I don't think I've ever loved a band so much in the '70s and hated as much in the '80s as Scritti Politti. The images in this video are so evocative of a time. Being done without the expectation of much material reward, we were nearly all broke back then. Money just wasn't flushing around like it would become later in the '80s.
Awesome video, great find. The drummer at 0:42 had hair unseen back in 1979 and the guy in the record store at 3:11 his hair and clothes look more like 2019 instead of 1979.
Brilliant! Never heard this but got the Songs to remember album around 1980 and it's been a top 5 for me ever since. This is so from the same era - instant hit for me. Thanks so much for posting 😍
Green's Mum: "you could have tidied up dear before you let the film crew in." Only joking, great find. I was Only about 10 or so when this came out but my older brothers were John Peel fans and exposed me to music like Scritti Politti, Joy Division etc
Apparently those boys' squat had no bathroom. I hope they had regular strip washes in the kitchen sink to keep themselves clean especially if the film crew were comingto see them jam!

Just adding my voice to the others saying I'm so glad there's a video for this I've NEVER seen... Fantastic early Scritti song..
Scritti Politti has always been my favorite.
Where the hell did this come from? It's a most incredible find!
Never in a million years would I expect this footage to exist
WOW.... have owned this record pretty much since it first came out & have never seen this before...
Yep. 2024, same thing.
GENIUSES !!! BACK THEN AND NOW 🪄🪄❤❤👌👌💕💕😍😍☎☎

My God I had such a HUGE crush on Green back then. Not too mention they were such a great band. So different from a lot of the others.
Incredible footage fantastic track off a classic 12 inch Ep
Lovely to see the old Carol Street squat'n'squalor again x
did you live there?
@@chevgr not in their house but a couple of doors up, which was just as grungy 😂
At 3:12 you can see the first Vic Godard album; it didn't come out until 1980.
Same with Raincoats “Odyshape”, which was 1981. Must’ve been made over the course of a couple years.
Syncopated rhythm is off the charts cool.

Fun fact: the house they squatted in had no actual bathroom. It was a legitimate health hazard, and contributed to Green Gartside being hospitalized.
The house is probably worth several million now.
Fantastic
Wow. Memories.
Adore ❤
I don't have this EP anymore, but other tracks are great too, (Confidence, etc.), if you can find them.
Fantastic piece of footage!
This is the Scritti Politti i loved. Not the pop stuff
Absolute, I come to you
Ha! Brilliant Denis - the whole story.

Imagine the smell. The dubious sanitation in the squat was one of the contributing factors to Green's breakdown.
Wow!!!!!
Pure perfection 💘
omg i love this
ufff great
Yes! So, what else exists?
Holy shit!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow!
extra-ordinary
Fuck Yes
Am I listening to two songs at the same time?
Nah. Three
no wonder Green felt out of his depth when entering Miles' place ten years later
貴重な映像が出たな。。。
Absolute
much prefer the early stuff
bought a copy just like featured at the end of the vid
HOLY SHIT
Why does this sound like Split Enz and Sophie Ellis Bextor got drunk and kind of political? In a good way.
The band was pretty fucked up on various pills at this time (and every time, TBH). You can see it in Green's face at 1:09.
Yep. You’d have to be on speed to play guitar like that.
"Capitalism is the most barbaric, of all religions"
"The means of production, the production of meaning"
"Being your own boss means being a boss"
Capitalism is not the problem. Its human greed.
Even socialism has a 1%. in fact, its designed, to protect the 1% from the rest
was everyone isnpired by talking heads this timeline?
...and Joy Division.
Spoiler alert: they sold out and got better and smarter.
wtf is this
Amazing isn't it.
Holy shit!
