The boost button does work. But the coaster is programmed to maintain distance between the two cars. If one car is trying to boost and the other isn't then at some point the one that is boosting will 'catch up' to the one that isn't and it stops boosting.
Catching up in this case is still fairly far from the other car on the track. The boost also won't impact the speed through the helix or I believe the turn around the funnel too.,

Seems like Royal Caribbean made the better choice with the extra large water park over something like this. The ride seems so temperamental and has such low capacity.
That said, a 2.0 version of this has potential. Make it a 3 car train, and a slightly more thrilling layout and we could have a winner. Imagine a corkscrew with this. I know Maur wants to add that level of thrill to their Spike line.

Very interesting how it's not gravity driven. Maybe it kind of is gravity driven but is also powered on some parts. It did go faster on the valleys.

The fact that it was Carnival and not Royal Caribbean who provided the on-ship roller coaster is insane! Royal Caribbean should do this for their future Icon-class liners!
I don’t think they will due to capacity issues. A two seat coaster with 8k-10k people is way too low.

Update: I just got back from my cruise. I got to do Bolt twice, and that was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the ropes course was closed all week as they were doing maintenance on the stairs, which was a bummer. I would love to do the next coaster cruise with you guys, but I don't know if it would be in the cards. If not, hopefully you will continue to do more of these group cruises, even if not every year because I know they are very expensive

I wish i was there cause i am basically taylor but in the 90s. The most coaster obsessed kid till these 2 came around. Would be awesome to meet someday and share my story on how this park obsession started. Specilly living in a country with no coasters

The app works without the wifi. There are different wifi packages you can pay for.
Definitely seems tempermental. It honestly makes me wonder if a Spike coaster was the best fit for a cruise ship. Especially with its low capacity as well, though that might have been intentional to make peoples wallets dry. But really I think something like an Intamin Hot Racer migth be a better fit for a cruise ship, especially with some small, slightly inclined launches here and there. It'd probably also make it easier to evacuate in the case of breakdowns.
The Spike was a decent choice, anything you install will have issues with accelerated sensor failure due to the corrosive marine environment. Tire launches would do worse with the frequent rain you get in the tropics.
I think it has to be a power coaster to have a chance against the wind they make higher capacity spike coasters but I don’t know how the larger vehicles would affect the ship
You cannot put a gravity coaster on a cruise ship. The slightest rocking while the ship is underway could make the car valley, and they have no way of pulling it back to the station, even while in dock. They would have to wait until the next drydock, and that could be awhile. You won't ever see one built on a ship.
@@Kingramboo I’m not quite so pessimistic. A gravity coaster with sufficient anti-valley blocking set up for its launches could probably be worked out. But it’s also not going to be significantly different than a powered coaster with the number of launches this might require.
As for not being able to rescue a valleyed train that would never require a dry dock. Installing winches and cranes would be enough for some layouts. And you could also have a self-propelled rescue vehicle as an option too. In fact Bolt has one - there’s a diesel-powered vehicle they can run if the coaster has a major issue for any reason. Even a full power loss.

It definitely would be surprising if you could adjust the speed to your liking. I don't know how that would work.
You can but it's limited. There's a speed boost button but there's not a giant difference between the boosted speed and the default speed. Also with two cars on the track the boost may be disabled if you get too close to the car in front of you.
I have been watching your channel for a couple years now and once I am old enough to drive places I will finally be able to meet you guys at theme parks! I am so glad you guys had fun on your cruise.

What do you think of Maurer Spike coasters? I frankly believe that they’re pretty terrible pieces of engineering, they drive system makes no sense on such rides, they’re loud af, unreliable, low capacity, probably not super comfortable, and the vehicles are kinda ugly (weird to see that Bolt’s vehicles feature the Ducati bike bodies like on the Mirabilandia one btw). But who knows, I might be wrong so that’s why I ask for thoughts 😄

I think it's a bit of a cop out for Carnival to call it a coaster, it's powered and shouldn't count as a credit imo. Also having the nerve to charge for a ride becuase they chose to use a super low capacity ride type is so stupid. They could have fitted a real coaster that actually goes over the edge and has proper drops, and with high capacity it could be imcluded with the tickets. They did this just sonthey can market as having a 'roller coaster' because that sounds exciting, they have no incentive to actually make it good
