Mrssewhardtoplease right. No offense to the lady in the video. But I hate when people say that too. Makes it seem like you just wake up one day and god leaves you a diploma or a million dollars at your doorstep. And what about people who were born handicapped or with mental disorder that makes it almost impossible to function properly? Did god purposely bless some and curse others? And why?
My daughter wants to major in cosmetic chemistry. She is thinking about going to the university of Toledo but we live near some manufacturing companies (ie walmart corp office). She wants to make her own plant based body products and lotion. Thanks for the video! Formulating is essential! Keep striving for greatness!
I think I just found my new role model!!! I have been trying to find someone that is a cosmetic chemist and looks like me. So happy to have found your channel!
I'm so glad you made this!!! I've been struggling to find a major/career that I am/would be passionate about and I've been asking God for a sign. This suits me so well because I love diy-ing products. New subbie!!! Btw, you're beautiful. Thank you so much!!!
HalleluYAH! Congratulations and thank you for sharing your testimony of hearing the voice of the Most High, trusting him enough to move forward (in FAITH) even with nerves, joining your WORKS with that faith, reaping the rewards of your sowing AND paying it forward to sow seeda/water the grounds of others! Yes ma'am. I was led here by the ruach ha qodesh (holy spirit 🙌🏿). Undoubtedly, edified, encouraged and empowered to do what I KNOW the Most High has instructed me to do. It's new to me but with Messiah ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Thank you again.
Thank you soooooo much!!! I majored in chemistry right after graduating high school back in 1986. I had an opportunity to intern during a very critical time as I pursued my degree. But in my junior year, a single decision changed the course of my life and I abandoned my chemistry degree. I transferred universities, changed my major and earned a degree in fashion design. After marriage, moving to NY to work in the fashion industry, divorce and moving back to Louisiana, I landed in banking for 13 years. Due to a recent re-org, I was let go from my job in banking on June 2, 2020 and I’ve been praying about my next move. Way back when, I didn’t know cosmetic chemistry was an option. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized I could have had a career that fed my love for science AND my creative side. Just moments ago, I prayed to God about my next move. There is so much for me to consider at 52 years old. Then I came across your video and I got excited!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful information. I plan to do some exploring. And don’t be surprised if I hit you up on LinkedIn 😀
So ironic, I’m from New Jersey and currently a freshman at North Carolina A&T at the moment. I’m majoring in chemistry because I knew I wanted to be a cosmetic chemist so this video really informed and helped me!
You are so helpful. Im currently going to school to get my A.S in Esthetician and next get my B.S in chemistry. Im really looking forward to this cosmetic chemistry industry. I wish you the best in your career. We differently need more black entrepreneurs
So glad I found you! I worked at the National Institutes of Health and worked around scientist all of my life. Glad God spoke to you because your experience and explanation of healthy hair care is right on time! I am binge watching!!! You are a blessing!
@@CurlyChemistry Thank you! That means a lot!! I have watched every video of yours! I recently did a presentation in Polymer Chem regarding the use of polymers in cosmetics and drug delivery!
This video was so helpful! I work in the field but not in R&D and I'm getting my MS in Cosmetic Science right now. I make sure to stay connected with TONS of people through work and school and you've made me even more confident that I am on the right path to land a bomb chemist position when I finish school or even before. THANK YOU!
Love this! This is an inspiration for many little girls freshman girls and perhaps grown girls!!! It’s so nice to see our folks career paths - sharing your “how I did it” testimonials is powerful! !
Most of the people I know graduated from NCCU, go eagles! And you are in my home state! I am from Charlotte now in California... thanks for sharing your passion!
This is the type of video I need! Just graduated with a BS in chemical engineering, but all my life I have been interested in cosmetics and chemistry. Now that I had some time to reflect, it made me incredibly interested to go into cosmetic science but wasn't sure how to find a job in that field. This video provided so many helpful tips!
Me too!! A cosmetic chemist, since 1985. I thought I was going to be an optometrist. I ended up in Chicago, Luster Products was my introduction to the Personal Care Industry. Now in Southern California, and it is a Great career.
I share in your family's pride in you. It's not just because you're a book smart, motivated, passionate, introverted, Capricorn of faith from the East Coast (like me). You peak my curiosity and thirst for learning. God bless you!
