With the city of Guanajuato!
Is it the most beautiful city in Mexico? You be the judge.
Beautiful colonial architecture, walkable and pedestrian friendly, full of history and culture. Guanajuato is the perfect small city in Central Mexico!

Yes, loved driving in Guanajuato with the tunnels!!! I laugh at the intersection underground where it's says "Uno a uno" and wait for a car to pass before I leap out!!! I asked at the hotel if there's a way in and out of centro without tunnels and they said "Lo siento, Senior". But this town is AMAZING in every way - lots of charm, so I'd love to live there.
There are ways in and out of downtown that do not use tunnels but generally, they are not the most convenient. I wouldn't have tried to explain those ways if I was working at that Hotel. Particularly if you are going into downtown from the southwest of the city (like, from Marfil). One does have to know them though, because some tunnels can close if there is heavy rain.
@@PvsNP Yes, I'm certain their answer was the main streets in and out are through the tunnels, but, yes, the neighorhoods have roads over some hills, but they'd take longer and be harder to explain. We stayed in Centro and spent most of our time in Centro, but I drove in and out using the tunnels often.

I travel in Mexico like you do in my Chevy Suburban that has toured much of Mexico. My dogs often go with me unless I find a family to watch them for some of my trips. When I traveled with three teenagers, we lingered in Guanajuato - it is such a charming city and we loved Centro - hope to stay there longer - it is the real Mexico, too!!!!!

I love the music you put on the video! any who, I love Guanajuato, I am from Mexico "Cuernavaca" and I have been in the US for more than 40 years, the first time I went to Guanajuato was I think in 1973 or so, I was in high school, it was a school excursion and I loved it, we went to see the mummies which back then they were under ground, now they are street level. I was again there just before the pandemic, I went to Leon, Guanajuato for work and stayed there three more days to go and visit the city and of course still beautiful and I agree with you with all the tunnels, haha, I was driving a rental and got lost, eventually I found the exit, but as I venture out more I kind of got it. Enjoy the city!

When I visit this will be on my list of possible places to live! Oh wow..after rewatching your description of the driving and seeing the streets maybe it's not for me. I think I plan on driving wherever I live. So many decisions!
No, don't be discouraged about driving in Guanajuato! I just didn't have time or a good paper map. Once I went in to Centro a couple of times in a taxi I realized it's not very big and would be fine to drive in once I know the lay of the land. And the tunnels.

I've been there 2 times and wish to go back. I live in Mexico City and I like it, but it's huge.
Yeah, I get a little intimidated by cities so large. Guanajuato is small and easily navigable, plus it's beautiful!

@@MoraMargaret we are going to Lake Chapala for 6 months, LOL. I just saw your video about reasons you didn't like the Ajijic area, oh boy... I committed to a 6 month lease for a dog-friendly house that had a yard, seemed like the cheapest way to experience the area and feel like what it would be like to live there. AirBnB's are so expensive there! Everything seems a little expensive there... *sigh* Keep up your videos, we are enjoying them and the information is excellent, especially posting the prices at the end of the video, much appreciated.

We stayed in Marfil, just outside central Guanajuato. Most of the video is in centro, but the airbnb was in Marfil. I don't talk about my costs for individual rentals because I'm an expert negotiator (ha ha) and you need to do your own negotiations. But here is the link:

Hi Mora, Good to see you back again! Great video! I hope you got enough footage to share more of Guanajuato City. You would think there would be some parking lots downtown. As other cities In Mexico have and be able to map a route out to where your renting? I hope your pup is doing better.
Hopefully now with the weather change and elevation it will cool off a bit. I will be driving again to the State of Guanajuato in January with my dog. Love that area. Never thought I would be a person to enjoy high dry desert climate but have learned for me it’s much more tolerable than hot,humid and tropical. Salud 🥂
Me too! And less chance of Dengue. There are parking lots in centro. Don't be discouraged about driving in Guanajuato because of me. After taking a taxi in a couple of times I realized it's not that big, and the tunnels are learnable.
@@MoraMargaret Have you been to San Miguel yet? If you decide to. You can find something not directly in centro for you and the dogs. Quieter and better dog walking. You can be frugal savvy and still really enjoy its beauty. 😉
We are here now! In a colonia close to centro but not in it. Didn't know a huge fiesta was happening today! I love it! But my dogs don't like the fireworks.

La Lejona area. A bit quieter. Probably better rental prices. Larger shopping up the road. Even a Petco I believe 🙂
I’ve had good luck with sending hosts messages about reconsider excepting pets and telling them they can look at my review history with having my pets at other places and it has surprisingly opened more options of places to stay.
So you left Ajijic, congratulations. Is rent cheaper there?
I'm only here temporarily, but from what I see online, yes it's cheaper here.
Haha…we arrived at the bus station and caught a taxi to our hotel in Centro. Even the taxi driver got lost! I had to phone the hotel so he could get directions. It’s a beautiful city, lively and fun at night, but I wouldn’t consider it livable because of the very steep hills.

Yes, though I found this longer term rental on a Facebook group page.
It’s a cool place but geez Soo much more to do in larger cities. DC has some zones that rival NY trendy…

How did you make out with only beginner Spanish?
Well it's not easy to make friends, but I get along just fine and I'm learning more every day. If I really need to be understood and I don't have the words, there are translator apps that are very helpful, and Mexicans have been patient :)
Did you have any issue crossing the border with your car and dogs?
Is it easy to find rentals that accept dogs?
I have found that the Mexican people are more inclusive of dogs in rentals in general. No problems there. Bringing the car and dogs across the border was easy, you just have to be prepared, and get a TIP (temp import permit) as you cross the border. I understand it's much more difficult if your car is financed, but mine is old and paid off :)
Thee most beautiful? I don't know. But the most unique yes, with it's subterranean streets, small alleys and the winding streets. You mentioned not being dog friendly. I have seen many people walking large dogs in the center of town. Although I don't like this but many people let their dogs live on their roof. I think there is a town regulation against this but it isn't enforced. It seems the only recreation these animals get is to bark at people walking by. Guanajuato mi segunda ciudad natal!

It could be done. People live with dogs in cities all over the world. I just don't want them pooping on sidewalks and then I have to pick it up. Somehow it's different (better) picking it up off the ground. And what about real excersize? They need to run, at least sometimes. I didn't know about that regulation. Definitely a beautiful city, but driving there is a nightmare. And it's made even worse by those tunnels.
By the end of our time there I realized it's not very big, so if you lived there I'm sure you could learn the tunnels. So beautiful!
I have to agree with you vis driving in Gjo. Lovely city but I found it a tad claustrophobia inducing and not great for walking.

It’s on my list. I’m just concerned about the hills because I have family members who use scooters or wheelchairs & I don’t want to live somewhere they couldn’t visit me. Is Marfil more walkable? How easy is it to get to centro via taxi?
Super easy for taxi. I'm not sure there are better spots in Marfil for accessibility. There are just so many narrow sidewalks with no ramps etc.. I love Guanajuato but it does have some limitations in this way.
