For an even more eco-friendly version, find some free 5 gallon buckets from a local store or restaurant! Most of them end up in landfills
They work, but lack surface area which a good worm farm needs. Done both and prefer the stackable models myself.
Cat litter bins too!
Customizable, cheap and effective. Wood Pallets & wire mesh 😊 oil keeps wood from rotting fyi can't believe in need to say it 😂
@Deeznutz002 no one wants oil in their castings can't believe I need to say it
You can cut the buckets in half long ways if you have a lid. I've found that works best
Funny enough I JUST got my first ever warm farm 2hrs ago! Thanks for the nice tips.
Very welcome, all the best with the new farm. Check out all my worm farming vids..plenty in here to get you cranking!😀
BRILLIANT video! Love how passionate you are. Brilliant facts and info every second of the video. Even placement!! Thank you so much for sharing. This video helped a ton!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the feedback
I bought my worm farm bin over 18months ago, lost the instructions & just didnt know what to do in each layer..So Ive just been growing random seedlings in it.Thankyou Marty for your easy to understand video! Best video ever, where Im not confused! Thankyou thankyou..my worm farm is finally about to be born!😁💙
You can look up instructions
Wonderful, it will come together for sure. Keep it as simple as possible to get the best results😀
Thanks mate. Always good to hear an aussie accent 🤙
This man is Steve Irwin of worm farming!
I would like to thank you alot im planning to turn my back yard into a permaculture ecosystem and i live in the middle east i would needs this to get the sand fertile for some terraforming and this helps alot thanks man
So welcome glad I can help
@@martysgarden can you give me some plant species like names of them that can add biomass and add nutrients to soil?
I used to use worm blankets, but the little critters kept eating them and they're not cheap! Now I use a thick layer of newspaper or cardboard.
Yes, it's the way to go, also Jute blankets if you can find them for free are great
A worm blanket is totally unnecessary for this. You actually only need a 2 layer system too.
Great video Marty ,I need to make a couple of changes in my worm farm after watching . Thanks Brother 😊
Glad to help😀
Awesome video , starting my gardening journey appreciate the hacks !
Glad to help
Thanks for your explanation and presentation.
You are welcome!
He's the Steve Erwen of Gardening
Just moved into a house today from an apartment I can’t wait to get my worm farm started for my garden
Sounds like a good plan😀
How’s it going so far?
Yes
thanks marty! love your energy!
Thanks for the kind words! 😀
Great tips Marty. I would never have thought to remove tap
Your welcome, no tap is the go for sure😀
I reckon. The worms and poo block it anyway.
Wow, I can actually watch and comprehend this video at 2.0x!
This video was extremely helpful and well done. Good on yah mate!
Glad you liked it!
Concise and easy to follow, thanks mate
Glad it helped
Thanks for the information.
Any time!
Amazing mate thanks
No problem 👍 thanks for watching
Thanks for that bro👍 great vid🙂
No problem 👍glad I could help
Thanks Marty! My gf and I are looking for some extra income, we figured that selling bait worms may help, possibly even some fertilizer
Yes, others do so I am sure you can too if you have a customer base around wanting these!
Great beginner tutorial and hacks!
Glad you like them!
very interesting thanks
Thank you - very interesting - my neighbour just gave me one of their worm farm
Very cool!
You are the best matty
Thanks a lot for kind words!
How often you water the based and the blanket, and how much water ?
Great vid. I don't plug mine anymore either having flooded a farm. The stench of dead worms is next level bad. My farm seems to tolerate citrus I just don't over do it. Thanks.
A little citrus is okay
Greetings, Marty, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸
Great video and it looks like a super bin.I have had a Can-O-Worms since 2009 and love it 👩🌾👍
Hi Peggy!😀
@martysgarden Hi Marty, Everything looks great and your Energy on this video is Spot On!
@@peggyhelblingsgardenwhatyo7920 thanks
Funnily enough there’s a Lake Windamere here in Australia in the state of New South Wales
@Dante Madden15 hi Dante, Windermere shows up everywhere. I would guess Windermere in England was first. When I'm uploading a video for my channel and I click location there are 6 Windermeres in Florida, Georgia and surrounding.
I hope you are getting ready for winter as we are bracing for summer heat!
❤️Peggy❤️
In the main preview pic for this video, what type of worm are you holding? Is that an “jumping worm”?
What do you do during winter? I live in Northwestern Pennsylvania and our winter is harsh
Great beginners guide 👍 Marty u tricky Devel .lol
Have a great
Life 😁👍
Thanks 👍
Where do you get your worm bins ?
You have inspired me, Marty!!! Im buying a worm farm for Xmas 🎄🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱
Good idea, once you start you will love it when you see the results you get, especially for gardening😀
I did the same it arrived Saturday just gone and I love it. They are amazing. Funny things worms lol I chat too them and the dogs watch me. Crazy in this household 😂
Have fun with yours
Can you mix worm types
Thanks👍
Your welcome😀
So great .
Thanks
Great video!
Celsius to F = (Temp x 2) + 30
Thanks for sharing
Actually it is Celsius x 9 divided by 5.
