- It's update time! Summer updates for Ocean City Maryland- what's new and what has closed?
I took my usual drive doing updates as well as a controversial update at Whiskers. While I do comment about it, it's strictly my views. I am not against any type of person, I just feel that some things kids need to be protected. My duty as a father to my kids is to mentor, develope and protect them. With that said, MANY of us were under the impression Whiskers was remaining the exact same. So when I heard on the radio about the recent changes, it caught me by surprise.
Hope you liked my video, thanks as always for watching!

Loving these videos!!! Keep them coming man!!
Favorite place, Sunset Park in the morning, and looking out across the Inlet
hope its a good choice since will be visiting
That place that you refer to as the new location for Odessea Watersports has been there since at least the mid-80s, we used to live in that trailer park right next to it.
Our go-to hotel is the Americana on 10th. We’ve stayed at the other location which was ‘okay’. Our favorite pizza place is Pizza Boy and we love their breakfast sandwiches too! This year we’re going with a couple of your top crab cake reviews. Lastly, we love Crabby Dicks and Big Peckers too!
Thank you for the updates! Have you heard any news regarding the hotel on 101st street? I know the name of the hotel changed a few times.
The old Fountainbleau? It's Ashore now. Or is it another hotel?
It's so hard for me to give a favorite place because I love it all! Been coming to Ocean City for about 35 years out of my 45 years of life, missed some years, and went some other places, but OC has always been my favorite! From the beach to the bay, boardwalk to the Fenwick lighthouse, and even West OC for Watermans and go carts I love it all.
Remember Shantytown Village? Really used to like that place. There was a restaurant there called Oliverios, they are from the Clarksburg West Virginia area, and they had a book in there to sign if you were visiting from West Virginia. We enjoy the Embers Island putt putt, Always like Phillips that is no more, and my family when I was growing up liked the Mug and Mallet on the boardwalk for the blue crabs. My 94 year old grandfather still asks me if I go there, but I haven't heard good things about it over last few years so I haven't gone. If you know anything about it let me know please. Used to always go to Ponzettis for pizza, but I think we are gonna try Ripeinos (probably not spelled right) this year.
Ok, Ill stop going on and on now lol! 😂 Thanks again for videos, look forward to them! Be there in 10 days!
10 days is going to go by fast! I haven't heard much about mug and mallet. Ripienos seems to be the place to go for pizza, a lot of people have told us about it. Enjoy your vacation when your here!
Shantytown was great! I remember going there as a kid very well. I’m 47 so looks like we’ve been going for about the same amount of time.
so sad when Shantytown closed! My fave is Old Town OC near the inlet. We stayed at the Atlantic Hotel, one of the first large Victorian Hotels that had a large pier and dining hall in its heyday. It burned and was redone. The area all around the inlet and up to 26th street are my favorites. Not fond up Condo end of OC.
So many happy memories of my childhood and my childs.
Thanks for the update!!!
Everyday in OC is a great day. Very clean quiet town with so many great restaurants.
Thanks for the updates Jay!! You are definitely entitled to your own opinions and values! And I definitely appreciate your family values!
Thank you Donna!!
Heard Secrets is looking to get into Chincoteague? Heard that while in Chincoteague mid June.
Heard that too, but not sure how true it is. I know some businesses are looking to go down there. I believe Ropewalk just went there.
Surfin Bettys Burger Bar is excellent!!!!
No way!!! I was hoping someone could tell me how it is! Thank you, we'll have to give it a try.
Was there yesterday ordered the pizza supreme
had to take half of it home today got the special
lasagna with a salad Fish Tomorrow
I always enjoy your videos. Thanks again!
We just visited Ocean City on Friday. Walked on the boardwalk, tried Thrashers fries, Dumsers shakes and Dough Rollers pizza, bought a few things and had a really good time. This was our first time there.
Oh wow!! I hope you come back again! Where are you from?
@@ReelJayB We are from Martin, Ky in the Eastern part of Ky. We had been to Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.
Thanks Jay, always appreciate your videos and OC updates.
Thanks for watching!!
I love your videos but I feel like im watching breaking bad or better call saul as you sound like saul goodman from the shows. haha
LOL someone else commented and told me the same thing once! 🤣
Can you do a Flyer over on Frances Scott key hotel i have done a flyover before with my drone and it’s a really good one
Awesome idea!!
