"The doors of Darkplace were open. Not the literal doors of the building, most of which were closed, but evil doors. Dark doors. Doors to the beyond. Doors that were hard to shut because they were abstract and didn't have handles. They were more like portals, really." lol I love it.
The lord moves in mysterious ways. Sometimes he might come in at an angle. Other times he could hover, and swoop. Sometimes he can come in from beneath, like a worm or a mole... I actually love Julian Barratt.
Love this show...my favorite part is when Dean/Thornton is randomly in a different colored coat and firing the shotgun all over then suddenly he is back to standing with his hands in his pockets. :P
Wow, this is brilliant!!! I mean, wow, being professional actors all of them and making false scenes or bad acting on purpose is very dificult, my total respect and admiration for this crew!
Not only does Darkplace as a concept and a comedy touch on everthing I love, it is also scored beautifully. Sci Fi ran this thing one night, I believe it was just this ep, and it was so odd that I had to keep watching it. When I finally let my cognitive dissonance adjust and went back and watched it again, I realized this is one if the best fucking things I've ever seen on TV.
Not sure why I never laughed at this. The writing is brilliant. "All I do is sit down at the typewriter and start hitting the keys....Getting them in the right order! That's the trick." Would definitely watch more.
it's so much more difficult to effectively write a "bad show" while being aware of its badness--consequently, this sh*t's pretty amazing, and funny! also, a flamethrower is not the ideal weapon against the undead. but it was pretty sweet to see it in action.
i exploded when richard was firing the shotgun in one shot, then the next he was just standing next to dag with no gun, and the next he was firing again. special mention to the gravestone blowing in the wind too - there may only be 6 eps but so detailed!
this show just keeps on serving up stuff the more you watch. I've seen this ep about three times now and never noticed 'Dean Learner' copping a feel at @3:47. lol
No problem. Also the cat voice saying "JUST LEAVE!" became a catchphrase amongst friends. And someone would always follow up with "Funny, that cat just asked me to leave!" Liz was the best.
Ha it brought a smile to my face when I read your comment because I love that bit and you just reminded me of it. I haven't seen it for a while because I left the dvd at my old flat. Thanks for reminding me. :P
The entire Darkplace television soundtrack; this can be accessed by either clicking on the picture of Liz Asher in the set-up menu (this method works only if you are watching the DVD on a PC), or selecting One Track Lover to listen to and pressing 'previous', or by using your DVD player's 'Go to Title' feature and then entering the title number 19. The soundtrack is approximately 38 minutes long, and is divided into 24 chapters.
I've never noticed that before, but that's one of the great things about the series, every time you watch you see something you missed, especially in the background.
its my first episode for the first time..ive been watching IT CROWD so much that i keep watching evrything about it.. then i read a comment about DARKPLACE..lol EN BREF , I LOVE ITTTT NOW going for the second episode lol
If I were a network executive and this pilot came across my desk... I'd sign on for it with at least a 4 season contract. This would have one of the biggest cult followings ever!!!!
Too many class moments to list, the swaying tombstones, the hand on the arse, the slightly too long walk into the graveyard with the corresponding synth note, etc. etc.
The fact the tombstones move in the wind amongst everything else about this scene/part 3… incredible comedy. Sadly goes over so many people’s heads.
Reed's random shotgun fire always cracks me up.
I can't believe I JUST discovered this. Probably the most amazing show I've ever seen in my life.

I actually love Julian Barratt.
Richard Ayoade firing the shotgun brought me to tears of laughter the first time I saw it haha. I wish they would put out a US DVD release.
LOL, I love the part where he feels the lady up as she's crying.
And his hand that has like a clay evil sign on it.

"I kept thinking about Larry and how inconvenient his blowing up had been." So damn funny!

also, a flamethrower is not the ideal weapon against the undead. but it was pretty sweet to see it in action.
My favourite moment of this entire series is the shot of Liz crying for no reason. AMAZING.
"I'm sure we all feel that he exploded to young" This is damn funny. As is Julian generally.
So good, a bit of a prequel to Mighty Boosh which I think aired very soon after
i exploded when richard was firing the shotgun in one shot, then the next he was just standing next to dag with no gun, and the next he was firing again.
special mention to the gravestone blowing in the wind too - there may only be 6 eps but so detailed!
2:20 "well that'll stop him" LMFAO, total overkill with the magnum, random shotgun blasting, and a flamethrower.
like no joke, my friend and i couldnt stop laughing. i actually couldnt breath for a good while, thats how funny that whole scene was!
Thanks so much for posting this! This show is hilarious - I love the tombstone blowing in the wind!
I love how Dean only really starts "acting" when he's acting opposite Garth.
This is seriously the best show ever made. I love Learner just shooting into the air.
My god where has this show been all my life.
this show just keeps on serving up stuff the more you watch. I've seen this ep about three times now and never noticed 'Dean Learner' copping a feel at @3:47.

