- The Bren light machine gun is one of the most iconic and recognizable firearms from World War II. Feeding from a top-loading magazine, this unique design served the British Empire for several decades.
When a Historic Arms Bren Mark II arrived at the Guns.com warehouse, I could hardly contain my excitement. Let’s explore the history of this novel firearm before I tell you about my range time with it.
The long service of the Bren proved the design concept was sound
There’s a reason this gun isn’t remembered fondly. It’s B.R,E.N! Barely Rapid, Empty Now!
On June 6th 1940 just after Dunkirk, the number of Bren guns in UK stocks was 14,023 not 2,500
Learned to appreciate this weapon when it was on a episode of R. Lee Ermey's "Mail Call" when they compared the Bren with the BAR. Nice weapon!
Nice. I am jealous of you owning one even if it is only semi auto. They were manufactured here in Australia in WW2 at Small Arms Factory Lithgow and were found to be very reliable both in the Nth African Desert and the Jungles to our North. Gravity assisted the magazine and also dirt falling down through the ejection port. Rim-lock is caused by the person filling the mag not the weapon.
The tracked vehicle you show was none as a Bren Carrier.
Cheers from down under and have fun.
Thanks for the comment Baobo67.
Thank you 🙏 my grandfather used to carry one in the war. I loved this video he would say it was heavy but I never realized how heavy it really was! Thank you for putting so much in context.

Just saying
Goofy design.
Japanese and French had similar designs. It was popular.
not really, allows the gun to be closer to the ground, great for when you are in a trench or are behind a bump/incline
Blew the BAR into the weeds .
