Thank you so much for posting this video! I was getting very frustrated trying to make a double lei. Once I watched your video, I finally understood how to do it!❤
Tutorials was easy to follow. Had to watch the beginning several time to see what ribbon to pull on the second loop. Once i got it the rest was easy to follow. Thank you for making the two color four ribbon lei.
Micah, thank you for the great tutorial. Watched the single lei tutorial first, then the double. I tackled making a double lei with 5/8" inch organza ribbon (red & white). It was tough getting started as the organza is delicate and somewhat slippery, but after I got it going, it became easier. I like the way it turned out. It is wide, but looks and feels soft. Thanks again for your video and tips!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your very easy to follow tutorial, I made a beautiful lei for my nephew three years ago and he really love it but I add some money origami on it it came out really pretty , now I am watching your tutorial again after three years to make a lei for my daughter graduation. Keep a good work ! Thanks again
Thanks so much, Micah! I just completed my first double ribbon lei, and it turned out beautifully! You're right, definitely trickier than the single. It took me about 5 times starting over at the beginning, but then I got the hang of it. You're great, thanks for inspiring me to try new things! Look forward to seeing more of your upcoming projects.
Yes, getting started is the difficult and confusing part of the process, and as you said, it starts to take shape and look nice once you get going. Great job. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this VERY clear tutorial on double braid leis. It's the most understandable video tutorial & camera angle was perfect! Now eager & more confident to try it out. Kudos fellow crafter❣ 👏🏽🤙🏽
This video and the other one about the simpler lei were extremely helpful. Thanks! They will come in handy this week. Hopefully all goes well and the one I make turns out decent.
took me awhile to grasp the loops. once I got it down turned out beautiful. I agree with some others there was a lot of talking however this video helped me a ton
+Gynna Williams Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree fully that I talked to much in this video. I even skip around. I'm going to make a new lei video soon as well. So keep an eye out for that.
Thank you, I had to learn how to do leis when my friends' daughter is graduating this year, and she is the top student in her hawaiian school, so I wanted to makes some leis for her
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was able to make my first ever ribbon/money lei for my daughter's promotion. It turned out to be really nice and I enjoyed making it! Keep posting tutorials!
Hello Micha, I initially watched your video is few years back. I wanted to thank you for making this tutorial, because since than I've been making them a lot and have had many request from friends and family to make them leis. I wanna say it was easier for me to understand since I'm left handed as well and the more I practiced the easier it got. 😃 I wish they had a way to add a photo cause I'd really like to show you some of my leis :( bummer, any who, thank you! You're Awesome!!
+MicahsCrafts So, I have a few questions... first, I think that maybe the ribbon that I bought from Hobby Lobby was too thick, is it possibly I need thinner ribbon? Second, I would like to make a double braided lei out of all purple, yet using four variations on purple, and I am new at this... any recommendation there? In addition, I attempted to make the single braided lei, however I noticed that I was having an issue with the ribbon, like, knotting up, I think it may be due again to the ribbon being too think and also, I was wondering, finally, about how tight or loose the tying should be, as I started out my single ribbon braided lei looser and the got tighter, which, together with the extra thickness/knotting made my first attempt super weird and it ended up in the garbage (also because I realize that I would like an all purple and not gold and blue lei). Oh, one last thing, we live here in Washington and so some people put leis in there rear-views to show we are from Hawai'i/San Francisco... my mom is concern the lei will obstruct her view so perhaps she would like a smaller lei, say for around the head rather than neck, is this possible? Sorry for soo many questions...
+Ryan Kapuniai Please help! I would really like a nice full double braided purple lei for my mom, and honestly with regard to the last comment above it will probably be for around the neck.
I'm so sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I must not have gotten the email about your comments and I only went back and tried to look through all my comments now. I'm sorry it is already a year later. But answering your questions, u can pretty much use any thickness of ribbon as long as they are all pretty much the same width. And it is probably easier practicing making the regular braided lei before attempting this one. U can also make the lei as short or as long as u like. Say if u want to make it like a "Haku" which is a Hawaiian word for lei on the head. U can make those if u like so that she can put it in her car. It's all up to u and your creativity. The 4 purple colors would look really nice. So please go ahead and try to practice and make one for her. If u have any other questions please leave another comment. Hope this helps!
