  • This documentary has already been posted on RUclips, but all versions I've found have sound only playing on the left side (I think) and not on the right. So... I fixed it. Video quality's not very good, but I didn't rip it so don't blame me. :)
In this documentary, they talk about criminals how've tried to fool the world with their crocodile tears. It's the third episode in the second series of "Real crime" and was broadcast on the 7th of May 2002.

Oh absolutely, me too! What a slap in the face, 6 years for murder. Not only has the family lost someone they loved very much, but now they have to face the realization that the life of their loved one is only worth 6 years to the judicial system. People go to prison for LIFE for far lesser crimes.

    • @ncredbird3998

Me too, but I can say I think I wouldn't even let it fall to the courts to punish the murderer, if just give them what torment they put my family through, kill them the same way they killed my family member. Court would rather work out deals and then force me to pay for life care of the very person that murdered my loved one. A person that murdered with intent just doesn't deserve the right to life or go for an appeal as they don't afford those choices to the murdered.

Alvildus in reviewing and seeing murder cases from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 whether on our INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY & other true crime stories, I find that England seems the most “lenient” in the sentences of the worst homicides. 🤦🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️. Why? Seems like sentences between Henry VIII and current laws need to imposed. The US doesn’t mess around. Murder I or capital murder carries a death sentence or life without parole. Smh

Unfortunately it would appear that you could literally kill or hurt other human beings so badly but heaven forbid you mess with the government like not pay your taxes etc, or owe the tax man or maybe even are involved in a riot and they will throw the book at you for robbing them of their taxes, but oh no you go kill someone or hurt them badly, and you get a few months or a couple of years, you can get 2 years just for refusing to pay council tax but apparently here in this case you can kill someone like he did his wife and only get 6 years, the system is broken, and now they are arresting everyone quickly with the riots which I understand but if they had done that in the first place with people like the Rotherham grooming gangs then people wouldn't be feeling so angry but they took their time with stuff like that and other things but yet they are doing the rioters quickly, when in reality if they had done things properly to begin with people wouldn't be so annoyed now, I don't condone the violence or the way it is happening with all the riots but I can see why people are pushed to the limits especially in this economy climate, it doesn't make it right though, but I do understand it

I live in th UK for last 20 years and I strongly agree. You can get away with anything in exchange for few years in prison. It leads to the situation that someone can kill your close one and in few years will laugh in your face on the street. Lack of capital punishment is smack in the victim's family face.
I do understand that there is a lot of confusion about death penalty but this is basic justice. It was used by mankind for thousands years. The best seems to be biblical interpretation. You can only sentence someone to death by having two witnesses and lying witnesses are subject of the same punishment, death. If you are lying trying to push innocent person before execution squad, you deserve the same because effectively you are trying to murder this person.
There is a lot of unclear situations where we are not sure and those cases should not be punished with capital punishment until there 101% proof of guilt. On the other side you have a very clear cases, victim's blood on hands of the murderer shouting loudly. In those cases it should be capital punishment.
Recently a father in Russia killed his colleague caught red handed raping his daughter and he walked free. It was treated as necessary defence. I think that every father would do it. I cannot imagine this happening in the UK. You can land in jail for self defence and pay compensation to the offender. Sick world.
Law gives you right to live and protect yours and family lives but takes away necessary tools to do so.

A great question which has never been successfully answered. It is true that the death sentence is no deterrent to other would-be killers; the best you can say about it is that THAT particular killer won't kill again ! To that extent we are protecting society from him/her. My only problem with the death sentence is that we have killed the wrong person so many times, it is scary. Also, many other prisoners, after long periods on death row, have been set free on new evidence. So the death sentence is not the way to go IMHO.
In my view a life sentence for 1st degree murder should be mandatory. Also, prison is hell for most inmates. I've heard hardened criminals come out and say that they would rather die than go back in to that jungle of survival. For other degrees of murder, depending on the circumstances, a suitable LONG sentence would be more effective. Once you execute a guy, that's it - he doesn't suffer anymore. But prison would be torture for years.
Whatever the case, you will never get a perfect system of crime and punishment.

In Norway we gave mass murderers of 77 people and 300+ injured 21 years in prison. (Anders Breivik) The prisons are like private holiday resorts and you can pretty much ask for stuff like a ps4 and they'll let you have it. Also, rapists and sexual abusers have their own island village as a prison, no gates or fences in sight, and you get your own lodge all to yourself lol

    • @dcs002
      @dcs002 8 лет назад +17

      Yukilumamoon-
I have a different perspective on Norway's system. The goal of Norway's corrections system is to treat people in a way that will make them into decent people when they are released. American prisons are miserable, violent, torture facilities that have become indoctrination centers for career criminals. People are so messed up when they are released that have very little hope of being "corrected" or "rehabilitated". I don't care what the prisoner deserves. I care about the outcomes, and I think Norway has a record of good outcomes. They have one of the lowest murder rates in the world, right? If it works, it works. The rest is just retribution, and that helps no one.

