Johnny Winter was my first guitar hero. He said in an interview that the only effect he used was a bit of Boss Chorus. I first saw Johnny with Rick Derringer in 1970. They both had a stack of 7 or 8 Fender Twin Reverb amps.
He was a legend!
Johnny in 1970 with Derringer was my first concert ever. It was at Pirate’s World in Dania Bch, FL. They recorded half of the Johnny Winter And Live that night. Definitely a lifetime highlight.
Johnny Winter was my first guitar hero WELL nope I was born 1949 and grew up [n Waco Texas, my first Record was HONKY TONK Bill Black? I was into Portor Wagoner when I was 16 Grandmother oought me a Gibson ES 335 for Birthday. When I heard The Beatles and Rolling Stones I got into Rock then Bob Dylan and Paul Revere etc.
That neck pickup is just so special… Great guitar!
It truly is!
What a fantastic guitar 🎸!!!! When I “kick the bucket” I told my wife to sell all of my gear. Get it into someone else’s hands that will play them. 🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸
Luckily, I have many family members who play. Otherwise, I'd do the same.
Mine are going to my daughters
And then she will find out how much you really paid for them😂😂😂
@@266sopwith told my wife I wanted a strymon big sky. BIG MISTAKE!
You near dead yet ? I need some new gear
Matthew Scott, Matteo Mancuso and Mateus Asato. A holy trinity of three Matthews! My favorite guitarrists of today. Greetings from Rubens Mateus, Brazil!
The Firebird is my favorite electric Gibson, and natural stained wood finishes are the best. What a magical looking guitar! Another great video, Matthew!
They are cool!
he Firebird is what Johnny Winters used, I woked in a Tattoo Studio in Houst0n got to meet Johnny.
I was Tattoo Johnny from Chicago and Racine Wis.
Hi Matthew, that guitar sounds amazing, but what's more important is that as the owner took good care of it, and I can imagine him, being so happy that is played and cared, by such a good player and good person as you seem to be. Take care. Congratulations to you and him.
I remember when we saw the Stones on ed Sullivan and Keef had a Firebird and Bri had a Firebird 😵💫😵💫 as the boys said it’s a killer guitar!! Matthew is the man!! 🎉🎉🎉
🙏🏻
Matthew your playing is always amazing I think you chops are consistently evolving and man
That first couple minutes of your playing were so soulful! Blew me away keep it up
It’s so enjoyable to watch
And the firebird is a keeper
Peace
Thank you very much.
Allen Collins!! Definitely remember him rocking the firebird. Also, we share a birhtday! Great find Matthew! Lets hear it live soon!
That's awesome!
Collins changed to the Explorer as main tool in later years. He also played other brands and models. I guess you already knew this...:)
Awesome find, great tone and playing. Cheers
Fantastic find, and an excellent addition to your arsenal.
New hairstyle looks sick man
I think it looks healthy :)
Are you female?
😫 🤒 😷 🤧 🤢 🤮
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Looks great, but I miss the hair 😊
Its sweet, really nice tone from Gibson and Fender, holds a lot of tonal opportunities, great find Matthew!!!
Thank you!
Receiving notifications that you’ve posted a new video are quickly becoming my favorites! Really diggin that sound, Matt.
It makes me happy to see such a treasure in the hands of someone like you. You work hard at what you do and it shows. Thanks for the video and the sweet audio.
That sounds amazing! The combo of those pickups is awesome 🤩
Great find Matt and great playing kudos 👍👍👍
Matt, please keep this one!!!! Vinyl and cd arrived, love ya. Cheers
Thank you for all of your videos!
They are priceless and the way you share your playing with us is inspiring...I learn so much from watching you...
So happy to hear whatever axe and have some reverb on the amp. can not stand a dry signal unless its for a recording session.
Killer upload and playing! Keep it up!
Was never a huge fan of Firebirds. But this one… Oh Matt, this one is incredible!! The tone, paired with the two vintage Fender amps, blew me away. Your skillful playing helps greatly. Thanks man.
That just reignited my old thurst for a firebird. Man, that's a gorgeous midrange.
great video man. and what a stunning tone you have. .unbelievable!!
Love the fitebird. Great color. Awesome playing as usual.
Wow, you make it sound so good!
All in the curly cord. Seriously awesome guitar practical mods , almost sounds like a strat out of phase in the middle. Nice!
Love this content. Transparent, straight forward, and genuine.
