Whoah! That was pretty intense! What's most important to you in a meal planning app? Or are you sticking with analog planning, and if so, why? We'd love to hear your thoughts so drop us a comment. :)
Hi guys!!! Im a UX/UI design student, currently working on a mealprep app. This video was sooooo helpful, you guys summed up all the info I need!! Hopefully my app one day reaches your top 3 as well. Thanks for all the work you both put into this video! Got a new suscriber! Best wishes
Wow! Great video!. Not just because of the cooking apps, but you guys present the information so quick and efficiently! So many other youtubers that talk too much and don’t seem prepared before shooting the videos could learn from you.
Real Organized I think I’m gonna go with Yummly. My main interest is to have simple, fast to cook recipes that are also healthy and that provide a grocery list. It’d be great if the grocery list communicated with my Reminders list on iOS but it’s ok without it.
@@RealOrganized We don't meal plan and that's why I found your video so useful. We end up with last minute shopping lists / last minute meal decisions not to mention wasted items which, all combined, I think is a stress people don't fully recognise (or just put up with). Your detailed analysis of each aspect of the apps will make our choice of which one to use a lot easier.
Thanks, Sarah & Caleb! It took a while to get this one out but we’re happy we made it in time for the holidays! 😃 Did any of the apps stick out to you as more appealing than the others?
Helpful video! Several years ago, I tried about 10 meal planning apps. My favourite is Paprika (now Paprika3). I love having all my recipes with me wherever I go. It’s easy to search for recipes similar to my own, import them and edit them; very seldom do I have to type in a recipe. I haven’t done much meal planning with the app though. Something for me to learn!
Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful. I appreciate how much time you put into this and how thoroughly you went through all the apps. I will definitely give Paprika a try now. I was also wondering if you will ever run ads on your channel. I love your videos and you put so much time and effort into them. If you were ever debating the idea, just know that I would gladly watch a few ads to help out your channel.
Thanks Janet! That means a lot. We are so glad you liked the video. I LOVE paprika. It is a bit of work up front but so worth it once you have gotten all your recipes in there.
I can see this channel with well over a million subs!!! Your videos are such high quality and always very informative! Keep doing what your doing it really helps me and others as well! Love from Ireland xxx
@@RealOrganized I've never used an app but I've mean plannned on and off for the past few months! I downloaded Yummy yesterday though and I think it's my app!
@@caoimhed Glad to hear it! One thing we didn't mention about Yummly is that it has an image-recognition feature, so you can "scan" the food in your fridge/kitchen, and it'll give you suggestions for recipes based on those ingredients. Haven't tried it out yet, but it looks really neat. :)
I have a sort of specific requirement. I want a printable meal plan. Digital meal planning is great and I enjoy a lot of the features of it but I really need a printed recipe that I can write on and mark up as needed. I'm sorry I'm a little bit old-fashioned. Can you print the recipes from any of these apps?
Paprika is also my number one fav-- and hot tip-- usually the week of Thanksgiving they do a sale on the premium version which gets you cloud backup and sync. I do love paprika and weirdly I go through fits of using and not using. I wish there was a way to easily scan a paper recipe and import. I love cookbooks and I do not have the time to sit and type in all my favorites.
I know! I knew I had to have an app where I could import my own recipes. I am excited for one of them to add the scanning feature though... Great tip as well! That is next week ya'll! Although the free version still get you pretty far. :)
This was amazingly detailed and very helpful. Although it is quite a long video for what I hoped would be a simple question, knowing all the pros and cons of each app made it worth watching. Now time to try some out for myself. Thanks Guys.
My most important feature is automatically being able to look at the pantry/inventory and being able to adjust the shopping list accordingly. That together with importing recipes gives most of what I want. Bonus if it can look at what I have on hand and say, "Here's what you can make with what you have."
