    It really says something about a synthesizer that, almost 50 years after its creation, is not only brought back by popular demand, but that popular demand is still so great that they sell them faster than they can produce them.

    It's so damned close to the original, yet there is a subtle but dimensional difference in terms of the bass, a fourth dimension. I still don't know exactly what it is about my Model D from 1973, but it is the real Cthulu. The real Kraken. It's almost horrifying. Beyond enormous. It emerges from the center of the earth. And engulfs everything.

    • @etc834
      @etc834 4 года назад +5

      It's actually the exact same. All the internals are the same from new model and old model. Though the older ones have some wear which can make it sound different, but eventually the new ones will sound old

    • @singlesideman
      @singlesideman 4 года назад +2

      @@etc834 the only thing that I'm aware of that really changes with the components over time is that the capacitors gradually leak and lose capacitance, which just makes the instrument flat in pitch, which can be adjusted by retuning the instrument. The real question is what kind of components are being used. The diodes in particular are the most critical when it comes to tone, namely germanium versus silicon.

    • @anoniconoclast2030

      No way is it in tune from top to bottom. I have had 5 vintage moogs and even the two that went to a tech for a complete overhaul were not in tune over the entire range. One of the techs was the considered the best moog tech in the world. You need to put a tuner on your mini. It will be sharp or flat in the outer ranges or you have the only fully in tune vintage mini in the world. The reissue is better in every way. The action is better due to no j wires. Midi. Touch sensitivity. Another mod source etc.

What persuaded me was the fact that they can be integrated with my modular system, but I haven't even done that yet, still playing around with what this combo offers on its own, which is amazing enough. There's a neat way to emulate the fixed note sub oscillator function of the minimoog by the way... (connect pitch CV and gate out of Sub 37 to pitch CV and gate in of mother 1, and connect keyboard and gate out of mother 1 to pitch CV and gate in of mother 2 - it won't transmit the pitch of the sub 37 like it does with midi. Instead the oscillator pitch of the second mother remains steady).

    i'm just way too indulgent! i have a voyager and a little phatty, but no 3 has to be a mini! should i promote my "guilt factor" by blowing another 3 odd grand? LOL!

      @fooloof traded my voyager XL in the get reissued mini in 2016 because Eye just bought my voyager 2 months prior. Loved the voyager but my dream keyboard before Eye even knew what synth was, was a model d. So know that Eye have my model d and Matriarch Eye know Eye made the right choices.

    I can’t believe you can get the mini moog 100% free as an app and use it in combination with a midi controller

      Arturia Mini V3 was free and it's an emulsion of the Minimoog.

    it is amazing to me how many of these sounds my 10+ year old $300 Micro Korg will match or in many cases exceed. i suppose the cool factor is somewhat lower,... oh well.

      Very good point. I have a ms2000 and it's even phatter than my mini. The problem is I can't fit it in a mix. But if I want just one sound to be the whole mix, the ms2000 is my first choice. It's a monster.

    @doctor mix hey guys, just wondering if you know if the model d reissue is as smooth and subby as the Moog voyager for deep baselines or is the model d more suited for mid range and funky basslines... Sorry for a bit of a amateur question but I'm trying to make my mind up with the two.
    Voyager has all the features I like on a mono synth but wondering if I just spend that extra for the grand daddy of all moogs. But if the cutoffs around 10 or 9am and there isn't much deep low end I'd probably stick with voyager...
    Thanks

      Matthew Carter I own a little phatty, sub 37, mother 32 and a voyager and just recently bought the model d. I have to say it sounds better all around. It has a better bite and grittiness to it compared to the voyager and it excels in low end. Just my 2 cents.

      I am surprised Moog didn't come out with a miniature D ( mini-mini D? ) for eurorack format, similar to their Mother 32

    If I didn't already own a Voyager and a Macbeth Micromac D, I would have got the new Model D. It is an awesome piece. Moog took too long to bring it back and Macbeth essentially brought us a "vintage Moog sound" desktop with more features than the Model D, years before this reissue.
