    I have a 12 inch and 14 inch version with rope stringing and also an 18 inch Remo synthetic. The 14 Meinl is by far the best synthetic skinned djembe I have ever played. You can play it with rain pouring on it with no change to tone/volume. Almost too easy to get slaps but I am not complaining ! Not quite strong enough to risk sitting full weight on top of it so I play them standing with a strap. I cycle 14 miles over the downs to Avebury every solstice with the 14 inch on my back. Super light and super sounding. Recommended highly.

    Rope tuned djembes only! Preferably made in Africa too because each djembe can feed a whole family for a week. They need it!
    It's been many years since I've noticed, but hopefully Toca still sells djembes made by African artisans. It is a win-win because buying African djembes from an American distributor increases demand/availability for the product.

    I know a lot of the purists don't like the synthetic drum but it sounds good. Actually better then the Remo.

    looks great! would love a video on using djembe and congas in one setup! I've got a 10" djembe on a stand with conguitas and would be great to get inspiration for groove options :)

    Not surprised you also excel on the djembe. I have a Remo 8" djembe which is the first one I ever saw. I picked it up and hit it a few times and said "sell me this drum!" She did, and it's my favorite drum. It is always within grabbing distance when I watch one of your videos. Thanks again and be well, amigo.

    I truly respect everyone that likes the sound on this synthetic djembe but me as a djembe player of the traditional I really don’t like it and doesn’t come even close to the good lenke wood djembes!
    But I understand, we cannot argue people’s taste and it’s just my opinion 😊

    I've been wanting to add a djembe to my conga set at church but never know how I can integrate it into the songs we sing. So now I'm hoping you post some videos on how to integrate the djembe into a congas set for gigs.
    Thank you for your great job and content may God continue to bless you and your family.

    But a gorilla (or 2) in the box would of been so cool...LOL, I love the play by play from your kiddo, it was great! Thanks for the review, I'll definitely keep this one in mind for the future. I'm currently looking for a set of congas with good bang for the buck, as I'm a disabled Vet on limited fixed income. Little did I know that my 1st hand percussion instrument, a RAV Vast drum, would open up a new world of percussion that I never realized I had the aptitude for or would enjoy so much. Thanks for posting, take care of you and yours, stay safe and healthy!

    Heoh! , Love to hear your thoughts on a comparison traditional vs synthetic once you have some time to become familiar with your new drum. IMO If you are a gigging percussionist, you can't beat the consistency durability and tunability of a synthetic djembe. You can't beat the awesome tone of a traditional djembes either , but most audiences can't differentiate between the two types. Anyways Stay safe stay heathy! Play everyday! 😎👍

    Hey man! Have you ever played a real African djembe?
    I find those synthetic ones lacking in bass and tonality thin.
    It would be hard for me to get used to that sound.

    • @fyabun
      @fyabun 4 года назад +3

      @@victorgaleano8910 perdón, no sé español, así que si esto suena mal es traductor de Google. No estaba fallando, estaba preguntando si había tocado un Djembe tradicional para comparar el sonido. Tengo, y creo que lo tradicional es superior en sonido y rango de tono. simplemente no se comparan. Cuando golpeas el centro de un Djembe real, el bajo resuena por toda la habitación. No es así con el plástico. No faltar al respeto solo hablar abiertamente
      *In English so nothing gets lost in translation* (that's how wars are started)
      pardon, I don't know Spanish so if this sounds bad it's Google translate.
      I wasn't dissing, I was asking if he'd played a traditional Djembe to compare the sound. I have, and find the traditional to be superior in sound and range of tone. they just don't compare.
      When you hit the centre of a real Djembe the bass resonates around the room. Not so with the plastic one.
      Not disrespecting just open talk.

    Those tuning brackets eat into your legs too. Try and find a traditionally made one see what you think

    • @fyabun
      @fyabun 4 года назад

      Aside from the metal tuning brackets cutting into thighs, the slickly painted body is too slippery when trying to hold it with just your legs. A solution is, when sitting down and playing just take the traditional neck/shoulder strap and place it on your chair under your butt. This leaves the drum suspended where you need it and your legs more free (less stress no more gripping) and enables you to put bells or shakers on your feet if your playing solo and need a time marker (makes for beautifying the music too).
      Peace

    It is made in Indonesia which is so close to India but still all Meinl, LP, Toca, Remo unfortunately has to be imported from USA which adds up to Total Cost which is almost 3-4 times of the Original Cost making it really impossible to buy!!
    Even if We want, We cant buy!!😣😣

    I'm new to the djembe, many years ago I was a part of a drum circle and man, what a blast! Had so much fun. I'd like to start up on my own and I figured maybe this one might be the one to start with.
    The question I have for you is this djembe has a synthetic head however they do have one with a goat head.
    From what I understand, the goat head makes the sound warmer compared to the synthetic head. And since this is mechanically tuned, as you said, it holds its tune.
    Would it be best to get the 14-in with the goat head instead of the synthetic?
    That way I would have best of both worlds, The warmer sound from the goat head and it will hold it's tune because of it being mechanically tuned.
    What do you think?

    Come on guys, have you ever put your hands on a real djembe? This is a toy in comparison, trust me. Better to get a small model lenke from Mali or Guinea that this stuff with all synthetic material that sounds like a kitchen pot

  • @timothysmallaxe

    This is not a djembe the player is good but not a fan of these at all compared to a real djembe. There are great light djembe out there that make this thing sound like a toy