I am so grateful for this video, thank you! I am literally going thru the same situation as you did. I got my degree in Biology in hope of becoming an Optometrist, and just like you, I was more inspired by the money than the actual job itself. I found that my passion is beauty, science and creativity. Thanks to you I feel much more confident that this career path is achievable for me. ❤💙💚💛🧡💜
Thanks for this. The Lord recently told me to look into formulating and the chemistry of makeup and classes or something. And I need all the help I can get because Im not good at this science stuff.. Trust me I tried to do it myself before I found a manufacturer.. I have my own lipstick line but apparently theres more "for me to do" behind the scenes before it truly takes off like I want so I really need to figure where my business life is going LOL
Thank you so much for this video! I am current about to graduate with a degree in microbiology. I’ve been set on going to pharmacy school, but deep down the main reason why I chose it was because of money and stability. These past few months I’ve been trying to find what would make me happy. I started a natural bath and body product line called The Oh Honey Co. and I love it. Becoming a cosmetic chemist might actually be cool, considering the fact that I love my little side business and could see myself doing tasks like that on a daily bases. Thank you so much again!
Glamfam suggested through their RUclips to check out your youtube and I can say I love it. I also signed up for your website. Loved your story. God does make a way.
You have enlightened me because I want to be a cosmetic chemist and right now I'm truly discouraged on whether I'm on the right track. Thank you for your honesty. Crazy thing is I had a full scholarship to NCCU too. God sent me to you!
Aww I wish you the best! I've had many discouraging moments especially in undergrad, but stay positive and do what YOU LOVE. I decided to pursue my passion, not the $$$, funny thing is when you pursue your passion the $$$ always comes. It takes hard work, but it's worth it. Hang in there, take some time to learn what YOU want, and run your own race at your own pace. You're going to be just fine! Hope this helps! : )
Great story... and as a black person I'm hoping in the coming years there will be a hair relaxer that doesn't leave a large percentage of black girls almost bald by age 16
Wow, this is amazing! This is my senior year at Hampton U and just yesterday I decided to pursue cosmetic chemistry instead of forensic chemistry bc I have always been passionate about skincare. I am so glad to have stumbled across your channel and to see a beautiful black woman flourishing in the field I wish to be in! Thanks for being such a great role model! Im super excited to explore your channel more
This video really related to me....i grew up telling myself i was gonna be a pharmacist because of the money not because i have a passion for it. Now im hoping to become a dermatologist because the field is exciting. Thanks you so much for this video. New subbie btw🤗😊
You remind me so much of myself! Lol Could you do a video out series on porosity and what chemicals you want based on each porosity? I'm struggling to find products for myself and my daughter, and I don't really have a lot of time for trial and error... In a perfect world, we would be able to use the same products...
Wow I love your story I’ve started my own hair growth line and I’m in school for chemistry because I want to be a cosmetic chemist I’m so excited about my journey !!!!
Your video was really cool. We reallly appreciated your journey and loved it. I'm brazilian, I'm a pharmacist and I've been working here with development of cosmetics around 5 years. I really want to go to USA to work over there and learn more and more. Congrats dear!
So glad I found your channel. I am about to graduate high school and I want to study Chemistry to become a Cosmetic Chemist. My friends and I have been planning to do business and if you can shed some advice for me about chemistry it would be a dream. I am taking AP Chem and hopefully, with your advice, I will be able to accomplish my dream
Funny, because I’m a pharmacist. If I could redo it I’d definitely become a cosmetic chemist. I love the interaction with my patients but my passion is in beauty! You never know I just may do research. This video was well needed
I’m want to pursue a career in this field! I have a BS in Biotechnology and in my second year master program in Public Health! Thank you for sharing this information!
I love that blog swift craft monkey! I embarked on this journey because there was not very many 4c hair representatives at the time. I had been natural for at least 2 years then and quickly noticed how my hair received better results with nonsynthetic ingredients. I stopped cause ain't nobody trying to hear that lol and I just wasn't reaching people because all they wanted was a product. I'm not a chemist. I'm an accountant so trying to fuse that with my natural hair journey has been very hard. However, I do believe I'm finding my passion again to educate and share my experiences and recipes with my audience and it feels damn good to know people in the NHC are out there believing in the same thing. ❤️
Omg your video is so expiring! I subscribed to your channel. I have my license in cosmetology and massage therapy. I wanted to go back to school but I wasn't sure for what. Cosmetic chemistry is so interested to me. I'm always trying to learn more about field. I'm glad I found your channel.
