- Building a very small rocket mass heater out of scraps in my garage so that I can keep doing projects when it is below freezing. I've wanted to make one of these mass heaters for a while, but now I have to because it is too cold to do other stuff.

That wasn't a garbage video to me. I love hearing you talk about all your crazy plans.
Chet McGovern Thanks!!!
Please install a carbon monoxide detector in your garage when using this. Just so when something should fail you know about it before it is to late. In Germany there was a case where a group of teenagers died because of a faulty oven in a Garage that filled the entire place with unedtectable carbon monoxide.
Same thing happened at my old High School, some teenagers went to check on a gas generator that wasn't working properly (they were shop or auto body students or something so it made sense to let them learn) and they were too late to get them out, they suffocated in the shed.
I feel your pain. I have no garage either so I have to build stuff in my garden. Not only does it limit my builds, but in the UK that means cold and rain and too dark to film most of the time. You do incredibly well to turn out interesting content at the rate you do for a one man outfit. Looking forward to see this project and your design. Stay toasty
BrainfooTV Thanks man! I’ll definitely try!
Basically my two favorite creators
I'm slightly confused as to how this is all going to fit together, especially cheaply. But I'm stoked for it. Get it? Stoked? ...I'll show myself out
Skeets McGrew is winning! Hahahahaha I’m almost as stoked as that compressor housing will be!
Im sorry about the cat my dude
Just Cullen thanks! He was super cool and crazy smart!
This video was fire! Haha can’t wait to see the finished project. Glad to see more videos from you!
Tommy Callaway Haha! Fire! 🔥
Can’t wait to see how this Aquaman suit turns out. You’ve put a lot of effort in to making sure it’s done right 👍
As a young HVAC engineer Im super excited to see how this works for you. My work mainly entails split AC systems and other conventional AC systems so something like this that's kind of out there is really cool to see.
so much character progression in one video, I think this is the first vid where I have seen Jairus as a normal human man instead of a brilliant inventor, I rate this installment of the Jairus Of All series a 10/10.
I love this idea! Can't wait to see how this works out. I'm planning to build a rocket stove for outdoor heating. Using electricity to heat stuff isn't wasteful. It can be the most efficient option since resistive heating is 100% efficient. I recognise the issue when things are burnt to produce that electricity, in which case that process is around 30% efficient. The solution: stop burning stuff; use solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, wave, hydroelectric, or one of the other great non burning options to generate your electricity.
Your propane heater isn't burning up all the oxygen if it's still running or you're still conscious. Normal is ~20% oxygen, and at 9% you'd probably be unconscious. It's more likely that the Carbon dioxide and monoxide from the heater are causing issues. 5% CO2 and you'll have noticed it. 0.01% carbon monoxide and you would likely start feeling the effects. Ironically the solution is to ventilate the room, which would work against all that heating of the room you've been doing.
Insulate your workshop. Get yourself a CO alarm and preferably a CO2/ O2 depletion alarm. Better yet use an oil filled electric radiator, I use one on my 300ft² workshop and it's barely on. Or at least have the intake and exhaust external to your workshop with the heat exchanger internal. Then you have none of the air pollution issues with all of the heating.
I want to keep watching your videos because you make cool stuff, so please look after yourself.
Leo Jackouski obviously. I can’t explain all of that in a video. My viewer retention would drop significantly and no one would see my videos. But! You making “teaching” comments like this help my video! So keep it up!
Hey, just gotta say, love your videos and super happy that you're doing weekly uploads. Keep it up, even if it's just a progress update that takes two minutes. You're doing great!
Not a garbage video you're very entertaining to watch regardless of the project. keep up the great work and your new year resolution
Interesting idea and from a concept standpoint it seems like it'll work. I hope everything goes well with it.
This is so interesting, love the idea.
It's not a s**t garbage video! I learned something new and interesting, so thank you!
This is awesome! Radiant heating and thermal mass!
Your creativity is just on point you need like 1 mil subscribers
This man is crazy, you should meet up with the hack smith guy
I really like a video a week. I must say that never is a video of yours any sort of kind of garbage.
Thank you so much for putting one out regardless of your circumstances.
Last night it was -6 where i live here in the us. I can understand that you need a heater! And it wasent garbage we all enjoy hearing about new concepts and seeing you take them on :)
Kamerick Thanks! You never disappoint! Still my #1 commenter!
JAIRUS OF ALL that one video where you shouted me out! I was shocked! Yeah man I love all the vids you’ve put out :)
I feel like you need another one sometime this year. If that’s cool with you.
JAIRUS OF ALL WHAT?!?! Woah! Cool! Too bad I’m not a content creator haha. I’ve always had this idea so long ago that I wanted to build/wield a long chopper esc petal bicycle but I don’t have an aluminum wielder and I don’t wanna make it out of Steele tubing haha. Just a small bit inspired last summer by your vids. Always keep up the good work 👍🏻
JAIRUS OF ALL do you remember what video you shouted me out last time? 😅 I can’t remember which one it was 😂
Nah never garbage. These types of vids give the channel a personal feel.
Also, condolences about the cat, that is no fun
Man talking about those 'hippies' made me realise I really wanna see you build a tiny house
Friggin Boom Toys Yes!!! Me too! I want a tiny house and a big shop! Hobbit hole/Hogwarts style inside.
I've been planning on building a rocket mass heater for my house, when I build my house. So this is a very interesting project to me. I look forward to seeing more of it.
They're very popular in Europe I remember seeing that type of heater in my aunts house in Germany
This video is genuinely better than your usual sellout videos. Thank you for this.
XeXeeD not sure how to take that...
RIP cat It's always hard to see such resilient animals slowly drain away :(
8:38 was the best part :D Looking forward to the build! You should post more videos like this^^ They are really enjoyable.
