DIY Water Filter | Making Tap Water Drinkable

Living in the city and knowing about what is being put in our water, in June of 2023, we set out to find a good water filtration system that would work best for our family. After a lot of research, we came to the conclusion that Berkey fit the bill.
My wife and I like to save money however we can, so I began to think of ways that I could build one, and here's what I came up with. We have been using our "Homemade Berkey" for over a year now and are very happy with it. Whenever we have guests over, they are always intrigued about how I made it, so I thought I would do a video. We could not find anything similarly priced on amazon to the stockpots we found in Walmart, so we will not be adding those. It looks like the 12qt stockpots are out of stock at Walmart.com, however, they are still on the shelves here in our local Walmart. We also found some of these stock pots at Kroger. We hope this information helps.
Thankfully, when we made our homemade filtration system, they still had the Berkey replacement filters in stock everywhere and at the price of $166. However, it is very hard to find them today. This is very unfortunate. We are adding these on here just in case anyone is interested. There are other filters out there, however, after the extensive research we did last year, we didn’t find anything that compared. You may come to another conclusion. Just do what you believe is best for you and your family!

Great video! We actually bought a Berkey a few years ago and since we use so much filtered water, we decided we wanted an additional filter, and made a homemade 5 gallon Berkey out of food grade 5 gallon buckets. I wish we had thought of using the stainless pots like you did (instead of baby pink plastic!) so our filters would match eachother! 😅 We wound up buying the sight glass spigot which I really love because I always know exactly how much filtered water is left. 👍🏼 May the Lord bless you all for sharing your videos!

Oh, my! I am SO thankful you did this video! We have been in such a quandary as to what to do. It is on my mind every single day, and to be honest, we have been overwhelmed with not even knowing where to start to remedy this concern. I know, without a doubt, that God led you to do this, and you explained everything SO well.
