The F1600 is my first step in iRacing. This video taught me a lot of stuff, thanks!

Great tips Gareth. I'll be using these, thanks! Interesting to see the 8k/2k comparison side by side 👍

I started iRacing in the Ray1600 in jan and love it. I tried the MX5 races but found it too much like a demolition derby. Im A class now 7 weeks on and still come back to the Ray1600 as its so much fun to drive .
I find not shifting down until speed is lower from braking or only in a straight line helps in not locking the rear. Mastering the down shift was the thing I found hardest, its so light that you can't downshift like any other car. I think the Ray is the best Rookie class, because it requires skill and practice to drive it keeps the worst drivers out. Just got to drive defensive on the 1st lap. Really like this vid. great work.

Thank you so much and well done on getting to A license so fast. I'm looking forward to racing Summit Point this weekend in it. Bit of wet and wild, should be fun.

It’s called Formula Ford (class FF) in series like the SCCA. It’s called F1600 in other series like the FRP.

Good advice, I will say that I win a lot of races by running safely and letting attrition move me forward. There are a LOT of drivers who just do not know how to run this car. It is even more noticeable in the rain. I strat from the pit when it rains and have never finished lower than 5th

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. I need to improve my rain driving. I'm super cautious on the opening lap and often get someone hitting me from the rear as a result. Then I get overly confident and make a mistake when pushing!

    Best car in the service.

Agree the most fun car to drive.

Awesome tips!! I hated it at first, but now I’m not even caring to move up to F4 quite yet.

Thank you! Don't rush up to F4. It is a genuinely brilliant car in its own right. Have a look at our Prime Season 9 Round 7 race at Watkins Glen to see how good it can be. But FF is special.

4:34 is this because the slip angle is higher on these tires so you can drive around and it looks like you’re drifting but you’re just neutral steering?

Yes I think so. It's a bit of a combination of everything really in that particular corner. So a bit of weight transfer, the track camber, beginning the rotation and then just holding it there. It looks cooler than I intended if I'm honest! 😄

I agree blipping can be smart for less rotation, but you loose so much time with autoblipp. You should learn it or get around it with beeing smoother. To get less rotation is slower down shifts and releaseing the trail break earlier and hold it longer. Its quite tricky but fast. Im currently 6.5k and started in the ford at around 2k when it came out.

@hansjmo Interested in your penultimate sentence but I don't really follow it. I'm at 4k but still a second or so behind the fastest. Could you explain again what you mean please?

    • @hansjmo
      @hansjmo 2 месяца назад +1

@NickAronson When you go on the breaks, and then the corner starts and you turn in a small amount and modulate then rotation (turning of the car) if you release the breaks faster you turn more, if you do it more slowly you turn less. You then balance with break bias. rear break bias makes it turn more. Shifting later also gives more engine breaking giving more rotation. It's a balance, but trying 54-55% break bias in the ff1600, will teach you something for sure. Shifting late helps alot.. but in some cases you get to much of the good and that's where you blipp the trottle to not spin if that makes sense.

@@hansjmo Thanks for explainging, that makes sense now. I tried pushing harder into the corners after watching this video and did seem a bit quicker. Will try focusing on downshift timing and more trail braking next time I'm on.

The quickest start in this car is rev max clutch down and then release clutch not fully, so revs keep high all the time! Releasing clutch fully is quite slow.
I made a video about this (how to accelerate the Miata the fastest way ruclips.net/user/shortsrxRFYnzIXkU?feature=share) that shows delta for comparison. In the Ray it works the same.

Great tip. That will really help ease that slight bogging that the car gets.
