      I inherited a dressing table from my grandparents that was Annie's. Their neighbor was Annie's grand nephew. His mother was Annie's niece and assistant. In fact Annie died at her home on Greenville. She inherited quite a bit of Annie's items including some of her guns. This nephew had a daughter that was in a very bad accident. My grandmother helped with the other children. In appreciation, they gave grandma the dressing table. I have all the history recorded with the dressing table.

    Fascinating history of Annie Oakley. To be a woman during the time she lived was bad enough but to be able to compete- and win - against men put her in a class by herself. Yet she was still beloved by many and is a historical figure today. Impressive accomplishments and a wonderful glimpse into her life. Thank you again Jordan- you're becoming my favorite channel!!! ☀️😍☺️😊😊😊🦩☀️

    I have been an Annie Oakley fan for years, and I am 76. You did an outstanding job with this!! Years ago I went through Greenville and do not think the museum was there yet. I was heading north and did see the sign for her gravesite and stopped. I have traveled out west several times and always stop at the museum in Cody, Wyoming and there is also a room dedicated for her there. I think one of the things I have read about her young days was why she was paid top dollar for her game by restraunts in Cincinnati, they were all head shots so the meat had no lead in it!! Again, great job!!

Hahaha, I would not like to be the person who makes a wrong turn and accidentally stepped onto her property,because it will be the only mistake you'll ever make again, with her shot accuracy 😅.

    Annie is supposed to also be honored in the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
    When I went thru my horses phase at 11 years old, I dressed up as her for Halloween; I had to use a Dallas Cowboys outfit (complete with faux boot cover ups to wear over my tennis shoes) and a plastic handgun (complete with faux leather holster and plastic bullets) my grandmother's felt cowgirl hat.
    Fast forward 20 years, and they have Annie Oakley costumes (hat, boots, and rifle sold separately) that look much more authentic to the time period in which she lived and performed.

    Really enjoyed this Joran. Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show (featuring Annie) came to Glasgow (Scotland) in the 1890's. They performed in the city for a couple of months, helping to raise funds for 'The People's Palace' (a terrific museum that still stands today). As a tribute to their generosity and popularity, the city of Glasgow erected a statue of Buffalo Bill. Although we can't boast a statue of Annie - the one in Greenville has certainly ticked all the boxes - it looks terrific. Many thanks for this interesting visit.

    • @alancumming6407
      @alancumming6407 Год назад

      @@pistolannie6500 - Excuse the delay in replying, but I thought I would try and find out who promoted the decision to erect the Buffalo Bill statue ( I wondered if perhaps there was a Scottish Buffalo Bill Association). However it seems it was actually the brainchild of the construction company that built the new homes on top of the site where the Wild West Show took place. From what I can find, there does not appear to have been any mention of the possibility of a statue of Annie being considered. Buffalo Bill returned to Scotland in 1904 (can't find any mention of Annie on this visit). That year, instead of remaining in Glasgow, he toured around Scotland. In Greenock alone, 30,000 people came each day to see the show, which was performed in the open air at Fort Matilda. It could be that the second tour managed to reach a wider audience and resonated more in recent memory (I know of someone whose late Grandfather would boast that he had seen the 1904 Buffalo Bill show) - this may have been the reason that Buffalo Bill alone became the personality chosen for the statue - but this is purely guesswork on my part. - Elizabeth Cumming.

    A little more info on Dave you might like to know since he’s a big shot around Leesburg (where I’m living)
    Annie fell in love with Leesburg and often visited and stayed here. She planned on moving here full time and even had a room at the hotel she stayed at exclusively for her & Dave.
    Dave ran out onto Main St from the hotel and was struck & killed. Annie tried to get Dave buried in a local cemetery but they wouldn’t allow dogs so she buried him right outside the cemetery & his marker is still there to this day! (it is now private property.)
    After Dave was killed and not allowed to have a “proper burial” in the cemetery, Annie was left with a bitter taste in her mouth and she would soon leave, never to return to this area she once adored.

    So my husband gave me the gun and I did what they had done … aiming it right and of course my husband constantly telling me how to aim it!
    So I aim the gun and bullseye …. hit my mark spot on! They were very quiet … stunned actually … so was I but never let on!
    I said … “Piece of Cake!” … and gave gun back to my husband. LOL. They call that beginners luck!!??