The tombstone fluttering in the wind is a nice touch.
"sometimes he'll come in at an angle"
3:45 Reed holds her ever so gently.
"That's the mother Rick!" im crying
the ending is class!
I've never noticed that before, but that's one of the great things about the series, every time you watch you see something you missed, especially in the background.
wow.. this has an amaaazing selection of comedians in it..
Oh yeah - didn't notice that the first time round! Love noticing things like that in this show!
its my first episode for the first time..ive been watching IT CROWD so much that i keep watching evrything about it..
then i read a comment about DARKPLACE..lol
EN BREF , I LOVE ITTTT NOW

Matt Berry, Richard Ayoade, AND Julian Barratt?! It doesn't get much better than that.
A show that blew up to early. GOODBYE!!!!
just discovered this, so amazing
Woah! Julian Barrett as the priest! Missed that first time!
A lofty peak in the world of Coarse Acting!
Pure gold.
just saw this show tonight. im in wuuuuv :D
If I were a network executive and this pilot came across my desk... I'd sign on for it with at least a 4 season contract. This would have one of the biggest cult followings ever!!!!
After watching the rest of the series I regret my negative comments, another enjoyable series from a few funny blokes. Peace
I love how the headstone moved around during the "dramatic scene".
I love all the continuity errors!
Love this show
yess brand new season of six feet under
ohhh man..this is the best ever.
seiously..the best.

yep.
im telling everyone i know about this show!
"That's the motha, Rick!"
That guy in the back with all those side comments is perfect.
" . . . doors that were hard to shut b/c they were abstract and did not have handles" -- LOL, yes, my new favorite show now
Love the fact he's wearing the sling for no reason at all!
Also at 3:30 the gravestone to their left flapping about.
LOL what a great show!
Well done Ladds!!!! ;)
Australia needs you!!!
That music while he's driving the car is actually pretty cool. I could see it working well in a serious movie.
i am in love with julian's voice.
"like a - mole..."
it's partly brilliance because 6 episodes isn't enough for it to get old
Well done Ladds!!!! ;)
i love the soundtrack - reminds me of twin peaks
I know, I totally lost it at that... Also jealous... because Richard...
"And right now there's a half price sale on weird..."
I love this show!
I love this stuff! "good god thats alive" and sanchez with his karate pose, a total pisser.
it's moss from IT Crowd and the boss. ths is so funny tks for posting. i think the lead character is in Free Agents da new show on channel 4.
Too many class moments to list, the swaying tombstones, the hand on the arse, the slightly too long walk into the graveyard with the corresponding synth note, etc. etc.
Reed with the shotgun is hilarious!
Love the gravestone at 3:30
i agree. briliant!
This is fucking amazing.
hah. i love that the grave sways with the wind
'Let's just say I'm window shopping, and right now there's a half price sale on weird.'
One of the things I love about this show so much is that you can tell it ran on a low budget. Look at the flimsy tombstone around the 3:28 mark. :)
I assumed they'd done that intentionally with a piece of fishing line or something to accentuate the "low budget 80s vanity project" theme.
Yes, I agree. I like their sense of humor.
awesome
this show is fucking genius! how did i miss this first time round???
Show Howard Moon a boundary, he eats the boundary. Show him a priest, he becomes the priest - comin' atch yaahh.
Sublime
Best. Minute. Of. Shooting. Ever.
"That's the mother, Rick!"--BANG!!!
2:21
"Well that'll stop him"
LMAO! So funny!
Hahaha this series is so freakin awesome. it trounces dr who my leagues
yeah, love the way he shot up in the air then next minute he's standing with his hands in his pockets wearing a different coat! lol
I kept thinking about Larry... and how convenient his blowing up had been.
i love the swaying tombstone at 3:29
I kept thinking about larry and how inconveiniant his blowing up had been. hi-larious
love how his arm is in a cast, for no particular reason...
"It was a double edged point"
i love 1:44. the karate pose ha ha. awesome show
The sets look like every soap opera set from the 80's and 90's.
"It was a double-edged point."
Mooooveeee asideeeee
"I went for a drive to clear my head, which is why I'm now in the car."
That's the mother, Rick!
'Well that will stop him.'
"You'd best go see to the mother. I had to put a cap in her shoulder."
Imao XD
2:22 'well that'll stop him' lol
I love how, after the shooting/ burning, you can see the tombstone to Rick's right blowing in the wind. Haha.
"It seems as though Dagless was right about burning Renwick, I'm just going to go over there and tell him that!"
"lets just say im windowshopping and theres a half price sale on weird" hahahaah awesome in a bottle
" and deal with the burden of day to day admin" LOL!
