11:45 What you say here is not entirely true, because the roads and sidewalks in Oslo are salted with gravel which means that when the snow comes in contact with the ground, it melts. Leaving that aside, Oslo has never really had extremely much snow in the winter. If it comes, it only lasts for a few days before the rain drains it away.

Hope you have a good time despite this. The people of Oslo are very warm - just got to break the ice 🧊 but they love it when you break the ice as they aren’t used to it :)

Synchronicity at work! Earlier this evening I booked my flight from California to Oslo to arrive on 11 July. Booked hotel room for two nights; planning one full day to visit Vigelandparken, the City Hall, and the Opera House, wander and enjoy some eateries! I too like seagulls. I appreciate you showing 22 July Center, and pointing out some negatives about urbanization; I´m a street wise kid from NYC, but now live in the mountains of northern California. I left my Heart in Tromsø last March, so I want to pay my respects to Norway by visiting Oslo on my way back to Tromsø. Thanks for sharing.

Note, if you are 24 hours in Oslo, and you are going to take more than three trips on public transportation, you do not buy single tickets, but a day card which gives you the use of buses, trams, metro and ferries for the whole period.

Never been to Norway but I thought Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Iceland 🇮🇸 to me were the cleanest countries I’ve visited. Even the public toilets near a waterfall in Iceland which is packed full of tourists shocked me because it was so clean and well maintained.

I think when you have time and resources Alex, perhaps you should do tours around natural beauties i.e. mountains, volcanoes, countryside etc. I did enjoy this video of your experiences in Oslo. Very fascinated and yes as with Nordic countries they’re expensive like hell compared to the UK.

It's always funny to me as a Norwegian when foreigners are shocked about how clean it is here, and why wouldn't it tho, yet by Norwegian standards, it's meh. Go out on a Friday night before the weekend, and it's not, then again they clean Oslo every night. So wouldn't notice the next day anyway. Not gonna tell where, because then everyone will use it, but us locals know of places where you can go if you need a toilet, without paying a dime, and it's not the nearest buss shed, or park lol. And yes cliamte change. I grew up herer, and I'm used to way more snow. Now it's only rain and ice. Summers are hotter, dryer and lasts longer. And it's not weird for there to be no people around, the weather, it's a Saturday morning, and I suspect this was right during our 1st lockdown and at the start of the pandemic, so most people would work from home. Traditionally January is our coldest month.

France I know very well :)
It’s actually where my parents spend most of their lives these days since retirement. They live in the South West. Normandy is phenomenal for the history. And Brittany is very beautiful with wonderful restaurants. France is probably the most all round country in Europe. It has everything you could want. Mountains, beaches, forests, countryside, cities, culture, food, wine and also fantastic electronic music. I shouldn’t say too much as the English should never give them too many compliments :)

The maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years. We do not have life or death sentence. BUT after 21 years in jail he will be evaluated if he is safe to be put back to sociaty. Which is probably never gonna happen so regarding that he will probably end his life in prison.

The boarded up place at løkka has a fascinating story. Apparently the owner wanted to make it into a retail type of shop, but the building itself is an old one from 1880 and the government wouldn't let him Used to be an old theater or something, so for historical purposes he wasn't allowed to mess about with it with. So instead of making something of it, he was a sour puss and just decided to keep it boarded up with lights indoors. I think he's dead now, and his kids have a different perspective but that's still left to be seen. Live just down the streets from it and it's been that way since I moved here 8 years ago, still no change to this date.

    • @TheWonderingEnglishman

Thank you for insight. Its a shame such a central place has remained like that for such a long time. However, with covid madness recently I'm hardly surprised. Many streets all over the world are now still boarded up. Including swathes of London. Thanks for watching from Norway 🇳🇴 :)