That is one of the most beautiful sounding and looking weapon of a guitar that I’ve seen! Neck pickup is melting
Beautiful guitar. Excellent playing. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds incredible overall, but..oh my gosh, those fuzz tones were the best part of the video Matt, keep rockin' buddy ✌️
What a great find. It's in very good hands.
man that sounds and looks so good... sweet playing too!
The neck pickup sounds incredible, I am genuinely blown away
Cool guitar Matthew, great find.
Thank You for sharing this, love your content.
You played that guitar exactly how it was meant to be played and it sounded great. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for listening!
Bro your videos never disappoint! Your knowledge of guitar, and its history, combined with your video making and guitar skills is awesome! Also had to add your music onto my Spotify playlist! Keep it up! 🎸🔥
the pickup mix sounds amazing!! Better than normal les pauls, SGs, etc. Awesome playing!
Great score Bro. Amazing sound and great playing. This guitar alongside your renovated barnfind, tone heaven right there. Cheers for posting enjoy from UK :)
absolutely amazing find, great vid and playing as usual, love your channel
absolutely killer, nice playing too buddy. Love it
The first neck tone you played is such a tasty sound! Thanks for sharing as always!
Awesome find! And, great you got the original parts that were swapped out.
I like it more than I would have expected. Almost a strat single coil clarity to it with a kind of SG bark
Exactly!👍🏻
Yes I have a Firebird1, it sounds like a super telecaster!!
@@grahambell4310 yeah ok I was more in the good strat middle pickup mindset during the first half at least
Good to see you back young Matthew.
I'm back👍🏻
Pretty good sounding w/ plenty of that mojo drippin Firebird vibe. Adding another solid old Gibson w/ a beautifully checked finish in a unique color scheme to your collection. Priceless find.
That's right👍🏻
I’ve been waiting so long for this video! Thank you so muuuch!
Always enjoy the journey you take us on with your vintage discoveries. 😎👊🎸
Hi Matthew, it's always a pleasure to listen to you👏
Thanks for sharing these great instruments with us! Killer axe! Been addicted to your album as well, it’s fantastic! The riff on Cold Blooded Story is wicked! Keep this stuff coming man!
Man that means so much to me man. Thank you for watching and saying that about Cold Blooded! 🤟🏻
beautiful instrument, beautiful sounding pickups. love that middle position out of phase thing. tasty playing too!
So glad you’re releasing music! I could listen to your playing all day. :)
Sounds great! Congratulations!
Killer video Matthew! Great guitar and playing!
Always happy to see you get good guitars. Keep up the good work.
Great find. Neck and bridge both sound great.
I have one of these with slight variations which came into the UK in the mid 1970s. My '64 or possibly a 1965 has the headstock pointing the opposite direction so the tooling was for the next edition. The guitar was purchased from Frank Lucido when the UK bands visited California, My guitar came via this method. Another excellent little film Matthew.
What a wonderful find. Good for you , it's a beautiful guitar ,love that sustaine.
Great playing & those amps sound killer !!!
Sounds awesome man, really enjoy your playing.
Nice find! Sounds awesome.
Young man...your playing is inspiring. Yours is aname that we will hear. Is that bridge pickup perhaps an original PAF? Thst guitar is smokin! Thank you!
Man does that humbucker ever sound awesome in that guitar and out of those speakers. Awesome stuff Matt , love your touch.
Ahhh, very nice and flavorful playing! The guitar is a beauty, and as always I can appreciate the nice setup and tuning. I could not afford to buy one of these (10-12K) and so bought a new Epiphone - which plays and sounds very nice indeed. Johnny!!!!
this is the best ive heard you play in a while. I can feel the passion. loving this
What a nice find, I can't believe it still has all the original parts. Wow
Definitely not all original. Still a keeper though.
@@guitarzan2626 It has all of the original parts in the box.
@guitarzan2626
But all the parts swapped out were in the box. So the 'it' that he purchased still contains all the original parts.
@@guitarzan2626 the original parts are in the box, I never said they were on the guitar.
@@rmac4411 ok
mega tone and playing. the way you record these sounds is amazing too. i'd love to see a video where you test cheap modern guitars with these brilliant amps and also where you test these amazing old axes with some very basic modern amplifiers. all your stuff sounds amazing and i wanna know how much of that comes from the pick-ups, how much from the amps, how big is the "old" factor... if you know what i mean. needless to say your fingers are doing a wonderful job here but i'd love to see what a squier classic vibe, for instance, sounds like through your amps.
out of all guitar playing on RUclips, yours is truly the most captivating one for my ears
love your channel man, rock on!