Mahalo Micah! I just made a lei for my niece's graduation in Portland, and it turned out real nice! Took awhile to figure out how to start, but once I got the concept of which ribbon to insert in which loop, it was fairly easy. Thanks again! Get such thing as Triple Braided lei???
Umm.. the thicker ribbon that you use is definitely easier, but feel free to use any size that you like. I would recommend starting with a thicker and heftier type of ribbon and it'll definitely make the experience easier. Later on you can integrate sheer or mixed types of ribbons.
This graduation lei is super easy to make, it just takes time and patience to finish it nicely. Good luck to you all that is trying to make this graduation lei like me. You all can do this!!
Wish there was a quick reference for the yardage and ribbon width in the video description area. While I very much appreciate your attention to detail it was a bit wordy so it was 5min into the video before the length was mentioned. I feel though that after watching your video I do have a better grasp on how to make this lei. I hope this small critique helps you in future videos as I am looking forward to more from you.
+Joann Clinton Thank you so much for watching and I do agree that I talked to much in this video. I hope it did help you though. I will be posting a new video soon. So keep and eye out for that. Thanks
+MicahsCrafts yes it did help. Started me on a path of loving making ribbon leis so much I sell few here and there just to support the ribbon buying ha ha. Now I make several styles
Do you have a video tutorial for make the double lei with 4 colors? You make it look so easy and I'm hoping you can show me how to make the 4 color one.
If I have time I will try to make a video on how to make the double braided lei with four colors to make it easier. I made it with these two particular colors because I had to make them for graduation season and didn't have time to make a four color one. Anyway I will try to get around to it. Thanks for watching and if I don't post a video soon please remind me. Have a great day
can you show how you tie it off when you're done? everytime I make this lei, all of my four ribbons(six yards each) end up in different lengths? Why? Mahalo
Hi. You made such a beautiful lei. Just a question: how about if I need to use 3 colors: blue, white and yellow for a school color double braided lei. Please specify the width of the ribbons and the length of each ribbons I need to buy. Please respond ASAP as I need to purchase and get going with this for my son's graduation this May. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge/skill. :) Evelyn
+Evelyn Borgelt Thanks for watching and hope this video helped. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but my reply function wasn't working. Anyway, it's best to use at least 5 1/2 or 6 yards of ribbon per color. And to make the lei 3 colors, 2 of the 4 strands have to be one colors. Example: 1 Blue, 1 Green, and 2 White. Also the width of the ribbon is all preference. They just all have to be the same width. I will have a new lei video up soon to. So keep an eye out for that. Thanks!
Can you please make a double braided lei with 4 different colors so it's easier to follow. I tried following with your 2 colors and couldnt do it.. I would really appreciate it.. Thanks
Micah, I'm putting together some of these beautiful leis for graduations. I was wondering if you had any suggestions of pretty bows or flowers that we can add to the leis???
Hi. I really like your tutorial, but I found it really difficult to follow your instructions. I can't figure out how you tied the initial loose knot and loop for each side. Do I have to tie it a certain way on each side for it to work? Can you make another video for the same double ribbon lei, but with less distracting verbiage with instructions on exactly how to make the knot, if the tail is supposed to face a certain way, etc? I was able to make the single, but I can't figure this one out. Thanks!
Never mind. I got it! What confused me was having to pull the short tail on the initial loop inserts. As I continued, it started to come together! Thanks for the tutorial!

I watched your simple one and got it right away, thank you.
Finally after 20 mins I got the hang of it. You helped a lot. Thank you!
I really like your lei you did a great job
Thank you so much for this nice video- it is really helpful.

Thanks! One more question....Do the strands have to be same in length? Just FYI, but very good vid. I kind of practicing.
I would rather see more ribbon lei weavings because you do it so clearly and well done.
Nice job. Thank you for making the tutorials
+Nalani Reimann-Panisi Thanks!