Tumble weed is a band from Wollongong
Hi marty, great video, I agree with most of what you say, , but I think you do need to make a better bedding at least shredded paper with the coco coir bedding?.
I think we should annoculated or compost it too, they would love it👍
It's just a basic start for beginners,,all
I loved the Can-O-Worms composter, but the trays were to big and heavy when they were full of castings. Also, I lined the bottom of the tray with a black garden cloth. The worms wouldn't eat it and they couldn't get through it to the reservoir below.
That garden cloth is plastic fibre I Micheal. Good at the start to stope them going down
Very good video, going to try it as soon as i am on Aruba. Only one tip (hack so you will ;), dont tempt viewers with those ‘hack’ promises at the end. Viewers who click on this will usually stick to the end, but i for one find this trend annoying as he.ll. Got my prescription, ceep up good vids!
Thank you for the helpful video. Plz what do u call the black pockets u used?! And where to get them
Thank you
It's a store bought worm farm
Coco peat is expensive. I’ve been using sugarcane mulch as bedding instead. Seems to be working well.
Yep, check out my Taj Mahal video,,its all sugar cane😀
Do Canadian night crawlers make good compost.
yes
Thanks Marty great video. So what I'm taking away from this is I should have set my worms up in the top tray, not the bottom 🤔
Just switch the trays, problem solved
Did tumbleweed get in contact with you?
Hahaha I emailed them and told they should support you and that because of you and your channel I bought two of there worm cafe's.
The lady was really nice and she said she would forward the email to there social advertising crew.I hope they get involved and support the little man.
Thanks TG your'e😀😎 so kind. Lets see if they reach out to me soon,,awesome testimonial buy! I would have helped them sell a lot of farms for sure
During hot weather like we go from 24 to 40 most days should I be wetting my worms. I am grinding all their food up sk they get yummy slush when needed. I put a thermometer in and it does get to 30⁰ inside.
I leave the lid open so it cools and wet it down yes
can i have this inside without any issues with files
Love this guy's accent
Thanks
Which worm bin do you recommend? I started in storage bins but don't like to dig them out so much to harvest. I have lots of food scaps I want to use and also want to be able to harvest compost quickly and more frequently. Also should I get more than just one?
Watch this video about my wormery I am sure that will help ruclips.net/video/SrokA70mm1c/видео.html
Love your videos! Which BIG worm farm do you recommend for beginners that have a lot of worms already that need to get moved out of storage containers?
Should I buffer my cocoa choir or compost it with manure? A blue tarp and 6 months seems to help everything in my garden explode come spring. Also friend can cricket refuse be feed to my earth worms? 😅
No meat, in worm farms that includes crickets
How do you keep ants away?
Very helpful. So you keep adding the liquid back into the worm farm. When are you able to use the liquid for the garden--how far in? Thank you from Texas!
When you see the liquid getting darker you can use it then.
Would burlap sacks do instead of that blanket please? I am in zone 8b and we do get occasional snow. What do I do with the worm composter if I don't want it to be in the house?
Yes, you can use Burlap, great stuff. Find a warm dark place in a shed, undercover away from cool breezes. Check out my latest video on seasonal worm farming for more info😀
Nice..👍
Thanks 😊
Haha I used Home Depot 5 gallons thanks for video
No problem 👍
Which is more nutritious, vermicompost or slurry of biogas?
Vermi always wins hands down
I'm really wanting to start my own worm bin for fishing and feeding my pet fish ,one thing I'm unsure off is when you take out the compost for plants etc how do do you know your not throwing away there eggs 🤔
That's a good question: If you really want to learn it all quickly without watching time consuming videos on RUclips, this is all condensed and has a section on harvesting your worms etc: ruclips.net/channel/UCnPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtwjoin cheers Marty😀
nice video sir, where can i buy those stacking worm tray? plz help
Shops in Australia,,overseas Amazon I would say
What about harvesting? How are we going to tell the difference between the dirt and their compost
Great question this is all in the worm wranglers members area. How to harvest and separate the castings. Plus lots of extra educational content
I'm curious here after observing worms mating in my back yard by mistake😮😮 super creepy. Filled with worms and slugs. Look me up if your ever in Baltimore u can dig up all u want there worms every step especially after the rain
Are egg cartons all right to use
Perfect actually.
do you always leave your stickers on? I just harvested some castings and found stickers and avocado peels left.
I just forget, pull them out late
Where did you buy the pods? Or housing for the worms?
I can't remember now, but lots of places sell then that have gardening products.
do you leave water out to get rid of the chorlene fluoride ? I was told that it kills them
Yes, for 24 hours
How do you know how many worms to take and how many to leave?
How fast do they reproduce?
Who do you sell to? How much do u charge
I would recommend you do this first, then ask me any questions after you have learned how to farm worms worms ruclips.net/channel/UCnPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtwjoin this is this first solid steps to get you up and running
This was excellent, really got me psyched to start raising worms! What do you think of making worm farms from 55 gallon plastic drums? I have a bunch of them currently used as holding tanks while we wait to build, but I was thinking of starting a small worm stand/bait shack business once we have our home built. I think three 55 gallon units would be a good start if I can build them right!