Lol this video just came at the right time I majored in chem and minored in fashion and I literally thought I was crazy, but I realized my passion (cosmetic) in college and I haven’t turned back.
Hi, I am a cosmetologist in Dallas and I have a dream of developing my own lipstick line. Any advice you can give me on where to start I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your video it was very inspiring and the fact that you are a black Woman doing these amazing things is nothing short of awesome.
OMG I wanted I be a pharmacist until my junior year when I realized I needed more creativity. I wanted to incorporate something I love with my love for science. I graduated with a masters of cosmetic and fragrance science and now I’m job hunting. Any advice?
Akeila Dyett Hi! I studied at ISIPCA, I did their EFCM (European Fragrance and Cosmetic Master) though now they offer a lot more variety of degrees (this was the only international program when I applied)
thank you for this video. i'm currently back in school (even though i have a degree in an unrelatied, non-science field) for chemistry. hope to make it as a cosmetic chemist in the near future
It's so sweet that you share all those information!! I'm interested in becoming a cosmetic chemist like you! But I'm torn between pursuing a chemical engineer or chemist degree. I just attend college and want to make a better plan for my future career. Would you give me advice for me about that?
Thank God for this amazing testimony!! Please let us know why some sulphate free formulations are stripping and some are not. I used to think sodium 14-16 olefin sulphate was a "sulphate" because the formulation of one particular brand was so stripping. Then eventually I tried another brand and it wasn't. Also, please let us know those cleansers that sound like SLS but the manufacturer is allowed to put "SLS-free" on the label.
Hello! I really appreciate you sharing your science story its super encouraging because i am also black female i recently rurned 26 and I will be entering a biomedical science program very soon. I have worked in the lab as phlebotomist for 5 years but I was not adept with science in high school and I also haven't been in college for many years 😵💫. I was wondering if you had any study pro tips for obtaining a science degree? 😅
I think your job is so interesting. In another life i would look into doing this. Its must be nice to formulate things. Plus i to wonder why some people breakout from something things and products. Me i break out in general from hormone inbalance but it is still good to know why my makeup products cause me breakouts too
Loved it thank you for sharing can make a video on your college experience.. how was it being a chemistry major, what battles did you face regarding your grades and coursework and personal life. Thank you
I have so many questions for you! I want to start working after my bachelors, would you advise that? or do you suggest to get a masters before you begin working?
I am so happy you made this video, I was really doubting this career choice... I even switched my major from chemistry to biology because I was struggling so bad. I will be graduating soon with my Bachelors in Biology and I would like to obtain a Masters in Cosmetic Science or Chemistry. My only concern with all of this, is that I currently don't have any research or internship experiences. Do you have any tips on what my resume should have when it comes to applying for jobs in the cosmetic chemist industry? Please make another video on this! lol
Hey! Like I mentioned network is key. When I got my first job, I had zero experience outside of formulating in my kitchen. Thankfully networking helped me a ton in landing my first job. If you decide to go for your Masters in Cos Sci then I would suggest connecting with your professors to learn about potential internship opportunities that are offered to current students, the program itself may have connections to other companies that you can gain experience for your resume. Hope this helps! : )
Iveeen struggling to find my passion i knew i loved science though!! so i hope my esthetician license will be graduating the class in july .. i hope it will help fund me so i can go back to school for Cosmetic chemistry
I’m currently working on my products and really need help! I’m not the brightest lady but I would love books to read and also someone who can educate me and help me with this process.
Is a Masters in Chemistry necessary? I have a bachelor's in Biochem. I have been in the chemical industry for 4years now but definitely looking to level up. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
Hey!! A Masters in Chemistry is not necessary, you really just need to have a science background (preferably), I know some cosmetic chemists in the field who have backgrounds in biology, engineering, etc. Go for it sis! ;-)
Omg your story is such an inspiration! I have a huge interest in the cosmetics line. However I got my degree in applied biochemistry, and I’m Malaysian. Malaysia doesn’t really focus on r&d in the cosmetics line. I was just wondering, what do you think would be better if I wanted to pursue my dreams in the cosmetics line? Would it be a wise choice for me to get a masters in cosmetic science?