Crab Alley
Hi Jay, we were down on Sunday and came home today. Smoke was pretty bad Wednesday. We like MR Ducks and the Angler for the Happy hour specials.
Yeah, the smoke was bad today too. But we had a mid afternoon rain storm and it seemed to clear everything up a lot.
Thanks for the updates! Our favorite place is always on the beach.
Best kept secret in OC is the American Legion, their food is great and drink prices you can afford. Not open to everyone, but if you served or are a son, it's well worth a visit. Our family eats there every trip and you can park in their lot and visit the beach if you leave you legion card on the dash!
I'm going to have to try it! Thanks for the tip!!!
@@ReelJayB I'll be there next week, their FB menu changes daily and the new deck they are building looks great.
Shhhhhhh. It’s already too busy!! Lol
@@MayorofNumber3 🤣 you're right though!
At the legion on Wed ordered the pizza supreme
had to take half of it to go Wed went the the special lasagna with a salad tomorrow Fish
A great fly over would be the Antigua 85th through the middle of it and out onto the beach! Love your videos can’t wait to hit all your top crab cakes spots this summer!!!
That is an AWESOME idea!! I'm adding that to my list for sure. Thank you!!!!!
Think u for the update reeljayb i will be down there next week i hope we can get together for fishing and fishing trips and other updates
If I miss you this trip, enjoy your time here!
Great update! Thanks Jay!
Thanks Eddie!!
Leave kids alone.
I agree with you 100% brother keep that kind of stuff away from our kids. Grooming is what I call it. Have a great day 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
Nah grooming is just the buzzword you saw on fox News and now you parrot it and pretend you had an original thought
If you’re looking for something to fly over - would love to see the progress of the holiday inn - ocean city - the one on 66th street - love your show - love the drone shots and all the update !! Can’t wait for next video !!
Thanks Joe! I'll try to do a fly over next time, it's been hard to fly because of the wind.
hi my mom is the manger of double tree i was wondering if you could do your drone there
Double tree near the boardwalk?
What happened to embers? No more buffet 😢
Nope! They did away with it.
@@ReelJayB ya I know was one of my favorites
One of our favorite places: Holiday Inn Oceanfront (66th)
And I will meet you guys at 2st Bayside and I will be there with my fishing rods and reels combos and yes I will be bringing my GoPro hero 8 black with me and I will bring my drone as well 😊
Great vid 💯 agree not family friendly! Harpoon Hanna’s is our go to place and we like to stay at Assateague Point because they have everything there!
Can you do an update on the old Dunes Hotel? I know its being turned into a Hilton Garden Inn. Was just curious about the changes they have made and what it looks like now. I'm really going to miss the Dunes, my favorite Hotel 😞 Thanks for all the other updates!
Yeah, I'll try to sneak in there with a camera and see what they changed. The outside is real different with the new paint.
aww. I hate change. Give me those old rickety 15 room hotels with wonky wood floors and knotty pine paneling and I'm as happy as a clam. I'm an old fashioned soul who loves the past. 😊
@@synchronicity1470 10000000000% agree!!
I love the beach, the boardwalk, Anthony’s sandwiches, the OC Rocket and all the crab cakes. And we will be checking out as many of the places you reviewed the crab cakes as we can 🦀
Let me know which crab cake was your favorite!!
Best place for giant lump crab cakes is up coastel
highway stop at Woody's on the right
@@jimafton5659 thanks we will check it out!
Was looking for activities on vacay came across your channel good content more people should post local updates of their town like this.
Thanks Jared! Really appreciate it!!
Nice FYI video. Excited about checking out the Frog Bar replacement. Was a go to for us because we loved the view and watching the boats go in and out, and during the cruises a great place to sit and watch the cars in and out of the inlet parking lot, not to mention it was stumbling distance after getting "Crushed" back to our motel. 😋😁 Great update thanks for taking us along see Ya's next video.
The Wedge has been PACKED since it opened, so I can't wait to try it! Seems like a great spot, if you beat me to it, let me know what you think.
Hey Jay, Wes from pa here, another great video 🤘, one of our(me and my wife and 2 daughters) favorite spots is Happy Jacks pancake house. Just a suggestion for the drone footage.