They are a good way to get started. Down the line consider surface area for more production. There are lots of ways you can breed them for a bait business with worm castings as well.
@@martysgarden I saw some videos on splitting drums for more surface area, think I even saw one you did with a metal drum? I think I’ll do a couple different methods and see which I like best
I would recommend you do this quick video course on my channel@@smallhousebigdog then you will be sorted and will be able to make the best choices for your set up. It will save you a lot of time and help avoid bad advice ruclips.net/channel/UCnPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtwjoin Level 3 has it all. Happy New Year Marty
Have you tried raising black soldier fly also? Your in a perfect location I think
I havent yet no
Ok my first problem might be home made worm beds & the second might be using about 15 red wiggles fishing worms
Homemade worm beds are okay. I am just showing the best way to get started as a beginner with minimal effort for maximum production
Something I’m wandering is what to do with the worms as they reproduce I would like to create fertilizer as well as sell worms also
So when and how can I separate the worms as they reproduce and put them in new farms to grow my from the first batch of worms I purchased
Hi i want to ask from other video i learn that the liquid is not worm tea and is not good for vegetable plant. Is it really not a worm tea?
I teach all about making your simple worm tea that comes straight from the farm in the level 3 Worm Wranglers members area. ruclips.net/channel/UCnPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtwjoin Thanks Marty
Is it ok as it is the coco as some people say it’s salty??? Do you wash it out before putting it in?
The packs you get from the worm farming companies are already pre washed. The cheap stuff you need to wash and few times😀
My worm blanket only lasted a couple of months, and it wasn't that cheap.
And I'm not buying another one. The worms will just have to man up.
@Frank Philpott do your worms have 6 packs yet
@@spook6473 My worms need Combantrim
I want to start use one but it's about to be fall/winter , should I wait until spring ?
Yes best to wait now
Our summers here get to 120 F. Super hot. Will they survive in this kind of heat even under shade??
You will need ice bottle wrapped in blankets to cool them
How long must you leave your worms before feeding them for the first time? Must the worms be on the surface as an indication that they are hungry?
If the food is fresh once the bed is settled you can feed, 1 to 2 days is fine
That table cloth is my Hmong people. Pretty
Yes, that's where i got it from! I used to live in Thailand and even had a Hmong friend
was not aware that you can give them cooked rice/ oats ?... I dont know what has got in under the lids but have these type of large larve that has grown.. not sure if horse flies ??? but they are nasty.. it was after i put in all the juice pulp ...
Yes, sounds like a fly,,,rice and oats are a good food source for the worms😀
How does this prevent mold I’ve tried and ran into a mold issue on top my soil
Maybe it’s micorryzal fungi starting in your farm that’s common
How many trays can that stackable hold?
Two trays😀
Marty- can you please tell me what kind of boba you’re using. I see there’s a spout at the bottom of your barrels and I think that’s super smart!
I am unsure what Boba is? Do you mean bedding?
@@martysgarden I meant barrels*
@@dafoodiebaddie4314 it’s a store bought farm
@@martysgarden thank you!
The worst thing you can use as compost is shrimp shells. They take forever to decompose. Your neighbors will hate the smell & you may have to pay a steep fine.
Hi marty, would it be ok to keep the worm farm in a warm dark shed mate please ?
Love the video mate👌
Yes, they like the dark as long as the temperature is stable Graham
@@martysgarden thanks marty mate👍
Ya need a light to keep ‘em from climbing the walls … 2 months later I’ll bet you’ve discovered that
Yo you gotta seeooookk it
Hi Marty😊
Morning Rick, enjoy your Sunday mate😀
@@martysgarden likewise Marty
Can i use peat moss instead of coco coir? Peat moss is easier to find in my area...
yes you can
@martysgarden thank you for your response &helpful tips. I've read that I shouldn't use it because peat moss ph is 5 or 6, although I haven't tested it myself yet... 😅 I've read they can digest acidic foods so was hoping it wouldn't cause my red wigglers any harm. Thanks again and have a good day 😊
Worm bin to protect from ants and rats. Pls share
Pest management is available in the Worm Wranglers level 3 members area. Rats use chili powder
way to go channeling your inner Steve Irvin 😅
Thanks for the kind words, Steve was awesome!
Shouldn't that compost liquid be diluted with water?

It's to do with feeding and migration. If you want to learn it all with minimal fuss I have quick course videos in side my channel ruclips.net/channel/UCnPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtwjoin thanks Marty
Will they reproduce this way too?
Yes, they will
I have heard that dried out onion and citrus, out in the sun for days I guess and crushed up is worm food.
Do you know the Weedy Gardener? He showed doing that. The onion peels were like dried thin and crackly.
Perhaps the process breaks the acids down. It's only the peels anyway, right?
Yes, that works, citrus skin actually make great fire starters when dry. The Weedy gardener lives near me somewhere
Great video after I started my first worm farm, but I'm uncertain about the next step. If you have a video, please send me the link. regards