🤘🏻
oh man that middle position out of faze what dreams are made of ,, the previous owner certainly new what tone he was after ,, great great score
that neck pickup is amazing man, so much clarity! usually im a bridge pickup guy but i prefer the neck on this to the bridge
I just got a Partscaster Tele that was pretty sticky and dirty...cleaned it up, adjusted bridge, a little fret work and it is is amazing!.... Thanks Matthew, get your pen ready , I just bought your signed CD ;)
Really nice guitar - I like the mods. I especially like the both/out of phase sound.
Sweet find! Makin it sing as always👍 That bridge pickup sounds just like Daniel Lanois’ tone. Nice!!
You are right, it might be the best sounding Gibson ever - and I’m saying this as an owner of a P90 Special. But this one just sounds phenomenal. Wonder how the original PU would sound in the bridge… Great find!
Man what a tone ❤ stellar playing bro !
Your guitar collection is so cool. I'm surprised you haven't started a new ice age 🤘🔥
The Firebirds are probably the most stylish feminine guitars ever produced. I have a reverse and non-reverse. They are both incredible testimonials to the "golden years" of Gibson. Stunning looks and sounds! Great looks, great sounds, great player. Matthew, you are so reminiscent of Peter Green. Thank you for being here for us.
Awesome guitar. Thanks for telling its story and sharing with us.
DAMN! She sounds AMAZING! Great find! Congrats, man!
Beautiful axe...played beautifully. Especially starting around 15:20, channeling Clapton in a raucous rendition of Spoonful.
Beautiful guitar, they are becoming one of the most sought after vintage guitars. Impossible to find and the prices are skyrocketing
True, a red one like this sold for 60 k! It was all original. So few built in custom colors. Try finding a custom color firebird VII with gold hardware.. holy grail
Hard to find yes!
Bravo Matthew… nice sound and guitar… thanks for the video.
Absolutely amazing playing my dude
I had a firebird 5 in cherry with vibrato, it also had a bucker in the bridge. Headstock wound as well. It was a wonderful instrument.
Great jam at the end of the video.
Your amp tones are phenomenal. Really makes your guitars sing.
You sir have the best fuzz sound on RUclips and further! Talent! Fuzz all the way with my mighty jazz master p90s through my vox ac30....
Neck pickup sounds unreal! Awesome!
Another A-Mazing find! I don't know how you do this, consistently!
Great guitar. Wishing you continued success!
That fuzz outro was phenomenal! You should pull the bridge pickup and see when it's from.
I'm pretty much always about the practicality of vintage and reissue-type Fenders but I can never resist admiring vintage Gibson Firebird guitars and Thunderbird basses from afar. The tuners on the guitar are cool as hell looking despite the weight/neck dive penalty. The shape of the case gives away what's inside immediately.
Very nice. Great guitar, amazing tone, tasteful playing. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
That guitar sounds great . Great playing.
Crazy to see you with short hair. Going to take some getting used to, but its a really good look on you. What an awesome guitar! Would love to hear some of its clean tones, but it rocks out solid for sure, which is what these were made to do.
Thanks for sharing your amazing hands-on guitar journey. To see someone who is collector, technician AND player really bring these old birds back to the fold is such a rare pleasure.
Hey Mathew,
What's good man? Thank you for educating me on amps and guitars. As a non player I am learning a ton from your videos man. Really enjoy the way you present the equipment and instruments. Very helpful for us non-players. I also wanted to tell you I gave your album a good listen on Spotify (I try to listen to an album 3 times before I decide anything about my feelings towards the music. Some very good stuff happening man. It is said that it takes 10,000 hours of doing a skill to master it and from what I heard you are well on your way man.
I have no idea how anyone plays and sings at the same time so congratulations on that. Are you the song writer as well or do you collaborate with others or is it a mixture of both? Congratulations on everything and keep on running towards your dreams!
Cheers,
Pete St. John
Clovis, CA
Boomer fan here. That neck pickup sound seems soooo familiar from the late sixties. I have no idea what bands or guitarists might have used this particular instrument but, boy does your playing a few chords and notes bring back a viseral feeling from my youth !!
A top review of a top guitar. So nice to get away from all the LP hype for a short while. Great playing as always. Many thanks for all your effort.
Great video and the guitar looks and sounds fanrtastic. Had a late 70's one in the mid 80's... Never stayed in tune and was always neck diving. My brother had a mid 70's Thunderbird Bass atthe same time and we played in the same band and looked like a pair of Turkeys no doubt... Sold mine Brother still has his. Love the channel.