Hiii, what school did you go to??? I’m moving to North Carolina soon and I’ve been trying to look at different schools and programs to get into and this one sounds superrrr interesting
You know I was going to follow my mother's dream until I was interested in being a food service director this job is really exciting you get to travel you get to go in certain businesses and see what people are doing and also having input on what supposed to be done my mom retired from being a dietitian nutritionist I have a sister that is a nutritionist, I just forgot to put this in the comment LOL and you know I have been blessed I have not used any thing that made my skin burn or allow my skin to break out I've been using Noxzema for the past 36 years and my moisturizers they are just basically natural oils that's it thank you so much beautiful God bless you🙏❤
Tonya, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel! I want to learn more about cosmetic chemistry. I am very interested in combining my two passions: art and science. Is there any way I could contact you about learning more? -Andrea C.
Im a bs chemistry graduated too and im currently working as a product developer R&D in a cosmetics manufacturing company in my country, im now planning to take masteral of cosmetic science.
I love your energy. I am a licensed esthetician and am going to school also, I am almost done with an associate in accounting, I started just taking business classes to help me learn more about opening my own studio and that is how I ended there, For the last year, I have been making soap, cold process soap, it all started with me wanting to make my own brush cleanser, a year later I have played and made a few things, Now this has me thinking, I want to go to school for chemistry because my love for skin and ingredients. I just don't know, I am older you know, and it may take me a long time to get a bs. Any suggestions would be amazing..Thanks
Hey! I would recommend getting a degree in chemistry if you would like a career as a cosmetic chemist in the personal care industry, however if you're creating your own soaps and would like to start a business doing what you enjoy, then do that! You can always take cosmetic chemistry courses online as well if you do not want to invest in a 4 year degree, however I would only suggest this if you DO NOT want a career in the industry, other than that you would definitely need a degree in science (preferably chemistry). Hope this helps! : )

Thank you!!! God gets all the GLORY!! : )

Thank you for the advice!! I am a high school sophomore and I would love to get into this field!
This is a great topic! I will work on making a video on this! : )
Crazy thing! I live near Durham and I’m from St.Thomas!
I'm So Proud of You! Go Girl!
Thanks Almeta! : )
Jersey in the house.. your story is dope a real inspiration thanks for sharing
Awesome story & great advice. My son is getting ready to attend North Carolina Central University in August for criminal justice.
Thank you
You go girl! Motivational for sure 🙌🏽
Thank you!! : )
Ahhhh, I so needed this. THANK YOU! Me next!!! 😆🙌🏽
Proud of you
I have so many questions for you! I want to start working after my bachelors, would you advise that? or do you suggest to get a masters before you begin working?
Should come to BVI next. Love your story btw it’s very inspiriting
You visited my island! Great video! Watching this from St. Thomas USVI!
This is awesome girl you go!!.
Okrrrrrr HBCU! I spent a few years at Fayetteville State, so we road tripped to Central several times 😊
You are amazing!!!!
Props to your journey!
This video was so helpful ! Thank
you !
Iveeen struggling to find my passion i knew i loved science though!! so i hope my esthetician license will be graduating the class in july .. i hope it will help fund me so i can go back to school for Cosmetic chemistry
Thank you! This was helpful. There's not a lot of info in this field
You’re amazing and an inspiration!!
Thank you so much! : )
I’m currently working on my products and really need help! I’m not the brightest lady but I would love books to read and also someone who can educate me and help me with this process.
This video was very nice like how you brought it full circle. :)
Thank you! : )
Go for it sis! ;-)
Wow 2 degrees. You go girl!!
Well done girllll
Omg your story is such an inspiration! I have a huge interest in the cosmetics line. However I got my degree in applied biochemistry, and I’m Malaysian. Malaysia doesn’t really focus on r&d in the cosmetics line. I was just wondering, what do you think would be better if I wanted to pursue my dreams in the cosmetics line? Would it be a wise choice for me to get a masters in cosmetic science?
thank you. You open my eyes!! I am a chemist student and sometimes I don´t have an idea what can I do after finish my career. Thanks
I graduated from NCCU too in 2014! #eaglepride 💖💖
Heyyyy!!! : )
Hiii, what school did you go to??? I’m moving to North Carolina soon and I’ve been trying to look at different schools and programs to get into and this one sounds superrrr interesting
I am actually majoring in this right now as my undergrad!

Tonya, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel! I want to learn more about cosmetic chemistry. I am very interested in combining my two passions: art and science. Is there any way I could contact you about learning more? -Andrea C.

Wonderful info… can u tell me what to look for in a face wash and a face moisturizer? What r some of ur go to products?? Ty for ur input
