Eric, I'm not affiliated with your marketing team, but... since I started your Truefire class I've really started to see the instrument in a different way. Chords first and then find the scales, modes, licks and tricks around those shapes. Really helped tie all the positions together and really in a very simple way. Still working through the material but very cool approach. Thanks friend! Gus
Agreed! Before the course dropped I had gotten into this way of looking at the fretboard from Eric’s and a couple other tubers that share that philosophy. The biggest thing for me was associating the chords with pentatonics. So the course was great timing as it just solidified the journey I was on 🤘
@@EricHaugenGuitar Have you done a thing on 10th's as yet? I use them constantly as musical shorthand to un-clutter the midrange in a band or ensemble setting. 10th's are an excellent visual and ear training tool as well that simplifies things in a hurry. You can always add more chord/scale tones to them, so great for chord spelling as well.
Dude, good stuff! A bunch to unpack, but that 6th to flat 3rd move is an easy takeaway from this lesson that I want to put in my kit. Tasty, tasty. My first experience recognizing that Blues players mix minor and major pentatonic was when I transcribed Bonnie Raitt's cover of "Love Me Like a Man". I knew it was done, but working on that transcription brought it home.
In addition to the pursuit of the Ribot skronky sound I’ve been wrapping my mind and fingers around harmonic minor lately so would be a very much appreciated idea you mentioned there. Thanks for this utterly tasty lesson. Have a great day Eric.
Nice guitar! My main gigging guitar for 20 years has been a ‘73 Tele w the same stock “fender” Bigsby. Except rosewood fingerboard. Bought it on a road trip to New Orleans!
Thanks, these are great licks Eric. By the way, I started your CAGED course a couple of weeks ago. It's already helping me to fill in gaps and make connections that I've been missing for years. Thanks man!
Put a slow G, F, C progression into the looper... and rub G major against G minor. The most unexpected thing was how i was suddenly incorporating MUSICAL BENDS into lines, where as before i knew bend licks. Slinky. Thank you Eric!
Oh, yeah, meant to add that Friday night is pizza night in our home, and I watched this just a few hours after the family enjoyed our traditional Friday supper. Perfect.
Would love to see you do a lesson on Lenny by SRV or at least post a cover it, Seems like he mixes the scales quite a bit in that song. Thanks so much for the content. You have helped my playing tremendously
Its a great mic, but mixes bad on 8"'s maybe try it more to the center and in the middle. i just got hung up on that it dont do the amp justice in the lowend. Great video as always !
Hi. Nice lesson. Thanks for the hard work. How’re you digging the Vox? I have the exact same amp, and mostly use my Bootstrap Pickups’ Extra Crispy equipped MIJ (standard bridge) 50s / Blackguard Tele with it. Sounds great. Peace & all that, Dean
Hey Eric, Is that bridge surface mounted? My main guitar is a telecaster 52 replica, but I wanna learn surf guitar so I need a tremolo. Do you recommend that bridge? Stays in tune?
Not proud of following the crowd here, but I really want to Will Smith smack the hot licks away 🤣😂 However, I’ll take these tasty chill licks all day 🍕 🤘🍕🤘
whoa, thats wild. I'm guessing they are little busy! I would never want the celeb thing. Being scrutinized for everything you do. I've got a temper and tend to lash out before I think. Yeah! It’s so much easier to remember everything if we go chords first!

The slide from the minor 3rd to a major 3rd then the octave in A is killer 👍
It's amazing how much one chromatic color tone can change the feel of everything!
@@EricHaugenGuitar to my ear it's also having the 3rd in a lower register than the root note
Love these tasty major/minor licks, they are such a key part of playing pop, rock and blues.
Wow this video really enriched my usual pentatonic minor lick arsenal

(Takes a moment to reflect on what a badass Bonnie Raitt is.)
Hangin’ with Eric here, on Patreon, on Truefire…always an excellent choice.
Beautiful and elegant, as always. Thanks, Eric!

Stay tuned for next Friday!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Always! Looking forward to it.
Your true fire course has been the number 1 thing to help me improve that iv come across!! Thankyou.
Yay! That makes me so happy to hear!

Dude, that hendrix lick is killer
Forever the GOAT!
Good stuff. Will be purchasing your TrueFire course in the next few days, looking forward to it. Have a great rest of the weekend!
Yay! You’ll see - it really ties everything together!

Yay! Yeah that classic G F C change would be prefect for this kind of crossover
Oh, yeah, meant to add that Friday night is pizza night in our home, and I watched this just a few hours after the family enjoyed our traditional Friday supper. Perfect.
Ha! I’m influencing your whole family now! 🍕🍕🍕🍕
Yes, your nice loose and gentle demeanor is easy to follow. I promise I'll stop calling you the Bob Ross of UT guitar 😁
I don’t mind at all!
This always makes my Friday ✌️😌🎸

Look up Ross Campbell.
This was a wonderful stereo experience
Haugenaughts Go!
Thank you, Eric 🙏
Appreciate the lesson and the tasty licks.
Be good to you
Thanks Scott! I try!
@@EricHaugenGuitar - as Master Yoda says: "There is no try. Do, or do not." 😂🍕
Thanks, Eric.
Hendrix is, indeed, forever the greatest. Thanks for that mad Little Miss Lover trick. More Jimi licks please senor.
Ooooh I’ve got a whole playlist of Hendrix-y lessons! Him, Marc Ribot, and Dave Rawlings are my big 3
Its a great mic, but mixes bad on 8"'s maybe try it more to the center and in the middle. i just got hung up on that it dont do the amp justice in the lowend.
Great video as always !
Also…that gospel thingy you mentioned…made me think of AC/DC’s Gone Shootin’…
Thank you Eric!
Tasty playing, love you channel
Excellent!
Damn it, Haugen! Absolutely tasty!
I'd love a showcase of major into a minor tune. Great video, thank you
Interestingly enough - it doesn’t often work that way!
Very Grant Green-esque! Great ;)
Sounds awesome! Thank you! You have a link for the jacket🙂
Levis outlet ftw
I can't wait to put down the coffee mug and pick up the guitar and pdf for this one! Well, I can wait. Coffee is important.
Yes! Coffee is LIFE
Dickie Betts was also famous for Minor/Major licks
Such a great phraser - he always lands everything just right!
thanks!
As always, great video, Eric! And I ate pizza today woohoo!
good stuff

I love that lil vox! So easy to dial in!
Makes so much sense...2nd nature😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
You don’t use that cool Gretsch any more, did you sell it? I fell in love with it 🎸 💔
I had to sell it when I moved - needed the money for furniture!
Eric, great lesson. Are you getting more into the dead/Garcia?
Naw! Still like Europe live 72 though!
Is that an AC4 Handwired? I didn’t think of myself as a “Vox guy” but that thing sounds sweet.
Yeah! There’s a specific sting to the high end on voxes that’s very unique!
best april fools prank yet
Hey Eric, Is that bridge surface mounted? My main guitar is a telecaster 52 replica, but I wanna learn surf guitar so I need a tremolo. Do you recommend that bridge? Stays in tune?
Yeah it’s factory! The key is the very pricey mastery bridge - that really holds it all together
You're about chords, so what progressions are good for this crossover? I can do the crossover but always get stuck by progressions.
Any standard blues, country, or southern rock would definitely fit the bill!
G - F - C - C -
Great lesson, that tele looks heavy. Eat 🍕
It’s a BRICK!
But it’s also my favorite
Wherever he goes the people all complain
that's a cold house to wear a hat indoors
Well hello, Bill Frisell!
I wish!
“That’s a fart.” @2:37
Oh yeah I noticed that when editing 😂