Awesome suggestion!!! Adding that to my list. I really appreciate it!
have they reopened the Krusty Crab?
Where is it located? I haven't heard of it in Ocean City...
Great video!! Thanks
Thank you Laurie!!
I was next to u at a red light I think while u were recording haha. Keep up the good work brotha
Haha no way!! Thanks I really appreciate it!
Nice video Jay. From what I understand about the Chesapeake Fast Eddies who had opened up last year could not come to an agreement on a new lease for the season so the let it go. The owners had an online auction over the winter for the equipment and stain glass and other things in side.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks!
i just had to comment, the storage place being built with what seems to be a steel frame looks a lot safer/sturdier than those condos wooden frames!
HAHA they do look sturdy! Now I know where to go if a hurricane comes here! HAHA
A lot of changes since I lived there. How about fly over the Boardwalk, Northside Park. Wow, they tore up that spot where I went to see the ships!
Harrison’s Harbor Watch, Assateague, and 63rd street Lazy Whale are my main attractions when I’m in OC.
Reviews on Ocean Colony we have been staying there for 15 years for two weeks in August. Now Vacasa rents it don't like that rental company, wish Coldwell Banker took it back.
I've heard that A LOT about vacasa. Sorry to hear it happen to you.
You got to do a drone shot of the Kite Loft when they have all their kites flying over the beach.
That would be awesome!! I tried this year but the weather was terrible.
how bad is the smoke out there on the coast? also im AMAZED Telescope pictures is still around in the days of smart phones. Re: Phillips build they had a fire late in the season an i think they never recovered.
It was worse inland, but we still had it pretty visible. We had a pop up rain storm today and it cleared a lot of it up. It's almost back to normal now.
castle in the sand hotel
If you can- Rt 611 into the Varazzano Bridge would be an epic drone footage- best view going into Assateague Island- We are back to OCMD in 31 days-
YES!! Didn't even think about that since I've been so focused on OC. I'm adding that to my list. Thanks Dan!
Nick’s mini golf 57th street
For me and my wife one of our fav spots has become De Lazy Lizard. The views are great, the nice play area for our kids. Awesome drinks and the honey-do chicken wrap are musts.
Our boys say that's their favorite playground hands down.
I love the oceanic fishing pier
Nothing wrong with the label of LGBTQ+ friendly and family friendly. Judge by individual choices. I'm transgender and my wife is asexual and we are coming with our 2 year old. No need to jump to any conclusions and needing a total division of family friendly and LGBTQ+.
Sorry if you took it that way but that's not what I meant. It's labeled ocean city's first and only family friendly gay BAR. The bar aspect and how they decided to label it is what has upset people.
@ReelJayB Aren't there other family friendly "BARS"? Dead Freddie's, Fish Tales, ect. Only difference is LGBTQ+
@@Krysten_now oasis also offers midget jello wrestling during bike week. I wouldn't take my kids there either. Also, the places you named aren't bars, they are restaurants with bars. And de lazy lizard specifically has a bar separate from the restaurant that is 21+.
@ReelJayB I've personally haven't been there before the change. Though the marketing seems to highlight family friendly pub with a bar scene at night.
There’s a big difference between comedy drag like Dane Edna, or the Golden Gays , And strip tease drag. Anything where people are taking off their clothing for hoots and hollers and dollar bills is inappropriate for children, but no one’s making that distinction between comedy and striptease. I guess it suits everyone’s narrative to ignore that.
Hey bro, any update on what's going into the spot where Tequila mockingbird used to be in West OC
Haven't heard much, I'll keep an eye out for it and see if I can find out.
We checked out Whisker's out of curiosity. It mostly looks like the old Whisker's that has been cleaned up. The Liza Minnelli and Cher photos mixed in with Burt Jones and Johnny Unitas was an interesting touch. The crowd of people looked like the regular Whisker's crowd.
Oh cool! I'm still trying to figure it out....from what it sounds like is its a family restaurant until 9pm, then turns into the LGBTQ+ bar. Which is no different than what Mackys, Seacrets, etc does when they turn into the nighttime crowd. Thanks for sharing and letting us know!
@@ReelJayB We stopped in at 6:30 so you could be right. Looking forward to checking out Wedges tonight.
@@johnnada5041 yes!!! Let me know what you think of it!!
