One fun tidbit I learned is that Mako is a a shark (in the same family as the great white) and I thought that was incredibly clever way to give reference how this is their big splash into this new "Sharc" chip pedal line. I went fully digital a while back, but I just need pedals. I've had the spaceship boards in the past all the big strymon stuff, but I'm at a stage where I would rather throw myself off a cliff than have to go menu diving to get the sounds I want. That's all I've done the past few years and I miss just turning knobby thingys and getting what I want. This thing sounds killer, gives me all the flexibility I would need, and it's UI is absolutely brilliant. I needed a delay pedal and I think this has to be it (now I just need them to make a reverb pedal in this format). You're one of my favorite channels and always love to listen to your take on gear. Keep kicking ass, my dude!
Most helpful thing to me about this review was enabling me to see just how good this pedal really is. For someone like me, with much less experience, it was easy not to appreciate. Your perspective and enthusiasm were very valuable - thank you! I own all 4 of the Mako series pedals, and I will say that as I’m moving up the learning curve with them, I’m increasingly impressed. They also are great for conserving pedal board real estate. Only downside for me is that when you power them off, they revert to last *preset* used, not the last *settings* used, when powered back on again. I wrote Walrus about this and they said others have had the same complaint, and at some point a firmware update is supposed to remedy it. Even if they don’t, the quality of sound is phenomenal and the versatility is powerful. Worth the money, in my opinion.
Very nice review. Looks like I found a new swiss knife delay. I like all the sounds coming out of it, they sound very "organic" to my ears, not "synthy" or artificially created. Like you said, very inspiring and very aerial !
Preset tempos can be changed from global to individual preset in the menu. And they made the lights LED colors much more distinct in production. Excellent review. Just got mine.
........And with midi?....unbeatable! (Great demo Henning, you made us fall in love with this thing) The attack feature is really important in midi sync situations, where you need to separate the beat from the delay.
ok. I hate you...been going back and forth and deciding if I new a new pedal or guitar case....this video made me say yes to this. Great video., I shall subscribe now thank you.
Really awesome pedal. Sounds great and the attack knob seems amazing and sounds so good. There are so many delays out there but for sound and function this is really interesting. Oh and seeing all those guitars at 2:02 was nice! 👍
Interesting, warm, expressive- that's the best sweater I've ever seen- pretty cool pedal thingy to. LOL- Just joking around man- I actually love this delay, I want one really badly, on an absurd level even- but even a used one is outta my reach. Trying to sell some other gear off and get one, but it's not exactly a seller's market right now. Who knows though- maybe someone will buy my Headrush MX5 soon, that would be a massive help. I moved on to the UAFX Lion 68 and I just never use the HR anymore. Surely there's someone out there who wants an MX5 that already has the firmware updated, and about 200$ worth of IRs and rigs already on it as well. Box, papers, all the stuff that it came with- and no issues, works as intended. Only used it for like 10 months.
But if the bypass LED changes color then you don’t know what setting it is on when it is off. Maybe just a bigger or brighter LED display for the tap tempo and that’s all worked out.
I like the Walrus Audio D1, but I had to go for the Keeley Eccos. Most of my board consist of Walrus, JHS and Keeley. I love all three and will probably end up with the D1 sometime in the distant future. Thanks for the demo, it was wonderful!
@@Mesa3077Boogie so far it's pretty great. I was out of town for the weekend and only got to play with it for about an hour last night. I like to use it as an ambient type delay, but it does slap back and a few other delays quite nicely. The FDBK knob is interesting... all the others turn hard and smooth, but a bump on this one and it turns all the way around. Must be because of the different style for the push/alt settings in the pedal.

So I have tried all bypass modes like walrus audio said, why is it that when I bypass the pedal this is the only pedal in the world is it all of a sudden put your signal on the left side so if you have headphones plugged in your cab sim or whatever all of a sudden your guitar signal comes out of the left side. So I can basically never bypass the pedal. FYI. Mono in... And stereo out.
If I understand your question: Needs to be set to "DSP Bypass" mode to achieve mono in and mono out to both left and right when bypassed (per the manual): Audio Input and Output - The Mako D1 offers multiple input and output configurations. o Mono In / Mono Out - Use the top set of jacks for mono in - mono out. o Mono In / Dual Mono Out - Only available when using DSP bypass mode. o Stereo In / Stereo Out o Stereo In / Mono Out - Only available when using DSP bypass mode. So there must be something wrong if you're in DSP Bypass mode and it is only coming out the Mono (left) side. Have you been able to resolve this? I want to get one but am hesitant now. :(
Man I kinda wanted to get this till I realized you can't use your second output unless it's engaged. I currently have a source audio nemesis running into a stereo looper running to two amps. I was thinking this thing would be cooler and more stripped down (source audio app and all is almost too much) but without having stereo pass through that doesn't work and quite frankly is disappointing from a company I love

@@markgamache6377 Yes, thanks. My issue is Dark World covers the "out there" reverbs but not enough of the standard. I was wondering the same. The pdf manual on their website says with mono in and dual mono out you need to be in “DSP Bypass” mode. Perhaps Henning had a different mode selected? The manual says this about the bypass modes: Bypass Mode - The D1 offers three bypass modes. True Bypass, DSP+True Bypass, and DSP Bypass. In True Bypass mode, the D1 uses relays to bypass the pedal. In DSP+True Bypass mode, the D1 allows the delay echoes to ring out before bypassing via relays. In DSP Bypass mode, the D1 uses the DSP to bypass the pedal.
