that by now you would think they would address the issue. Sad thing to see. I guess they don’t care enough and figure people will just continue to buy these poorly made knives.

I recently bought the very same knife. The derlin is cracked on both sides by the middle pin. You are right, quality of Case basic models is lacking. Points are rounded over so no digging out a splinter. Sad. I have some of their best models like a tribal lock and saddle horn trapper. Fit and finish on these are fine. But they cost too much to use rough at work.

This is the reason I quit buying case, I have heard they had been getting better so I picked up one yesterday actually this exact knife and same ole bull quality, mine rubs on the side of the liner and scratches the blade, I also had burr going on one side of the knife half way down then switches to the other the rest of the knife, I really wish they would improve there quality control. Will not ever buy case again until they can get this fixed.

Yeah I'm not a fan of modern Case Knives I see them all the time at Ace Hardware and tractor and supplies I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on the sodbuster cuz I debated about getting that she's that's one of my favorites I have a frost Cutlery sodbuster that's still better than that thing and that's sad cuz cases such a well-known name and they have great history which case is now owned by Zippo so it's not a shocker they don't know how to put nice together I've had a few older Sod-Buster Case Knives come through my shop and they were pretty well-built the older one from what I could tell didn't have a pain like that I don't remember what the exact pin is called you guys in the comments will know but a lot of people think I hate Case Knives no I do not I love their history but they're just really lacking in their Quality controls at least when I buy a buck knife I know it's going to be put together good and not be wobbly like a damn Domino

That is your typical Case knife unfortunately. This is why I will only purchase new from a Dealer that has an easy return policy(SMKW/DLT). Other than that I try to only buy from my guy at the Flea Market cause he will let me dig thru all of his to ensure I get a good one. It seems that there is no more QC in some of these companies, even Bark River is terrible now, 1 i ordered came unsharpened, and the other had a huge divot in the Micarta(had to send it back to DLT cause it wasn't something i could easily fix). If you want to be impressed at a decent price point RoseCraft is a good one, made in China but they QC them when they get here.

Even though I love Case I have been disappointed with the fit and finish of their Knives, having played the game of exchanging knives until a good one is obtained. It shouldn't be this way. I would gladly pay a higher price if the knives were centered and had little to no gaps. Otherwise there are a lot of other traditionals to be had for 1/3 the price if you just want a working knife. For example I just got a Marbles Sowbelly Stockman in D2 for $15 . It's every bit as nice as a Case and will hold a better edge to boot........but it is not made in the US. I bet Case sales would increase if they upped there game just a little. I don't mind supporting a company like Rosecraft. They are an American company that has their knives made in China for now at least. They plan on moving production to the US. I have 8 or 9 Rosecrafts and every one of them is right! Amazing for the price, heck at any price!
