As for the helmet one, for real. I don't understand why some parents dont insist on helmets, especially on Fourwheelers and other such ATVs! My nephew (15) HAD a helmet on and still got a concussion and broken nose. Without the helmet he most likely could have cracked his skull or died. I hated helmets as a kid, but I have been saved a lot of grief by wearing one lol
The alternative high school in my old town (a rural Midwestern town of 40,000, no less!) was such a hellhole, the one thing that never changed among people who worked there - and they all had their own reasons for choosing to do so - was that the school should have a urologist and a gynecologist on contract to sterilize all the students upon admission, and that girls who arrived pregnant who had their babies should have them taken away for adoption immediately after birth. This was all I could think about when I tried to watch "Scared Straight." The school was originally in a downtown office building, and then was relocated to a closed elementary school in a middle-class neighborhood. The people who lived in that neighborhood petitioned successfully to have it moved back, because of all the drug dealers who openly hung around all day long. I told that story to a woman I know who teaches at a high school in the city where I live now, and she told me that the alt-schools here have stricter rules than the regular schools, so kids won't be tempted to misbehave so they can get sent there.
My scared straight moment was my first day of University. Immediately realized it was an expensive indoctrination station. Learned a lot more in the real world than you could ever learn in an adult daycare centre.
I remember the time bf and after reality TV. The first reality TV show in my country was "big brother" and everyone and their mothers were glue to the TV at that time. The fist one was not really scripted, knew a girl at Uni that had been in that first season and she was actually bullied for that. She went to uni later her late 20's and was on our uni media team, ever time she tryed to do interviews for the uni paper, she got teased about some weird stuff that happend to her during the show. Seeing how badly people treated her, even about 6 years had pass at the time from her being in the show, actually made me not wanting to go on any TV show.
I learned a lot from super nanny. I think it’s meant more as an educational show. It helped a lot with my autistic son. Very well behaved child. Like parents with average children get embarrassed at how snotty their children are compared to my autistic child. His behavior was extremely hard work. Best you can really hope for with children is that you don’t screw them up too bad lol. Ps those nanny’s really are British royalty nanny’s and, their tips absolutely work. It’s great because no corporal punishment ideas that actually work are rare.
I'm guessing for those 'Extreme Home makeover' shows, they didn't even look into paying off the family's mortgage. Just doing that would have helped them so much. Without that, the money for the mortgage could probably easily have covered any property tax increase and they'd still have some left over for quality of life improvements, like better/more food. Of course, just selling off the new home should have made them a huge profit unless they were foreclosed on...
People who dont wear helmets are dumb. The day after my birthday (May 15, i just turned 14) this year, me and my friends decided to go for a bike ride down our steep hill. Its a 3 mile ride, all down hill, so we were going about 30 mph. All of a sudden, a car come out of my blind spot. There is a gorge on one side of the road, and an upward hill on the other. The gorge is filled with poison ivy and black berry bushes. From the angle i was at, i could get out of the way on the hill side. So i barley missed the car, and began to roll in the blackberry's. The side of my leg was completely destroyed, but my head should have been worse. it had scrapped on the side of the pavement for about 10 seconds. But because i wore a helmet, i still have my 2nd ear and eye. It protected my face from hitting the ground. Although the signature from Danny MacAskill from the sea otter classic (i raced downhill) was almost gone, im still super lucky. Wear a helmet kids. Oh yeah, the car drove off without checking on my, so i had to call 911 by myself with my Iphone. It was ok though, it was in the pocket that didn't hit first contact with the asphalt.
A convict named Macintosh scared me and my friends, but all his stories were from movies. Another time Macintosh came out with Lindsay Lohan, and sure she was in jail at the time but it was weird.

The only stupid thing these people did was to sign that contract that basically gave the crew full control over their lives. One time, in the German version, they even had the family dog put down to get an emotional scene when the children wouldn't play along. This, obviously, triggered a massive shitstorm. Not just a shitstorm like what Logan Paul got after his suicide forest vlog, where you can just make puppy eyes and everything's over. In terms of media backlash, that one was more like a single guy going "Honestly, I don't like you all that much" compared to what happened to the show's producers. From what I know, which is admittedly not much, the entire crew never had another job after this, all their NDAs were nullified, which added even more fuel, and the company that made the show was shut down as well. Every single German speaking person went full on John Wick on their asses, and it was glorious.

The problem with the shows that try to change kids is that the parents return to their old ways after and the kids never get the discipline they need.
Or these shows create drama by confusing the kids and forcing them to play along.