Mindrollong Well one of them was actually innocent. Sion Jenkins was acquitted on appeal. Mind you it cost him his family and his job and has never been compensated. The forensic evidence was flawed and police actually suppressed the fact that there was a prowler had been reported. The police went after him with tunnel vision and have never apologised.

I saw an interesting Australian video lately on the subject of "crocodile tear" murderers. An ex- FBI profiler reviewing the cases said that truly innocent people, those who are honestly grieving for a lost or missing loved one, are just too inconsolable to want to go on TV to do an appeal. It is the ones who crave going on TV that you have to watch. The guilty ones want to see themselves on TV, to see if their story sounds authentic, if their appeals seem honest and true. The guilty suspects will do anything to get on TV - it is part of their mindset to see if the media and the public have bought their story and have been convinced of their innocence. They also crave their ten minutes of fame !. Truly innocent people couldn't care less at that moment what anybody thinks, they are too wound up in grief and remorse, is what the profiler said. He further stated that a guilty person will often rub their eyes with the back of their hands, thereby concealing that they have no tears, or cover their face with their hands, acting as if sobbing their hearts out - in truth they are just laughing at the stupidity of the police and the public. How often have we actually witnessed these sick individuals in action ? They shed crocodile tears telling their loved one (the person who they have murdered !) to come home, or just to tell somebody that they are okay ! Those who make a media circus out of a tragedy are the ones who you should really have your sights on. They have often not only murdered the missing person, they want to get famous at the same time - the "Look at me, I am the true victim here !" kind of appeal for our sympathy and support (preferably financial !) drooling off their lying lips !
(Poor little Maddie's case comes immediately to mind, without implying anything of course, how could you think that of me - or them - or both ?). Interesting stuff to watch out for in the future the next time we see somebody come on TV making a heartbreaking appeal for our help - and our money - in finding a "beloved" person who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. They could well be the actual murderers.
    P.S.
There are always exceptions to the rule. Profiling works mainly on generalisation, working from statistics and at times may be wrong in their conclusion, having missed an important factor or some facts unknown to the police until much later. Being mainly right opposed to not often being totally wrong is the strength and value of good profiling in police work.

Well, not ALL of us. Frankly, I'm so tired of hearing calls for vengeance from my fellow citizens. We have the most draconian sentences here in the US. There are MANY Americans who think juveniles should be executed. We routinely execute the insane. Americans don't get it that without mercy there is no justice whatsoever. This isn't the US I grew up in. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

    • @mindrolling24

I love your attitude: so refreshing to see in an American right now!
There are some truly awful people who commit unforgivable and horrific crimes but there have been many instances of innocent people (and the insane) being executed that it's not worth the risk of it ever happening again.
Make prison awful for people who commit terrible crimes: shut down the commissary, make it no smoking, stop drugs getting in and make the prisoners WORK. Too many of them end up overweight and obese and they don't deserve to be able to just sit around and eat.

Yet no parent even bad ones deserve the type of horror that was bestowed upon your own parent. No child should ever leave this world in the awful manner that you did...it breaks my heart. I've been studying English for over a decade but have never come across this expression, Crocodile Tears, which means Tears of Sorrow that is insincere or simply LIE until I watched this crime doc..!!!. Even my teacher is unaware of it!!!. Among Japanese, Chinese & Korean I've studied, I find English the most difficult & complex but prodigiously intriguing language. And one of the reasons for that is arguably on account of the great disparity in cultures & the way of thinking?. English is not that tough one to learn for Europeans but they will have a heck of hard time in acquiring Japanese & Chinese!?,,Am I right?,,,,,Thanks to it, I now know what it means.,,,,From Tokyo,,,,(10/07/22)

Greetings from Sweden. A cousin of mine learned Chinese. I'd probably struggle to learn any of these languages though.
Expressions equivalent to "crocodile tears" in other languages are probably difficult to learn because at least some of them are expressions that you grow up with, and they make sense because you grew up with them.
For example, in Swedish "ropa inte 'hej' förrän du kommit över bäcken" ("don't shout 'hey' until you made it over the creek' or something) means that you shouldn't celebrate something prematurely. I don't know the origins of the expression, but I grew up with it, so it makes sense to me. If I told someone from an English-speaking country that they shouldn't shout "hey" before they made it over the creek, I doubt that it would make much sense to them.
Things like that feel like the most difficult thing to learn when learning a new language, maybe.

What Vickers did to poor little Jamie's family was the most evil thing imaginable. He not only murdered their little son and brother, he got inside their hearts and minds like a despicable parasite, keeping their hope up when he knew all along that he had murdered and dismembered their boy. It doesn't get much worse than that. A totally jaded and evil monster like he is should be locked away from society until he dies in prison, with no parole possible, ever.

He was so blatant during the investigation and revelled in the attention he received in the media. He courted the press and appeared on television in a documentary pretending to be the hero husband having to cope without his wife, looking after the home and children etc. He said terrible things about her in the media. All along he had murdered his wife and knew she wouldn't be coming back. He is the epitome of pure evil.