Evren Uçar 😂😂😂
Great video near the end..first part was all old hat. By the way, I have a friend in Alberta Canada that built a vertical one like this about 15 years ago..works great! It is large and heats the whole house for days after about a 3 hour run.
A rocket stove has been on my list for a while! : ) I’m excited to see your take on it!
Can’t wait! Great project.
Can’t wait to see the other parts
winter suuucks for making stuff, I feel your pain
Colin Wiens totally true
Yo clip that "Oh Yeah" at the end that's some good content
I sit down for what seems like a minute and then the video is over. I love your content
Dude, you could build the heat chamber with some tubing through it and pump water to make radiant heating for the house, that sounds like it would be crazy efficient. I'm going to have to think about that when I do some future projects around my house.
Love the dialogue in your videos, lol. I can't wait to see your finished heater!!
I like the little update videos
That is a scary sight seeing metal tanks being placed on a fire!
I did a thing. Right! Freaked me out and I knew they had big holes in them that I made. 😂
Shoutout from Russia!) Thank you for your videos!)
He wose really cool
Good stuff buddy ,we are like minds , hippies hahaha
A fan to push the heat down might be a must here. As for your heat sync European masonry heaters do that.
looks like a better plan than using propane (and propane accessories) :P
Garbage video? Maybe, but what an EXCITING preview! I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Excited
That's awesome
good luck man i hope it works
Cool video. You should build an under ground bunker
It’s really hard to imagine how cold it is in America because in Australia it’s like 46 degrees Celsius that’s 109.4 degrees Fahrenheit
Caleb Maittlen yeah. That’s hot.
So, you trying to build a version of an old tiled stove. Search them, they functioned roughly like your describing. Usually they didnt have the drum for rapid heating, thought. But they were built standing up and had huge amounts of mass to store the heat.
I haven't ever seen these before! It will be similar but I think mine will be much more efficient because i am using principles from the rocket stove and a couple new ideas.
Hay thanks for the vids keep on duing Awsom stuff p.s. I subbed
Sorry for your loss 😟
Have you thought about using fans to circulate the warm air around the room.
BetrayerDave I already do that. It helps after the concrete is slightly warmed but it is too hard to get enough heat into it. I’m out there filming so I have to turn the heater and fan off because they make too much noise so I don’t have the time to put enough heat out. But yes that is necessary! Good thinking!
RIP cool cat... awesome video!
Keep up the good work and it was an entertaining/knowledge building video like always, sorry to hear about the cat!
Okay, so this is the 2nd time I'm watching this series and I set the playback speed to 1.25 and you sound really manic. 🤣
I was way more upset by the genuine feelings about the cat than I should have been.
Sorry needed to do that also love your videos
Sorry for your sisters loss 🙏♥️
Well this is kinda interesting and a little entertaining at the same time without acting like a goofball, cant stand those kinds of videos. So I watch the last and now the first, guess I might as well watch 2&3 now or sometime even tho I'll never build one of these rocket stoves. Way to complex for me so I stick with a wood stove to heat my shop but it's good thing your not my neighbor..............
Im gonna do something similar cool real use build
Essentially, it's a Kachelofen.
Yeah pretty similar! I've never seen those before.
I aspire to be this ambitious
Awesume
Nice video broski.
7:27 that was the real plan from the begging
Hippies know what they’re doing man! Cool idea and nice video dude
Kaylee Plummer in the next video I talk about how they don’t! Lol
But that’s ok because they try really hard and have good intentions. 😉
Would insulating that space your working in cost alot of money?
Nice
Its not a bad video !
Masonry heater can be built virticaly.
so basically a common finnish fireplace
Similar with some small but very important differences. I've never seen the finnish fireplace before, but i have now! thanks!
Have you considered adding insulation to the garage? A couple of RUclipsrs have done this DIY.
Shifter it has lots of insulation. In the walls, all cracks have been sealed, weather stripping in the doors, and an extra layer of insulation board on the entire ceiling.
@@jairusofall Ah ok
I wuv your videos, they are not shit
What about water radiator? Same idea just water pipes
Andrew Burnes this will be easier and cheaper
Electric heaters aren't that inefficient at the end they're basically perfectly efficienct so all you have in efficiency loss is the 40 loss at the powerplant and another 10 to 20 transmission. What about inefficiency of fuel distribution especially at the small scale to your local distributor using small tanks and then you driving there to grab it. NVM you're starting fires lol c'mon man at this point electric heaters are a ton better for the environment. You could've run it with some eBay solar panels too even during the winter.
Could you time lapse your build?
Practically Prinz that would be hard because I would get in the way of the camera a lot.
500 gal, 🤪. Water can be mass.
Shouldn’t an electric heater have near 100% efficiency? The only way for energy to be wasted is in light created
F for the cat🐱😭✌
You just had to end it on a cliff hanger.
Do you like Pringles?
Who doesn't?
Yup
55 gal drum. Not 500 gal.
Also I’m sorry about the cat. I’m sure he was a real cool dude
GG Bro! check out made in abyss good watch :)
Also, that cat got cancer and died in 3 days?
LockBreaker it’s a longer story than that but I didn’t want to tell the whole thing would’ve added a lot of time to the video.
Hmm it alltel wet
My lab has cancer.
Fuck cancer man.
Nuclear_ Nube yeah. Sucks really bad.
oh wow, am I first?
Justified Joe yes you made your first comment 1 minute befor the other first comment
@@supercomputer0448 Thanks Hal!
Wow, I'm early. Everyone cares
That's why you get this shhhhhiiiii..... cut edit take two..... garbage video. Literally almost spit my drink on my monitor. lol
4 xd
First
I don't want to dissapoint you, but hungarians are doing a slightly similar heater fro a long time :D
