    i really enjoyed this video...i'd first want to state that i'm italian and i hope to be able to make you understand my though...
    that being said i have a question about the balance concept:
    in my understanding wing chun structure is really strong at holding strenght coming from front and from the back while is weak when you attack from the sides (i'm referring about the concept of the triangle: to attack the weak sides of the triangle).
    Don't you tink would be better to keep the balance when you push to the right or the left shifting your weight? usually if a force is applyed on sides means that the opponent is attacking fron that side and so i'm not facing him square and my structure is not aligned the right way

    Mr. Izzo: Not sure if this question has been asked, but I am new to Wing Chun and study in Seattle. I am also freaking old.. 48 yrs old. I have studied TKD, Goju Ryu etc but I feel like I am not progressing as fast as I want in WC. I am built kind of like you and it feels like my upper body flexibility sucks...do you have any tips for me to improve? By the way, your videos are awesome! Straightforward and no bullshit!

    100% explanation out of experience and not mimic theory. Btw, do you agree that forward pressure stance excersize can be learned and straightened by pushing against the wall or a tree? Although understandably immovable objects are static but just power-focus-wise?

    In northern China wing chun is known as Orthodox Shaolin. Where all the best moves of shaolin where put into 1 system. Maybe that woman monk introduced it to the south when they burned down the temple at that time...there is no fact in wing chun history cause our awesome system is passed down 1) informally and 2) who cares.
    Great video Izzo!! crazy !! me and a fellow student had this same discussion yesteday. And it was the same stuff... Keep em coming...if kung fu lives in everyday life. in all the movements like taking off the jacket and putting it on..then who are these people to say what wing chun is and what it isn't??

  • @Hitmanequalshit
    @Hitmanequalshit 10 лет назад

    well i dont believe that structure is misunderstood in wing chun in fact maybe is the only thing that its not :P, Structure is the most important part of wing chun and its about maintaining your position and never be controlled by your opponents pressure just like you said... this is the main and maybe only principle of wing chun stance... And in Wing Chun you wait for your opponent if the circumstances allow it, if you get to an ambush situation again you try as fast as possible to make the opponent play your game and control (kill the opponent) the situation as fast as possible and as safe as possible... But in a scenario that the opponent talks you in a fight while he gets ready you have you circle that you wait for the opponent to enter... that way in one in one situation wing chun is unbeatable... because an amateur wing chun practitioner has two moves for one of the opponents, a medium wing chun practitioner has 3 moves and a master has 4-5 moves...

    Nice explanation. You could almost be a hung ga sifu! Your explanation stopped at receiving pressure, which made your discussion defense-oriented, which isn't characteristic of you. Structure is also the platform for generating and issuing the power that makes your hits authoritative and decisive. It also is a tool for breaking down the other guy's structure, whatever it may be. By the way, I commented before about waiting for a chi sao discussion. You provided it, I checked it out. Thanks much.

    I find it amusing that so many people who watched this video want to pick it apart and criticize it. It's not just this video, but most martial arts videos. Not one of you is a perfect martial artist. NOT ONE. As a true martial artist, you should be aware of your faults, weaknesses, and mistakes. A sincere and true martial artist knows they will keep learning until the day they die. They will never know everything there is to know. They will never execute every little detail with perfection. They know there is always more. You spent time to watch this video for some reason. If it was to seek new knowledge, maybe you got some. If it was to compare your study with a different one, know you know where you stand. If it was to watch another practitioner to pick him apart... you need to take a better look at your petty self and answer the question of who you really are.

    good structure (as u call it a myth)is not when you open-spread your leg.u have to train to the normal position and it comes in high level after 15 years of wright trainning.It is not a myth if u see it and feel it(few people can manage)and it is the same with or without power.ok i agree nobody can wait so much but if we follow other way it will always remain a myth indeed.

      Wing chun mas meant to be taught in 1/3 of the time of the other martial arts. If someone needs 15 years of training to learn wc that means for other systems you need 45 years!!! There will always be sifu that need long life students just to take the money from them.... with the right method you can learn good wc and complete the system in 5 years.... and then train your own stuff and make it better and better. Training never stops....

    Why not demonstrate Wing Chun In a fight where there is no holding back?

    • @Altonahk
      @Altonahk 8 лет назад

      because it would probably end in seconds and with one of the participants in the hospital... unless your talking about an MMA type setting, then that wouldn't really be "no holding back" as there would be rules forbidding things like neck strikes. You will notice about half of the strikes in WC are aimed at the throat. Maybe WC could be adapted to be more useful in a rule constrained game like MMA, but that doesn't seem to be the mindset of this channel.

    • @mudfan061
      @mudfan061 8 лет назад

      Altonahk this is a serious question. if you only go as far as sparring (I have yet to even see that) then how will a person know if this will actually be effective in reality. You constantly see how effective Brazilian Jiu jitsu is in MMA fights. Therefore, I would easily invest my time in BJJ. I would like to say the same for Wing Chun. And yes, that would mean you need to adapt to MMA rules.

    • @Altonahk
      @Altonahk 8 лет назад

      MMA is still just sparring. It just has looser rules then most sparring does. Drills that imitate real life self defense are far better at testing this. In the end, it's about experience. Either you get experience by working in a field such as corrections, or you learn from a teacher with experience. I would advise you to read from good authors, as well. I would suggest anything (everything) by Rory Miller.

    Is it a 110lb WOMAN beating a 200lb man you have a problem with, or the weight (difference) itself?
    There are cases every year of little woman fighting off attackers twice the size and weight

    • @wingchunguy3016
      @wingchunguy3016 10 лет назад +3

      ***** The reason it works is because the well trained 110lb woman is most likely going to be fighting an untrained 200lb man if its out on the street. If both are trained then obviously the bigger stronger person is far more likely to win.
      Its the same way they have weight classes in boxing, Floyd Mayweather is probably technically the best boxer around today but you couldnt just stick him in with a heavyweight boxer but if you put him in with a guy the same size who had no fighting experience then he would most likely win.

