Shocking DNA Results!! What Is My Ethnicity!!! Why Do I Look Asian!

  • I took an ancestry.com DNA test and this is my reaction to finding out my ethnicity. The most common question I get is "What is your ethnicity?" I've been told I look part Asian, part Native American, part Filipino part, Russian and just plain mixed.
I honestly don't think I look a lot like my parent who are clearly just white and I have a very heavy epicanthic fold eye lid (asian eyes). I have no idea where my eyes come from (but I know I'm not adopted).
If anyone has a guess as to why I have asian looking eyes or what you think my ethnicity is I'd love to hear your thoughts. So please comment below!!!
    Ethnicity Results

Hispanic is something cultural of Spain, and in South America there are many white races, Indians, blacks and more ... In Spain white and also there are blondes or redheads with blue eyes. The majority of genes in Spain are of Celtic origin.

Well, only a part of Iberia was Celtic-speaking and Celts mixed with the Indo-European and non-Indo-European natives of Iberia who were settled there since before their arrival.

Yeah, that "an ancestor" is probably the one we consider as the original Turk. Our homeland is Siberia, Altai mountains, mostly Ötüken. And they also migrated to Americas as far as i know. So, it means all the people on the planet carries Turkic dna? I feel confused. Gramps what were you doing exactly at the earlier times? 😵😵😵
Maaan, so, does this make us the connector of the planet? 😱

@ Dank Memer. It's possible that Sami people are part of the Asian ancestry that is the same as Inuit people of northern Canada and Native Americans. These commercial DNA tests only report ancestries that go back 200 - 300 years. The way that migration worked 50,000 years ago, great bands of people either migrated north from Africa into what we now call northern Europe (as the term Europe wasn't even established at that time), and some traveled east into what is now called Asia. Migrating north into north eastern Russia. Some crossing the Bearing strait into N.America and some not crossing the strait but looping around and into the Northern countries of Europe and settling into the Norway, Sweden and Finland about 50,000 years ago. During this time, evolution or mutations took over resulting in blond hair and blue eyes due to the cold climate and lack of sun in the winter months. Diet also plays a major role in this. If you do a calculation of how many ancestries that an individual person would have in the last 500 years, that total would result to roughly a million ancestors based on a 25yr. generation cycle. So these percentages that these DNA tests are presenting are roughly a dozen generations.

My heritage is from Ireland/Scotland and I am in the I-1 haplogroup. Only 10% of Irish have it. Very cool if the Sami people are also in that group!

    • @craigfaber4777
      @craigfaber4777 6 лет назад +33

Yep. Sami ancestry is my thought too. They're an indigenous ethnic minority in Northern Scandinavia, Finland and far northwestern Russia. They have eyes like yours, and broad cheek-bones like yours too. You look like a brown-haired version of Sofia Jannok (a well-known Swedish Sami pop singer).
If you said your ancestry was a mix of Sami and Spanish or Portuguese, that would be totally believable. That would be a really weird ancestry to have in Europe, because Iberia is in the far southwest and Sami country is in the far northeast. So Sami people and people from the Iberian peninsula would almost never have had occasion to meet and marry people from the other region, but that's totally possible in the US because we're so mixed.
I don't know if any of the DNA testing companies break out Sami ancestry separately from Scandinavian ancestry in general. But I doubt it; they're usually not that specific.

Im from Norway.. I think quite alot of "white" norwegians have asian eyes. The Saami norwegians very often have asian eyes. And there was intercultural marriages and relations (especially before the christian invasion). We have been neighbours for thousands of years already. (Swedes can have asian eyes too, but I dont find them as common in Denmark though. So this could maybe be an indicator that the eyes come from Saami heritage, since Denmark is a bit cut off from Lappland. I guess Finnish people also have asian eyes quite often when i think about it). I wonder if Saami is its own group/category in these dna tests.....

