Paul Simon is the absolute best at going into the creative process in interviews
Paul Simon ,has written some of the most memorable melodic songs of the 20th century;
I love these interviews!
If "Bridge Over Troubled Water" had been written last week, it would still be accepted and be a chart buster because it is good music.
Fuck it's almost 2am and I have school in the morning, but I can't help watching this guy, he's such a great storyteller :)
Thanks, bin a fan 50 yrs, this is the best interview ever.
I wish I had a musician for a father.
"My life was irrevocably changed."
"When did you first see that change?"
"I just told you, when I saw my song at 59 you ass wit."
guitar stand fail @ 8:15 hahaha LOVE PAUL SIMON
Play at 1.5x speed, he sounds like Martin Scorsese.
brilliant!
yeah thats why.
whats happening? is Simon being cross examined by a judge..this looks like a 90"s courtroom
Not necessarily. By that judgment, all good music would be popular, and it just isn't. There are entire realms of music that most people don't listen to, but is still quality music.
@wildpianoman16 i mean this to be encouraging - but your culture is into more than rap and hip hop. don't sell yourself or your generation short, and don't make yourself a martyr or hide behind cynicism and words like 'academic'. people are always looking for and listening to good music. i listened to some of your music, there's a lot of potential there, and some beautiful stuff, but you've got a lot to learn. keep studying your craft and getting better. and write about the things you know.
Are you really saying the reason your songs aren't accepted is because of the year you were born? There are literally thousands of performers in every style of music making a living. Maybe your songs just aren't good enough. Paul Simon is successful because he's a great songwriter, not because he started his career in the 60's. Those who can do, those who can't teach, have a think about that.
Why don't you release your songs and see what happens? Not everybody likes rap and hip-hop and those people may enjoy your music. When Simon & Garfunkel brought out their albums there was no other music like it and there still isn't and that is their appeal.
i think the old styles are still there my friend its just we are brainwashed with this x factor nonsense but hey we must be getting old i guess my grandparents said the same things when i was playing bob dylan everyday....i dont know if you get it but in the uk we get jools holland some good stuff on there....
Paul Simon is a legend in the making....