Beautiful views here. We can see some wild horses at Assateague. $5 is a lot for Miller Lite in a can but the conch fritters are good.
It is our favorite, no question😂😂😂😂😂👍👍
Oddly( I would imagine it would be the same but maybe not) whiskers opened in PA... haven't visited yet to know if it caters to LGBTQ
Interesting! I read somewhere the owner of the Whiskers here had (or still has) a restaurant in Baltimore, so I wonder if he did another in PA?
Drag and LGBTQ+ does not mean the entertainment is going to be risqué, lewd, or themed for over 21. Requesting dollar bills to tip your performers also does not mean they are doing anything inappropriate for family friendly audience. They are not strippers. Most of the places the performers simply take the bills by hand and make a tip collection.
It's not appropriate for children. I wouldn't bring my kids to a strip club either.
@@ReelJayB Unless you have been in to the new bar to see for yourself how do you know it's not family oriented? Just because it's LGBTQ+ doesn't mean it's lewd, suggestive, or inappropriate. I'm glad you would not bring your kids to a strip club. But it seems small minded to not check out the new ownership and see what's what to know that it is or isn't family friendly.
⬆️🤣
I'd bet if you tried to take the children to the restaurant they'd tell you the drag shows aren't continuous. That during the day the restaurant is free and clear of "a lot of noise while you're eating" And moderately priced!
It's blackface with gender. Why is satirising, exaggerating, and making a mockery of half the population of human kind supposed to be totally acceptable?
I am coming down tomorrow, do you know what fish are running right now?
Off the beach I haven't heard of much. The bay is pretty much everything...blues, striper, flounder, etc.
That sucks, whiskers has always been one of my favorites. Was my 1st job bussing tables when i was 14 back in 97'. Definitely wont be going back
I'm still trying to figure out what's going on there. It almost sounds like it turns into a gay bar after 9pm? Much like how Mackys, seacrets, etc do the night club thing. Either way, everyone was saying it was staying the exact same, but it's obviously not.
Last fall they held an auction for a lot of the old Phillips stuff,I believe it was held inside the restaurant so I think that’s partly why it looks so sparse. A lot of people wanted to buy a piece of ocean city history. That building is old too-I lived in the apartments back in the early 80s and they were old back then. I heard they were turning the whole thing into “housing” altho not sure what that means.
I just found out about the auction, I was WAY late on that one. I would have loved to go. From what I understood, thr apartments were supposed to be employee housing. But with the restaurant closed, no idea what they will do with it.
I love The Breakers Hotel over the Dough Roller on 3rd Street! Love hanging at the inlet as well
Heading down next Wednesday for a week and so far the weather isn’t looking good at all 😢 what’s some things to do in the rainy weather?
Yeah....I've been watching it too. Good thing is it always changes this early in the year so hopefully the storm will blow past us. Rainy weather is tough because everything here is outdoors. We usually go to Marty's, Alley Oops is another family favorite. Or even the indoor Old Pro mini golf. A lot of people like to go to the outlets in Rehobeth, they have some good stores there.
Thanks for the response I will definitely be checking into those places. Really hoping the weather will change.
It’s probably not your thing. But I like stopping in at either Senor Cigars
My brother in law likes going there!
more condos=more and more mobs on the beach=not so much fun
As long as they stay north and away from the inlet I'm good with that. They are smaller complexes too which is good.
Drag performers are not controversial. Unless theyre doing something sexual in the drag show, it can absolutely be family friendly.
To each their own. Personally I don't think it's appropriate for children.
@@ReelJayB you didnt give a reason why, which makes it sound like you accept your bias without reasoning
@@bigkaytoncampus I already gave it.
Was that a Bar at wedges? Whiskers adds a whole new meaning to the name Ugh!
Yeah, they had an awesome outdoor bar, it was pretty busy when I was there. Seems like it's a grea spot from what people are saying!
Great video like always. We will be vacationing in OC in two weeks. We'll be avoiding the LGBTQ+ family friendly bar and restaurant though. I will not subject my 6yr and 11yr old kids to that .They probably only serve Bud Light anyways and my kids hate Bud Light
I watch your videos to see what's new in Ocean City, a vacation spot. I don't watch to hear your political views. I know it's your channel and you can do with it as you wish, but I'd like to see more videos about what's fun to do in a beach town.