    • @MThaiKid
      @MThaiKid 10 лет назад

      Wingchunguy - Ronda Rousey is a great example of girl who can rip the arms off of most 'untrained' men, crush them, rip off their heads. I thinks she can likely take trained men her size and bigger as well.
      Not to mention, she's damn hot.

    • @wingchunguy3016
      @wingchunguy3016 10 лет назад

      MThaiKid I'm a big Ronda Rousey fan but if she went in to the same weight class in the mens division of UFC there's no way she would win, she might beat some amateur MMA guys but not proper professionals.
      Also she's not really a good example as she's someone at the peak of her game and also an Olympic medallist in Judo. I was talking more about an average woman who has trained for a few years and trains hard but not to professional or Olympic levels coming up against just a regular guy of the street who does no training at all.

    • @RighteousBeardArts
      @RighteousBeardArts 10 лет назад

      If we reflect on the legend, it's logical to assume that Yim Wing Chun trained just enough to be able beat the ruffian who was harassing her into marrying him. In regular cases, martial artists train to be able to defend themselves against untrained opponents. But being trained in martial arts is never itself a 100% guarantee of victory in an altercation, or a life and death situation, as there are so many factors to consider. It just makes you more efficient and slightly increases your survival chances more than the average person.

    • @MThaiKid
      @MThaiKid 10 лет назад

      Dexter Chu - Well let me help you out with that. (This is not my writing) Source Google Search - The Truth about Wing Chun's Past - Its an interesting read.
      Yim Wing Chun was a mythical character carefully constructed by the art's true founders to keep both its origins and its teachers secreted from Ching Dynasty authorities. "Wing Chun" itself means "Everlasting Spring" symbolizes its founders' focus on the "rebirth" of the Ming Dynasty. During the early 18th century when the Southern Shaolin Temple was destroyed, a suffix was added to the Chinese character "Wing" to change its meaning "to praise." This was a reminder to the art's practitioners to spread the word continuously about a rebirth of the Ming Dynasty.
      Yet even more interesting: The Triads formation was not for criminal purposes, the original purpose was to overthrow the Qing and restore the Ming to power.
      In any case this is a much more believable story. There are many more facts that support the excerpt above. So next time a SIFU tries to sound all smart, you can correct him (or her), on the true history of Wing Chun. At that point I would pack my bags and leave the gym.

    Evolution built in several fighting patterns for man, they are designed to find out who is strongest so females can chose their mating partner.
    What happens?: big blows, pushing, pulling, the lower back gets stiff etc.
    Its all about strength. These programms in the neuromuscular system confine the body to a certain fighting type.
    When someone says fight like a women i hear: "Fuck that comparision bullshit, give him no opportunity to apply force and hurt him in an unfair way." So actually the opposite of strength based competition.
    A smaller person cant defeat a bigger person? It has happened and will happen, even in documented situations like the early ufc and especially the gracie fights.
    I wouldnt say "Wasnt developed by a woman". I'd say "Its unlikely in my opinion".
    But say what you want, its a free internet :) Greetings from germany

    Mr. Izzo. Hopefully YOU understand where my question of "do you think you could of defeated Bruce Lee one on one?" is coming from. You self admittedly LOVE to stir the pot, which in turn gets people thinking, pondering, fuming..etc. Whatever the case may be. And that is good for the sake of great conversation and equally great debates. I admit that I keep coming back to your channel just for that reason alone. You are extremely opinionated and I can't knock you for that because of the simple fact that I am the same way. If you don't like what I am saying then don't listen. Your HIGHLY intelligent fan Mr. Bill Murray who claims that I am childish and retarded for posing a legitimate question does not get the point. I am sincerely hoping that YOU DO. No matter what your answer is it can only serve as a great topic for discussion/debate. I never thought of a lot of the points you bring up about Bruce, but I can't help but to disagree with a lot of them. Case in point your opinion of his second and third hand not being as developed as it could have been. The only other time I have ever heard that in my life is when Dan Inosanto said it in an interview and believe me my jaw literally almost hit the floor. This is coming from someone who was closer than almost anyone with Bruce. So when I hear it from someone like yourself, who may not have even been born but a few short years before Bruce past away I find that a little disrespectful. Now again, that is just my opinion. I was and still am until this day a huge fan of Bruce. He was very influential to me in both my childhood and my adult life. And even though you stand by your opinion that he had no influence on you whatsoever...I beg to differ. Just the simple fact of his popularity alone had a huge influence on the martial art boom that swept the country back then. If he had not brought Wing Chun and JKD out into the light, YOU may not have been the Wing Chun practitioner that you are today. So again Mr. Izzo I ask, do you think you could have defeated Bruce? Keep doing what it is that you do, for without a doubt you have influenced many people with what you bring to You Tube and that is worth mentioning no matter what the discussion....Peace to you and yours.

    It seems like your Wing Chun deteriorates with each new video. In the starting demonstration, you stumbled around the entire time--no real footwork, no triangle. And your pak sao (something between a pak and a gum) 'chased' the opponents punch, following his arm even after the attack was deflected. These are rookie mistakes. Seems like you've been so focused lately on creating click bate material ("list of bullshit sifus", etc), and proving that you have superior wing chun, that you're losing the art.
    Back when Wing Chun was my primary discipline, your videos used to be useful training aids. You had solid insight. Now it's all badmouthing and theory, and it shows in your expression of the art. Refocus on what really matters.
