Really great video man. Thank you. You really broke this down from what I feel like any long term fan of the franchise out there could appreciate. This actually made me feel better lol
This the best video I’ve seen on this subject. Got it right for sure I do not think you can draft any of the second or third tier players that you talked about and go into yet another year with a center rotation of Clint and Okongwu. This is the Hawks chance to get that new wave big that’s starting to take over the league and I don’t see how passing on him should even be a thought… that being said, as you mentioned in the first part of the video, Hawks haven’t exactly made great choices aside from Jalen Johnson so getting the first pick just makes me wonder how they gonna f this one up 😂
@@dlee4three11 I could not agree more. Nobody appreciate what Trae has done and continues to bring to this team. That said, I am not afraid to move on from him. While not more talented offensively, I believe that DJ is a better leader of men.
It does concern me that Sarr mostly views himself as a 4, if Sarr either don’t become this 3 level scorer or if he does not learn the dirty details of being a center. He has bust potential.
I think any of these guys would be a good pick. And with 2-5 you can trade down and still get a good pick and someone else. I think everyone is going to be a great fit on offense so the priority should be helping Atlanta on defense and thinking about getting someone who can face Embiid, Giannis, Porzingis in the playoffs. Personally I think trading Sarr down for Clingan and getting someone like Kispert and Kuzma from the Wizards would be a great move.
The Atlanta Hawks will select Alexandre Starr. Not need to overthink it. He can play the 5 or 4. Also, the Atlanta Hawks has another 2024 1st Round Draft Pick and a 2024 2nd Round Draft Pick. With those two additional picks, the Hawks could draft a rookie Point Guard a rookie Power Forward.
Yeah ZR screams Deandre Hunter for me. I would much rather know that Clingan can anchor a defense, get boards and is a great passer for his size. Regardless of who is the pick, hawks are short on forwards and for a draft filled with questions and projections, Clingan is about a sure thing as you can get. Prefer in a trade down but still a great player.
I really really like your intro. BUT you sped through the names of the guys. Si wanted you to slowly start getting into the details of all those picks from 2000. 😊. Ok Your description of Sarr is first class
It’s funny you said that, I had a longer version of the intro i cut down to make the video a bit more concise. There are even more examples of draft misses in the Hawks history. I appreciate the feedback, I’ll definitely keep that in mind.
I love Tyler and he's the ideal modern NAB 4 imo. 6'10, can space the floor (already proven shooter from NBA range), bouncy and athletic in the open court and decent weakside rim protector. He's not the defender Jabari is, especially in space, but I think he's a top 15 prospect in this class honestly.
@@dlee4three11 I'm with you on definitely a lotto talent and not being the same defensive prospect as Jabari but mostly wanted to stress the point that he's so slept on relative to Ron and Matas
Like the video but two things I think you're off on: 1) this draft isn't seen as stacked with great role playing starters, it's viewed as weak because it lacks superstars who would usually be taken top-3 AND other high-floor guys who at worst should be nice starters and might often be taken top-10 as a result. Guy like Sarr only has flashes on offense and you're guessing wildly about whether or not he'll get there, guy like Holland simply can't shoot now and won't be able to play much if he can't. Both might work out but no one would be surprised if they're not starters in 3 years, just more uncertainty about even the project good role players this year. And 2) it's a logical fallacy that every draft has some good to great players in it, there's no reason that this draft has a Giannis or Gobert in it just because the last draft that was weak at the top did. Version of the monte carlo fallacy--you're not 'due' for a good player at some point just because the good players probably aren't coming at the top. This draft might easily have a lotto that flops like 2013 did and a post-lotto like 2015 where the entire 45 post-lotto picks had like 1-2 decent starters in it.
I pointed out other drafts as proof all-star/solid starter level talent exists in every draft, not that this draft has a player the caliber of Giannis and Gobert. I'd argue Castle, Knecht and Clingan are all high-floor prospects who should be lotto picks that can play from day 1. Strewn throughout this draft are a ton of guys I think will complement a lot of teams nicely, whether they're starting or not.
@@dlee4three11 that last part is a better argument than how I interpreted your point . I'll take back the second criticism if your point was based on your evals of individual players and not just on the fact that very draft MUST have some good players just cuz (though your first sentence here seems to stand by that point). I'd still argue that you might be underestimating how unpredictable the draft always is--most of the players who are drafted every year as 'solid starting-level role players' don't become that (or at least not quickly), and some players who aren't seen as likely to become that often do. It's just really really hard to predict translation to the specific NBA game, and it's almost impossible to have any insight into development in like 2.5+ years. In this case I definitely don't think Knecht or Castle are totally fail-proof players who will at minimum be very good rotation players, still think both have at least a 1/3 or so chance of being worse than that. And do you think the Hawks would be happy with the outcome and their use of the asset if their pick was just a solid 7th man? I can respect that if so but it doesn't sound quit right.
I'm not a hawks fan, but I do have an opinion on what might be the best move for the hawks. Honestly, I think Sarr is by far the best player in this draft. The problem is as you suggested he isn't of the caliber to build a winning team around. The hawks already have a decent and experienced team. They have Jalen Johnson and Capela and Okongwu in the post. They have one of the best backcourts that simply has underperformed so far in my opinion. What they need is a lock down wing defender that can act as a connector or glue guy. If I were The Hawks, I would trade the number 1 pick and perhaps hunter to the Pistons for Ausar Thompson, the number 5 pick and players to match up the money. Ausar who played and lived in Atlanta in his OTE days would fit perfectly into the team structure of the Hawks. He and Murray would solidify the defense and Tre can do his offensive thing with support from Murray and Bey.
@@dlee4three11 I still think the best bet was trading the #1 for Ausar Thompson and the #5 pick from Detroit. Probably pick up Cody Williams or Topic as a future backup pg. Taking Risacher seems like a major blunder, but time will tell.
Bro, you're one of the first guys out there I have seen out there hyping up Ron Holland like I feel he deserves. Im a Hawks fan and Sarr is a safe pick but depending on how other organizations view Holland, I really would love them trading back and taking him. Some mock drafts are ridiculous and have him going almost out of the lottery. I don't get it.
agreed although against certain matchups that lineup doesn’t have a strong enough guard defender who can navigate screens and keep up with quicker players
That all depends on how the Spurs evaluate the guards at the top of the draft (Reed, Rob, Topic, Collier) honestly. I think they’re more likely to take one of them
@@dlee4three11 with wemby and Trae I do gonna need to blocker with Trae defense it can be Tim and David all over and can get a PG 13 or Klay Thompson in Free agency go win now while wemby on rookie contract and Pop old the classic spurs way foreign big men
He's my favorite player in the class so I admit some bias but I don't see him being a bust at all. Unreal motor + athleticism + scoring & playmaking upside in a NBA frame
@@dlee4three11 i like his game too and if picked anywhere from 4th-14th he will likely be successful without much immediate pressure. But at 1-3, especially at 1, i think he would be a reach pick and it could stunt his growth as superstar expectations from media and fans would come into play. If hawks dont take alex sarr at 1, or move down a few picks for holland or whoever, Landry fields should be fired
I became a hawks fan in 2015. Team basketball was beautiful until Lebron happened. If it was not for that plumber championship, there is a case that the Atlanta hawks are one of if not the worst ran/operated nba franchises in history.
Of all the drafts in modern history, this might be the safest year to bet on finding a proven superstar over a raw prospect. Couple the #1 pick with Trae Young and there's a lot of possibilities for acquiring a franchise player that open up.
