  • 3 Years ago my life as an AMPUTEE changed when I was introduced to the OSSUR RHEO XC. Find out why, what happened and why we should NEVER GIVE UP.
    #amputee #theampedlife #lifewithoutlimitations
    I have been an AMPUTEE since 2004.
    In 2000 I had a paragliding accident, after which I struggled with complications of my left leg. Constant infections and acute, chronic pain pushed me to the point where I considered amputation. Ultimately it was the right decision, which opened up a completely different life to me.
    Today I am a happy amputee. In this channel I aim to share what it is that got me to this space. I hope that you find your own happiness, despite, and even because of, the struggles of becoming an amputee :-)

    Awesome Chris, your inspiring as always, I hope and pray to one day be where you are, and if you only knew what you have done for me and my life. Chris I say this from the bottom of my heart, you have truly saved my life, 100% if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be here today. P arrant I think that is one of the kindest things I’ve ever heard from someone I’ve never met before. It’s incredible how people have become my close friends on this channel, I never expected it to become so interactive, important and valuable to me. You truly inspire me to be a better person and to continue to make short films, I am grateful for the time you and others take to watch, interacts and motivate others who come here to connect on what we all share and have in common. I appreciate your kindness, thanks for being such a caring long distance friend! I too hope we will meet one day, that would be very special :-)

    Hello, Chris, Russ here. Thank you so much again. I did have my through-knee amputation, one month ago tomorrow. I’m already learning to walk, going through heavy physio and other physical training and thoroughly enjoying myself! It’s a magnificent challenge and I’m so happy to be moving forward!
    Thank you for your insight and inspiration.

      Rejoicing Bones Hi Russ! Thanks for your message and for letting us know how you’re getting on. I admire your positive approach and I’m sure it will help others who read your message and who you will meet in the future. I love how you describe it as being a magnificent challenge, what an amazing attitude! I could’t agree more, the “crisis”of losing my leg made my life so much better in the end. Please keep in touch, we need your voice of inspiration here :-) Take care and all the best with getting your mobility back my friend.

    Yo Chris. Bo here ( DAK). We chatted a while back before the world turned upside down & bleak! In a totally shitty mood, so it’s good to what’s up in your world. I have never given up or lost my sense of gratitude. Keep safe, bro🦿🦿

      worth gardner Hey Bo, thanks so much for saying hi! I’m sorry to hear that your mood is on the down side, hoping things start looking up for you soon. Like you I believe that gratitude is the antidote for depression, regardless of where we find ourselves. It makes me smile to hear that you’ve never given up, thanks for putting that out there for me and others to see. Take care mate!

    So happy to see you again Chris. I have learned so much from your videos. Your 'Straight walking, with the pelvis out' was a life changer for me. In the past month, I learned from the brilliant young doctor who saved my residual leg, that the donor veins and arteries needed, took about a day longer than expected. The result was the death of nerves on the bottom of my only foot. I will most likely never obtain balance on my residual leg. However, I walk like a champion with my 'walker' and that is because of you. Thank you. Stay healthy and stay safe.

      Marion Diemert Hi Marion, thanks for writing this message and for your kindness. I’m so sorry to hear about the setback, but I’m going to hold onto the hope that one day you too will be able to look back and say that you can now do something you never thought possible before. Your positive message put a smile on my face tonight, thank you for doing that! Take care, keep on walking!

You're so honest with your feelings, your experience of being an amputee, we can relate to how you describe the many obstacles we face on a daily basis. You always manage to put into words what most of us are feeling. Thank you. Stay safe. Virtual hugs xx

      @!Wynne Carter I wanted to second your comments. Chris is one awesome individual, to bad he doesn’t post more for our sake Wynne. I can always expect Chris to be dead on point with exactly what I’m feeling and going through, he is absolutely amazing. I would give anything to be at the place in life where he is at. I’ve got a CLeg but my problems are getting the right sockets to fit, I’m on my fourth one and it doesn’t fit right either and I’m only 2 years post accident today so my feelings are all over the place. Thanks for your comments as well Wynn.

It’s been a while since Ive had an update, would love to hear more about your story too. One day I’m going to do interviews with the regulars on the channel, I hope that you and others will be willing to participate. Let me know ... Take care, stay healthy and virtual hugs right back at you too xx

      @@theampedlife Hi Chris, I'm doing really well, thank you for asking. The last few months of lockdown have been a little harder for me though. Some days it's hard to get motivated, get up, get dressed, get the leg on and then have nowhere to go!!! I'm sure so many of us have been feeling the same way, amputee or not. I'd be more than happy to participate in sharing my story. If I can be an inspiration to anyone facing amputation through cancer (which is my particular story) I'd be more than happy to help others in any way I can. Look forward to your future video's. Keep well and safe during this crazy time! xx

It does take time to get the socket right, I'm still having problems with mine digging in the groin which can be so painful. They just can't seem to get that bit right, but they will! I'm so glad Chris has helped you, your story brought me to tears.......You've got this, the best is yet to come! Stay well.

    It was a great pleasure when I met you in person at ORMS store. You were so humble when I asked you a very personal and direct question. You were so open (not knowing you were a councillor) and gave me your business card and said my amputee friend can reach out to you. I salute you, this video is so inspiring. My friend will hopefully make contact with you in the near future. Keep doing these amazing videos Chris. You are a point of light. God bless you 👌🏻

      At 41 I believe we still have such an opportunity to live well. Im 55 this year and still optimistic about what is possible.
      I also experience depression at times, but I've learnt to embrace it and to try and understand what message the depression is sending me. Usually it's to get help, to have a goal, or to help someone else in difficulty.
      We all find our own way, just as you are doing now by sharing your experience. Someone will read your comments and feel understood, less alone and motivated to push through. Thank you for bringing your experience, I hope its a start to feeling understood and heard yourself.
      You're not alone in this - please reach out if you have questions or simply want to share what is happening for you.

Thank you for helping to come to terms with my handsome son loosing his leg. Love you.

    This is a promo for Ossur.......

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  3 года назад

      Hi, it's really a promo for life, but ill be honest, I do have a preference for Ossur as it did change my life 3 years ago. I could not walk more than a few 100m a day, had constant issues with my health, setup etc, until I was introduced to the Ossur concept of a Total Solution. I have used Ottobock, Nabtesco over the years, and tried others, but this setup changed everything. I imagine there are people who feel the same about other brands.
      If you mean by promo that I get paid to say good things, this is not the case. I will promo any experience which has such a significant positive influence on my quality of life.
      If you're an amputee too I really hope the same experience for you.
      Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏

    • @georgegarner5331
      @georgegarner5331 3 года назад +1

      @@theampedlife I talked with you a few weeks ago Chris. No offense but this did look like a promo for Ossur. I am 55 years old and have been an ak for almost 50 years and have tried most of the microprocessor systems out there. I used to demo the Rheo knee for Ossur a few years ago at conferences/workshops and was paid by them. I did have an older style Rheo some years ago and really liked it, but went with the C-leg on my last leg since is a little lighter and just as good. Honestly, I could walk almost as well on a good mechanical knee but the MP knees do have some benefits. It really comes down to your prosthetist, the socket fit and alignment then the knee and feet. It doesn't hurt to have a little heart as well. It sounds like you struggled alot along the way Chris, but you are not alone, being an amputee is damn hard on every level. That's a fact.

    • @theampedlife
      @theampedlife  3 года назад

      @@georgegarner5331 Hi, none taken, I completely understand your observation.
      The MP legs are really all good, the Ossur and OB stand out for sure though.
      Sometimes its the individuals needs which will make the decision, more than the specs or anything else.
      Along as we have quality of life!
