      For a smaller wrist, Royal oak comes in 37mm with same finishing and quality. No such option from overseas or I would consider it. I also have a 16cm wrist and the overseas’ rigid bracelet outcropping overhangs my wrist when I try it on, as it does yours. I’ve tried to want it many times (especially dual time) but it’s just too big for me.

    Tim, the thing you didn’t mention in your review is that the movement of the AP is clearly undersized for the size of the watch. Although the market values the AP more, I think the VC has more investment by the company in the watch.

    Owned both the AP 15400 and a 2nd Gen VC 49150 at the same time. I can tell you the AP is the ultimate scratch magnet, no matter how careful you are, 6 months on the wrist and it will look tired. The VC is a far more durable . That said, I’m flipping my Rolex,s and buying a blue dial AP chrono and a VC 4500 black dial. They are both outstanding watches and I couldn’t decide which is better. I own the AP Royal Oak 15400ST with the silver dial. One of the last ones ever produced before the new 15500 series was introduced without the silver dial option. The only complaint I have with it is the bracelet. No extension link for when your wrist swells. Other than that it is the perfect watch. Keeps time to within 3 seconds a week. I love that Overseas! Now, that said, the word “Overseas” implies that it’s a traveler’s watch and the most convenient complication on a traveler’s watch is a GMT with rapid adjust 12-hour hand. I think that’s what they should do and they could place the 24-hour indices on the outer dial ring where they currently place the sub-minute indices as sub-minute indices are unnecessary on a non-chronograph. Especially when those said sub-minute indices frequently don’t match the frequency of the movement anyways.

    • @gpearce11
      @gpearce11 5 лет назад

      JumboJetPilot There is a dual time version of the Overseas, released in 2018, which does feature a quick set hour hand. The Overseas also launched in 2016 with a World-timer along side the three hand and chronograph.
      I definitely prefer the dual-time though, because it’s about 2mm thicker, but otherwise identical, to this 41mm three hand.

  • @BenTramer

    My feeling, based on my experience trying on watches, is Tim over estimates how small of a wrist can wear a large watch with good proportion. I have a 18cm wrist and I feel this VC is too big for me. I wouldn't want to go much above 50cm end link-to-end link on my 18cm wrist.
    lol @ "if I had to guess at the fabrication".

    • @gpearce11
      @gpearce11 5 лет назад +3

      Mark S He tends to refer to the absolute minimum wrist size the watch can be worn securely, because a watch too big can slide up and down the arm, or even off the hand, if it’s too small. Also, some people still like the look off a large watch, and his recommendations tend to factor that in.
      So you’re right that if you have a preference for smaller watches, you definitely need to add at least 2-3cm onto his recommendation.
      That said, as someone with a 20cm wrist that could pull off an IWC Big Pilot, I tend to worry if it’s too small, rather than too big.

    • @pingdingdongpong
      @pingdingdongpong 4 года назад

PP & AP have been doing that for years. VC makes a new movement but with antique technology: no hacking, no silicon, no full bridge, no free-sprung balance...it's barely an upgrade over the previous Frederic Piguet (I think it was?). Jaeger LeCoultre made movements for VC , Patek and many other brands. The third generation is definitely an in house movement. VC has history, however, I believe they have fallen behind a bit. JLC should be in the holy trinity. The overseas doesn’t have an anti-reflective crystal, a must at this price point. An expensive watch in steel, not in a precious metal. I’m considering the overseas, although, very pricey for other options that should also be considered. I love the blue dial for the VC, my blue Submariner dial is stunning with the ceramic bezel, tough to beat.

    I know it's not, but interesting my wife said this looks like a competitor to the Datejust, not an AP or Nautilus.

    People would say Overseas over RO, but majority of the people who are willing to spend would buy RO

      Boiskk O royal oak is king, or nautilus. This is the more modern of the 3, but most wont recognize it. I found out about the existence of this many years after knowing of the nautilus and royal oak. And most celebs also wear AP not the overseas

      @lc4033 5 лет назад

      Thats true, main reason because you can show off the RO. nobody would recognize the VC.

    The biggest problem for AP is that it looks cheap, and that it made bya blind designer. I have never seen such an ugly watch, with no a design balance. ill go for the vc