Also, you might be interested in Yummly's image-recognition feature that allows you to scan the food you have and gives suggestions for recipes based on the items you already have on hand. We didn't mention this in the video, but it seems pretty freakin' neat. :)
@@RealOrganized Thanks for the thought. I've gone with Paprika for now and so far it seems to be working just fine but I do like that feature in Yummly you just mentioned.
Great information. Thank you. Preheat and Yummly are my top. I was going to choose Prepear, but I decided on Yummly, because it can add to my Google calendar.
Great work! This video has so much information. It could be very beneficial to provide a brief overview of the apps and categories you are reviewing in the description, with timestamps. This will benefit the future watchers :)
@@RealOrganized Very welcome! As a viewer, hope I can give you some useful feedback. I found this video to be really good. However, I wasn't clear on exactly what type of videos this channel is about. I know you mentioned something earlier in the vid about helpful stuff, but I didn't know whether it's a cooking channel, tech channel, app channel. that makes subscribing more of an uncertain thing, because if someone was just looking for a meal planning app, they may watch this without subscribing because they don't exactly know what's in store in terms of future videos.
Thank you so much. That is some of the best feedback we have gotten. Can I ask you one thing? From the videos you have now watched (if you have watched any more) what would you think our channel is about?
Same! Or what ingredients I’m already getting for another recipe. I’ve been building a spreadsheet just with the ingredients and control+f for specifics.
Awesome video! I chose Paprika, but have one question - how do you deal with the fact that your imported recipes do not match the app's language? I have English, Danish and German recipes i want to import and whenever i want to create the grocery list, it jumbles up all the aisles and does not add up the ingredients properly. Do you translate your recipes? Or only the ingredients? Or do you simply edit the grocery list once it's created?
That is such a good question! And unfortunately there isn't a super satisfying answer... :( I wish it could just translate them over because I have a lot of Danish recipes too. I translate my recipes as I add them. It's a lot more work up front but then it's done. And to be honest I mostly use American websites when I brows for inspiration.
Thank you for this! I have my own recipes/links, but I’m looking for something that will coordinate what’s on my list or fridge (buy a bag of carrots but recipe only needs one). Too often it ends up wasted, or recipes with the same ingredient (i.e. carrots) adds 5 more things to buy... suggestions?
Hi Chele. I don't know if any of them have exactly what you are looking for but yummly at least has the ability to filter for multiple ingredients (so you use more of the stuff you have on hand). Does that help any?
Exactly what I looking for... I subscribed to your channel as soon as I saw the content you guys are pushing out! Fab 👑 Just one request, videos like these gets outdated as soon as new better apps are in the market so think of doing v2.0 when it's required. Sending lots of blessings 🙌🏻
What app would work best for family meal planning, but also shows nutritional value per serving, and also gives my a grocery list for the meals I picked for that week?
All the apps give you a grocery list for the meals you picked for the week,so that one is easy. But for the other two I would go with either yummly or prepear. They have nutritional facts most of the time (but not always). Or use paprika and only import recipes from websites that have nutritional facts. Does that help?
Real Organized so can I substitute certain items in recipes and it will automatically adjust the nutritional information from the substitute ingredient?
Do any of these apps take into account certain dietary restrictions? One of my family members has diabetes and another has allergies, on top of that I have 3 kids who are picky. Ideas? I was looking a for an app with profiles for each family member but it's currently non-existent.
I am in progress of switching to digital because I want to send my grocery list to the store and do contactless pick up. Way easier with kids and I end up spending less too
A lot of work and research put into this, well done! To be honest dinners are light here in Spain so we try to keep it simple most days... I try to plan ahead based on the groceries I have or my freezer contents, but most weeks I just wing it 😂 This kind of apps are too comprehensive for me x
What do a you usually have for dinner? Do you have any favorite recipes? I wouldn’t stress picking up a meal planning app unless food planning was a real pain in my day-to-day life (which it does tend to be). You have to find what works for you... and there is such a thing as over-planning (but don’t tell anybody I said that). 😉 As always, thanks for your comment, Marta. We appreciate you being here. ☺️