Well, at least you can go around and educate some people on how narrow their vision of humanity is. Even the people America likes to consider "white" or European or specific European countries are way more varied than they think. It's interesting that being in America people's first thought would be "you're mixed" because you have all of the world's populations melting basically - but usually partial and specific groups of those populations came to America, so one tends to think *that* is what people from a certain place look like, but it is far from truth. Truth is over the world we're more "blended" in a continuum than "mixed".

Yeah, you could be Saami (Lapplander) from the Scandanavian or you could be Indian- North America. Most tribal councils discourage their members from participating so it's probably hard for you to get a match.
The other interesting note about Iberian, Hugenot etc is that this correlates to marrano or CryptoJew. Many Sephardim were forced to convert to Catholicism around 1492 in Spain. Those who didn't were expelled. Others who pretended to convert but were caught by the Inquisition were killed.
Many marranos settled the Americas including North America. ie many Plantation owners, slave traders and probably artisans were marranos. So you are probably part Jewish, like a lot of Latin Americans.

You should upload your DNA data to My Heritage, MyTrueAncestry, and GedMatch. GedMatch is better for smaller amounts of Native, in my opinion. I know people who have documented Native ancestry, but it does not show up on some DNA databases. If you upload to the sights I mentioned, which is free or nominal fee, you may be able to locate DNA you are looking for. Ancestry is the best for actually finding family, but ethnicity requires multiple tests honestly, as all databases are biased by the customer base. BTW, I am ethnically German and Dutch, but going to school in a Southern town, I was called racist names because of my similar eyes and black hair. Good luck

If her Spanish heritage is derived from Conquistadores then she doubtlessly would have some Native ancestry as well since these Spaniards were warriors and as such did not bring their women or other family members with them. The Conquistadores made sexual use first of Native women and then, later, mestizas and enslaved African women.

you should definitely look at gedmatch b/c ancestry is extremely broad and does not have as diverse of sample groups as gedmatch. on ancestry i came back 98% european, but on gedmatch it's closer to 94% - which doesn't sound like a lot, but the regional percentages are also broken down differently, and the calculators do indicate more tribal/indigeneous matches. so instead of scandinavian, it will say n. sweden/sami, and instead of eastern mediterranean it will say western asia (turkey, azerbaijan, iran, etc.) plus most of these tests cannot tell you what your autosomal dna is past a certain time period / through migrations -- so yes the n. eastern asian people did move west toward n. scandinavia, just as groups from pakistan/iran move west toward turkey and italy.

From what I know I have no (at least close) evidence of me having any Sami in me. The migration routes also don't show any migration to Sweden from North, my ancestors came from the south. I guess it's just how it is and I've heard epicanthic folds came in evolution to protect eyes from light like the sun or snow blindness but I don't really know 🤔 but if that's the case then it wouldn't be weird for some of us from the north to develop epicanthic folds, right? 🤔✋🏼😭

I'd say you have hooded eyes, but you don't have monolids. Only Asians, Oceanic people and some Africans can have monolids. Lots of European people have very hooded eyes while lots of Asian people can have very large double eyelided eyes. What makes a person "look East Asian", actually lies more in the flatness of bone structure, with the biggest indicator being the nose bridge. Lots of East Asians will have very low nose bridges and their eyes won't sink in like they can in other races. That's what really makes them "Look East Asian" and what makes them look youthful. So perhaps it's more about the flatness of your bone structure, than your eyes that are giving that impression of "part (East) Asian".

Despite what you see on this fairly long ago DNA result your communities are very heavily Southeastern USA and together with your Iberian results it strongly suggests at least some native American which is Asian. The algorithm's set up by Ancestry require a fairly high degree of NA to show up in their results. A lot of people with the SE USA colonial mix more than likely have a little Native American ancestry even though you don't see it on this test. Try 23andMe or CRI Genetics and you will see it so it's not really European epicanthic fold it is hidden NA ancestry which is Asian.