Appreciate the input and thanks for watching! Also, not really anything to do with politics, it's more so my personal views as I said in the video.
@@ReelJayB I love your channel and I always watch for new videos from you. I was in the Coast Guard and was stationed in Ocean City for a few years, and I grew up in Baltimore, and watching your videos is almost nostalgic for me. I currently live in Nashville, and my heart will always be in Maryland. I know our world is inundated with such strong feelings about so many topics, and Ocean City just reminds me of a happy time and place where we can leave all that behind, if just for a little while. I hope my previous comment didn't seem too harsh, because I really do enjoy your fun videos.
@@garysvideos19 no worries at all man. We all have our own opinion on things. Hopefully you'll get to come back soon and see all the changes!
@@garysvideos19 I agree with the reader. Ocean City is a happy time, where (like most of Maryland's Eastern Shore) things are just this side of heaven. On a personal note, everyone getting along is my idea of just this side of heaven. Long live Ocean City, MD and as a longtime boardwalk 'walker' I like diversity of the stores on the boardwalk as well
Someone on a Facebook page was trying to say what they meant by family friendly. It made no sense so won’t repeat it here.
I have a ton of places I love to eat. Hoopers used to be my favorite but they really disappointed me last year.
I think I missed a fire.
The smoke was bad yesterday, but after the storm today it cleared it up.
@@ReelJayB I meant sounded like the old Phillips building had a fire .... and I missed that news.
@@Camaro-Sean yeah they did last year. It was pretty small and they still opened up that night.
oh man really right next to my Kabob place and jamaican food place . Yea so sad im a very open minded person but there is a time and place for kids there definitely needs to be an age limit on that type of entertainment IDK when it changed just let kids be kids .
100% agree! Have you tried the jamaican place? I really want to try their wings!!
@@ReelJayB no we went and it was closed I want to try it out to . But I did like the kabobs place my husband is pretty picky and we try to eat somewhat healthy. Can’t wait to try the crab cakes when we go back but it will be September possibly , hope they still will be open.
Crazy thing, apple bees website where I live, not sure why they needed to put on the website it’s a LGBQ+ friendly place… now I no longer eat at apple bees. I don’t see the reasoning for even having to mention that… so good luck apple bees.
Yeah, that makes no sense at all. I'm 100% ok with lgbtq+, but when they advertise it that way and say it's family friendly...that's when it's a no go for me.
@@ReelJayB exactly
It's due to there being significant discrimination in the country. Perhaps Applebee's is where harassment will not be tolerated.
Family friendly bar sounds like an oxymoron. Maybe it's just a gay bar with bad advertising.
Exactly my thoughts!
Whiskers website says that they understand the 'importance of affordability when dining with a family' and 'they're keeping their restaurant food affordable and modest' for families who choose to eat there. They have a 'Gay/LGBT+ Bar.' I don't understand the hoopla.
I read that also. Sounds like two concepts under one roof. Clearly, Jay needs to go inside and investigate further.
@@hawkgammon yeah not too sure at all. I'll make my way up there eventually and see what's going on.
Agreed. The question isn't why shouldn't kids be there. It's why do guys in drag insist on having an audience of children?
I was saying this to my wife about drag and kids storytelling in schools. How and when did those two things come together? Who thought that was a good idea out of all things?
The best thing for children is understanding others so when they get older they don't wander into saying things that might appear prejudiced, as they may have to hold down employment. Saying to others that "I went to Whiskers in Ocean City when it was gay and had a crab cake and it was good" might set a right tone for working with others in the workplace
Incidentally, after visiting their website Coors Light were $3.00
I wish people would just let kids be kids and stop pushing this stuff on them that they cant even begin to understand, Dick Hales
The best thing is to let parents parent. An atmosphere like that is not a place I prefer to take my 7 yr old son. If you chose to do that, then so be it.
@@davie785 I agree that children don't understand; it's the adults trying to hold onto power and control; that's other countries; not America;
@@ReelJayB Do men like 'take charge' women; I doubt a 7 year old son would know what's going on; like Hooters, I doubt they'd know what's going on, but Mom will; going to Hooters for their wings, a family friendly, Dad's the boss
Loving these videos!!! Keep them coming man!!
Thanks Mark! I'm trying to put another one together soon. Appreciate you watching!
