Muito bom o canal eu sou praticante de Kung Fu mas eu admiro muito o Karate,a funcionalidade dos katas são muito boas, parabens pelo video e que o canal continue crescendo!
Here is some advice. Uke should be more forceful. If he is not tense and aggressive at least 10% of the time, there is no point in drilling. I used to drill naihanchi with someone who would always comply with my attacks. He would go down on the takedown and tap on the arm locks. It was when I got the strongest guy in the Dojo that I improved.
Thanks for the advice, we definitely go harder when we train privately but wanted to show less resistance for the sake of making the video. Thanks for the comment
Guys... Everytime someone tries to apply katas in a realistic situation in order to show that "it works" the result is an application with no resemblance at all with the kata. Let's be honest: katas are useless today; Karate should forget about them and use the time spent in kata training to develop real fighting skills.
Kata study and practice allows the karateka to train into reflexive response the proper fundamentals without serious risk of injury, without a training partner (option), and with no gym gear/apparatus. That means YOU...the karateka...have a built-in, mobile, independent training platform you can take with you everywhere and use anywhere you can get 10' x 10' or so of privacy. If you believe this should be abandoned in serious training for combative arts, then you are a neophyte. If by "real fighting skills" you actually mean SPORT sparring training, then I am closer to agreeing with you; but when I read "real fighting skills," I am thinking on a WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL than sports! I once spent 5 months in captivity and calisthenics, isometrics, and KATA were my only forms of daily exercise. I came out in BETTER condition than I went in. Had I needed to escape or defend myself as a last resort, I would have been ready. It also helped pass the time and preserved my mental state. You see? Push-ups and sit-ups will never stop a knife en route to disembowel you or a fist speeding toward your favorite head. They do little for balance and coordination. KATA does ALL of the above while keeping your mind sharp.
A kata is simply a drill. Drills are necessary in every sport and they don't look perfect on real life. How many times does a NFL team practice half back toss left only to see it go to shit in the game? Same with katas. But the drills are still needed for the muscle memory. It's the same for every sport under the sun.
Joe Margaryan Katas WERE that in a particular circumstance which is not ours anymore. They were made in order to 1) convey secret tecnhiques to those chosen in the old bushido style and 2) provide individual training for those without partners. That's not our situation today. There's no reason to hide Karate techniques from the "non iniciated" and you don't have to practice your habilities in your backyard at dawn; go to a gym, is very more useful. And, more important, that secret knowledge, the real interpretation of those katas, are now lost. If you read Funakoshi's Karate-Do Kyohan and look at the interpretations he conveys there, you'll probably laugh at the view of such nonsense. To keep insisting and trying different applications over and over again is a lost of time.
karate got so many different styles all over the world its actually kind of awesome how many karate's exists
Ami Chan's Nightycore just because they have different opinion on karate...

Katas are self training without a partner
