A lot of these are really pathetic crashes caused by the drivers rubbish driving and they're clearly not good enough to be rallying. People who are like "ooh I fancy a go at that" with no experience or driving skills whatsoever lmao.
Rally cars are safe to the point where, barring extremely rare circumstances (metal pole through bodywork), drivers will pretty much always survive crashes like these. The people clap because a crash is good entertainment, and they know the driver and co-driver are probably safe. You'll notice clapping stops when circumstances are more serious, e.g. a fire. The first thing people do when rushing over to the car is to check if the drivers are okay. A crash is just extra entertainment, really.
Noob to rally racing, so forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain why the crowd applauds after someone has a severe crash/accident? That seems really odd to me.
